alternative_couple
I am trying to research and find a really good HT doctor for my partner. It is a bit different situation as she is male to female transgender and in the process of transitioning. She is 24 and has a fair amount of hair loss, mostly frontal left and right of the center of the forehead though she is beginning to see some thinning on top. We live in North Central Florida and are considering the following doctors: Dr. Griffin in Atlanta Dr. Charles in Boca Dr. Rose in Tampa I have checked the archives and it seems that all of them have a fairly good reputation but would like to hear from people who have had transplants done by any of these physicians that are far enough out from surgery to judge how successful the procedure was. She will need them to lower her hairline in order to make her hairline look more female and will likely need multiple procedures to accomplish this so we would like to start with an outstanding physician to begin with. Thanks in advance for your input. Sandy

Guest wanthairs
the doc I used, Dr. Jeffrey Epstein of Miami specifically has examples of transgender hair restoration. I suggest you give him a call too....
Senior Member Dewayne Posted September 4, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted September 4, 2008 I agree with Wanthairs; as Epstein has posted some examples of cases that are outside of the mainstream so to speak. But, for all I know Griffin, Rose and Charles have done the same. Judging from the 'unusual' cases Epstein has posted on here, I'd bet he has done just what you are describing.... You might search his name and see some examples from him. 100? Senior Member Dr. Ricardo Mejia Posted September 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted September 13, 2008 I would caution you and advise you to research patterns of hair loss especially in a 24 year old transgender patient before considering hair transplantation. YOu need to think about what your partners hair may be like at 34 and 44 years of age. My experience with transgender patients is a desire to lower the hairline as you suggested but also maintain excellent density for different hairstyles. For a woman with thin hair, this is not always possible. See video below. At 24 , if your partner has a good family history of male pattern baldness and she is destined to be a norwood 6, she may not be too content as a woman with the density obtained having lowered the hairline to a female pattern. Maybe in the short term, but not long term. THis increases the surface are to transplant considerably and reduces the density overall. I have advised some transgender patients against hair transplantation where the expectations and density did not match over time. It is no surprise they were much happier in a hair system that could give them the hair density in a female pattern a transplant could not. The example below is a video of a woman with thinning hair that used to wear a wig and how transplants helped her. female hair thinning video However, at her age, your partner may not have as much hair as she did to begin with. Keep these things in mind as you consider your options for her.
