telogen effluvium post transplant

Hi! last month got the transplant, 1000 hairs. i wasn't 'bald' yet, and most hardly new i was thinning. my surgeon here in chicago did a great job. unfortunately, about 3 weeks after the surgery, all the hair in about a 2" strip around my suture line fell out (no this is not "shock" fall out, this was normal healthy hair on the back of my head). my doctor told me that it is a very rare but possible effect of the surgery, and should eventually spontaneously resolve. it is however, rather hard to cover up. most people think they shaved across my head for the surgery, so that is what i tell them. anyone else out there dealt with this? how long to recover? i will keep all updated. remember kids, it might be "minor surgery" but it's still surgery - stuff happens.

How was your shedding in the Transplanted Area

Had my HT a month ago and having the same shock loss problem, but only in one spot along the suture line. There is one section, about 1 1/2 inches long, where hair has fallen out below the suture line down to almost the top of the ear. Quite noticable. It is also the only location along the suture line that is still red, painful and itchy. The rest of the suture line is almost invisible and perfect.

 

With the exception of this one area, I have regained almost all sensation in the scalp which is a great relief. But this one area is causing me fits.

sorry it took so long to get back to everyone. dr. pomeranz in chicago did my transplant, i would like to make clear that my problem was not caused by any fault of his, i am very happy with his work. i also want to reiterate that this has nothing to do with so called "shock fallout", that my condition involved healthy growing hair. it is a rare condition that can be caused by any body stress, including psychological stress. it has also occurred in post pregnancy. walking around with no hair on the back of my head for months wasn't much fun, but everything i read told me that it is almost always temporary. well i am happy to report that i am almost completely healed, i have a very small area that still has not completely filled in, but it is hidden under the regrowth and is not noticeable. best of luck to you all.
