  1. Hello again, Thought I would share after my last post in September 2007. I had my consultation with Dr. Russel Knudson and he recommended around 2500 grafts for hair line through to mid scalp. He classified me as 5a which mortified me! He prescribed Proscar 5mg to be taken quarterly on a daily basis and said my crown may be able to have some regrowth. I normally have a buzz #1 but have been growing my hair over the last 5 weeks to access any growth. Very happy with the results so far ( see attached pics ). Dr. Knudson said forget the front hair as it is lost forever! He was right, no regrowth. Decision time - probably wait another 4-6 months for any further crown regrowth, then decide on a surgeon. Have been looking at Martinick/ Knudson/ Hasson-Wong/ Shapiro/ Farjo Any advice?
  2. Sorry folks, I know I am new here, but please... does anyone do anything for nothing? I recently saw a HT Doctor and he does charge a small consultation fee. HT doctors must spend a lot of their valuable time with lots of potential patients who do not proceed with surgery, who is paying for their time? Information is knowledge; if I was getting it for free I would be very sceptical and weary as to a sales strategy. Again sorry, but not the answer I really wanted to hear. I found it reassuring that the doctor I saw had a value on his time regardless of if I was a potential client and a sale. I may be looking at this the wrong way? Please educate me........ Anyway, not happy as after growing my hair for the last 5 weeks in an attempt to access my condition as I believed I was NW4, Doc says 5a. Started on Proscar quarters as crown may be salvageable, but not holding my breath. So for now monitor stabilisation and possible re-growth and carry on looking for the right surgeon.
  3. More questions.... What is the average cost of a consultation with a HT doctor? Most of the websites I have visited give you a price per graft estimate and advise that the cost of your initial consultation may be recoverable if you have medical insurance. I have spoken to two HT consultants (in Australia) and it was never mentioned. Obviously my fault for not asking but when you are considering spending a small fortune on HT it feels quite silly to ask at the beginning how much their time is worth for a 30/45 minute appointment...... Thanks Conny

  5. Thanks for that, The surgeon you mention is Dr. Russell Knudsen, I have only read very good reports on his work and his costs per FU are less than Dr, Jennifer Martinick. Past president of ISHRS - if that is worth anything? Tried ringing all the contact numbers in his website but only got answer machine, sent on line consultation form and still waiting on reply. Let me know how you get on with him
  6. Hello all, Excellent forum, my knowledge on HT has improved vastly over the last few months. I am currently trying to make my mind up on going for HT. Typical MPB starting at 17, had enough of the torture by 26 so decided on the #1 cut. I have not cut my hair for the last month in an attempt to evaluate how much hair I have lost over the last 7 years. My problem - Been in New Zealand I believe my nearest quality surgeons are over in Australia. I have contacted Dr Barry White via e-mail and received a very generic "over sees" response, also read some bad postings on his work. Not contacted Dr Ray Woods as too expensive although heard good results using FUE. I am still waiting on a reply from Dr. Russell Knudsen. Dr Jennifer Martinick and her staff have been very helpful and proactive. She has reviewed several of my pictures and she believes I will require 1500 grafts to restore my hair line and 500 grafts to the vertex. She also advised I see my doctor regarding meds. The next step? - I think it would be wise to actually see an HT patient? Do I look at collation Dr's and the added expense of travelling further? Any advice would be very welcome Thanks
