  1. Dude, just tell your bosses. In the grand scheme of things, who cares? I told my bosses and any coworker who asked. I found it to be liberating and then you don't have to worry about it. Just tell your bosses you're losing your hair (which they probably already know) and you want to do something about it because it bothers you. Don't plan on looking normal for a while after the surgery. I'm almost five months out and I just started going in public, including work, without a hat. I had severe shock loss and hopefully you won't but don't expect to look normal in a few weeks or even a month or two. If you wear a rug, chances are they'll notice. I think you should just level with them. Good luck.
  2. Hey Mr. G. First off, seriously consider if you even want to have a surgery. Once the donor scar is there, it's not going away. This surgery is not a cake walk like they've told you. After a hair transplant surgery, you go through an awkward period while your body repairs itself. If after serious consideration, you decide to go ahead with a surgery, I would not recommend going to Bosley. I did and regret it. Like others have said, there are probably some good surgeons at Bosley. However, why not choose a surgeon that has a proven/verifiable track record documented by independant sources. Take a look at the docs on this site. In my opinion, your chances of success will be much greater and you will spend the same or less on the surgery. Good luck!
  3. mrkneed, another possibility is you may have had an anxiety attack. They have many of the symptoms you described. I used to get them from time to time when I was a kid. Your heart would race, your blood pressure would drop, perspiration would increase. One of the last ones I ever had was when I had my first transplant done at Bosley in 96. They were removing the donor strip and a full blown anxiety attack kicked in. Dr Smith got pissed at me, gave me some medication and then continued the strip removal a few minutes later without incident. My 2nd procedure was with Dr. Wong and although it took him longer to remove the strip, I had no problems. Prior to your next surgery, explain the situation to your Dr. Ask for a valium or similar drug and talk yourself through it mentally. You've done it before. It doesn't last very long and it's not a big deal. Good luck!
  4. It's been four months since I've had my surgery. I experienced heavy shockloss and I'm encouraged because the shockloss hair is starting to return. I had my hair cut about a week ago to a 6 clipper setting. I can't tell if the transplanted hair is coming in but I'm hoping it does soon and I'm really looking forward to ditching my newly acquired hat collection.

  6. I do want to get rid from any kind of hair loss problems. I know I'm being presumptious but I think I'm speaking for the entire community when I say; Dorothy, I am be very pleased and thanking you for gloriously helping us with our hair loss problems. Thanks again and please respond to my e-mail as quickly as possible. I've included my social security number and a credit card number so you can rush deliver all of your wonderful products. Thank you. Come again!
  7. I'm 3 months out and have had a tremendous amount of shock loss. The majority of the loss occured on the hairline, top and crown. However, I did have some shock loss above my left ear around the donor strip. The shock loss in the donor area wasn't as drastic as the shock loss in the recipient area. As I understand it, the shock loss hairs should come back unless they were already weakened to the point where they were going to fall out and not return anyway. In that case, the hairs would be very thin and probably have very little pigment or color. Since your Dr. placed hairs in your donor area to cover scars, you may have had normal shock loss in this area. All I can say is, it's supposed to come back. Hopefully it does for both of us. Best of luck.
  8. The massive shock loss seems to be returning slowly or this may be wishful thinking. I had substantial but less shock loss in the hairline area. I don't know if this has to do with smaller graft sizes. I'll wait it out and hope for the best. Well, what other option is there? I was never much of a hat guy but I have come to loathe them. I have added 2000mg of MSM and Nizoral 3 times per week to my regimin.

  10. Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure the shock loss will come back but it's unsetteling to see it go. Stratman, I don't have any pics from when my head was shaved. I had my camera with me on surgery day and I should have taken a few. bummer. I went to the bathroom after the shave job and prior to the strip removal and checked it out. It wasn't thick by any means but there was still a decent amount of hair on top. Like everyone says and I couldn't agree more, Dr. Wong and his staff are top notch. Compared to my experience at Bosley it was a night and day difference. I'll keep my web log updated on a monthly basis. One thing I didn't mention or show pictures of is my donor scar. I looked at it yesterday and was really impressed. It's slightly pink but looks really good. I did have some shock loss from the donor strip on the left side of my head.
  11. Thanks for the encouragement. I've been wearing a hat to work since I returned from the procedure. I never wore hats before. So, I've gotten a few questions. Whenever I'm asked, I tell the person I had hair transplant surgery and I'll be happy to answer any questions they may have. I've ended up explaining the procedure in detail to a few people. I figure if I don't act like it's a big deal, they won't either and it's worked pretty well.
  12. I had my procedure done with Dr. Wong at the end of January, 2008. Dr. Wong and his staff were great. They made you feel like you weren't just another number and understood how big of a deal it is for the patient. This is pretty amazing considering Dr. Wong and his staff do approximately 400 procedures per year. Now for the bad part: I have experienced a lot of shock loss and this bothers me. I'm so sick of wearing a hat all the time. With my pre surgery coverage, I figured I would have been able to ditch the hat by now. It looks like the shock loss will make that goal unrealistic for a few more months. In the end, I won't care as long as the hair comes back. If it doesn't, I think I'll have improvement along the hairline but will disappointed overall with the procedure. Maybe I should just shut up and wait a few more months before rendering any opinions. I wanted to thank the site and community for all of the knowledge I've gained from you. I really appreciate it.

  14. Hey guys. Thanks for the quick responses. Yes, I take propecia and have been for years. The hairs didn't look like they were on the decline. Like I said, I'll get my weblog set up later this week or over the weekend. Here's a before pic. As you can see, my hair wasn't thick but I had decent coverage. I know it's very premature to be too concerned but seeing shiny skin with no fuzz at all in some areas is disconcerting.
  15. I'm 7 1/2 weeks out from my 2933 graft procedure. I'm experiencing massive shock loss in the recipient area and mild shock loss on one side of the donor area. I had pretty decent coverage on top and my existing hair seemed healthy. I have to say I'm fairly concerned. If the shock loss on top doesn't come back, I'll be worse off than before the procedure. I have photos and will take my 2 month pics later this week. I'll get my weblog set up and then I would appreciate some feedback. I've read several posts stating shock loss doesn't always return. I had enough hair pre transplant I figured I would have been able to ditch the hat by now. I'm not even close. I have some serious kojak areas.

  17. I have been on propecia since it came on the market. I just got my doctor to prescribe proscar. Propecia is 1mg and proscar is 5mg. Why are the pills roughly the same size?? I'm getting my proscar from Costco. So, I know they're legit. I'm going to crush the proscar and separate it into 5ths but it's weird that the proscar isn't much larger than the propecia. Any ideas?
