  1. I am now in the market for a 2nd session to fix the hairline and add density to my MHR HT from Feb 07. I have had a good response to the new hair from session one, and feel more confident about my looks. Overall a good experience. Now the thought of buzzing my head for the operation (I am in sales) is starting to freak me out. I visited Dr True and he recommended about 1700 grafts to fill in density and said he can fix my hairline and donor scar without shaving my head. I have not yet scheduled.

I am curious about what kind of repair can be done. MHR gave me very mild 'cobblestoning' and I am wondering if that can be fixed.

Also, I had no shock loss in follicles adjacent to the surgery area last time. Are my transplanted hairs in jeopardy for shock loss now?

I guess I am gonna need some support going forward, so I am glad the forum is here! It has been great to come back and start to read you all again after being away.

  2. Gents,

I recently had a meeting with a surgeon from this coalition for a second procedure, with whose work I am impressed. After the evaluation of my condition, he sort of casually asked whether I had thought about laser therapy when I mentioned my adverse reaction to finasteride. I said no, and that I was not interested because I had never seen any proof that it did anything but grow wings on your money... He dropped the subject, but I was sort of surprised he mentioned it.

  3. I know I'm late getting on board here, but about a year into taking first Propecia, then Finpecia to save money, I started having breast tenderness and pain, tho no swelling or overt change. I reduced to half the prescribed dose, .5mg. Still the problem. Went to .5mg every other day, same problem. I stopped for a couple weeks, problem goes away. I resume, and after a couple of days, symptoms are back. What fraction of a pill is .02? I am willing to try, because the stuff really STOPPED my hair loss. Also, could it be the generic? If anyone can answer, Thanks! I have considered the possibility of the power of suggestion...

  4. Hi Tuscansun,

They will provide you with the generic 'Finpecia' for 100 tabs for $77. I have seen it for less, but that's what I am currently using. Same drug, but without the US pharmaceutical company mark-ups. It works just fine. I have been on it for about 8 months and my shedding stopped quickly. I did need a prescription to get the drug, and I assume they verified it, as they are a legitimate business. Good Luck!

  5. Jsmith,

Did you consider going after them for the quality issue? Get your money back? The Bastards? icon_mad.gif

I am looking forward to meeting with a coalition Doc, But I am NOT looking forward to getting cut up again. Have you had a consultation with a new guy yet?

  6. Hey Max

I think it's starting to look OK. I think with a second procedure it'll be great, since a REAL surgeon will be able to give the density needed to make it work. In certain light, it works, and since I am tall, most people are looking front or side on.

I am beside myself I am so pissed off about this. Does MHR give refunds? I'll need the money for repairs!

  7. You remember correctly. Well guys, there you have it. One more example of the fine craftsmanship available at MHR!

Do you think an autobody shop might be able to do anything with a fine grit paper?

  8. Friends,

This is going to sound obsessive, but when the light is from overhead and my scalp is shiny, at the base of every FU is a bump, small as a dull pencil point and I am probably the only one who will notice. They were not there until about month 5 and I am almost at 9 months. I know I need to go to about 16 months for my procedure to fully grow in and mature, but is this a common symptom? Any experience with this?

    Thanks,

    Ringo

  10. I got my last prescription of finasteride from a Canadian online pharmacy for $125.79 for 100 1 mg tablets. The medicine is called Finpecia and it is made in India by Cipla Pharmaceuticals. It is the same stuff as Propecia.

According to Bill from this site in response to my question about Finpecia:

    Thank you for your inquiry,

Yes, generic finasteride is just as effective as Propecia however, I am often skeptical of many online pharmaceutical companies. Just be sure that you are buying from a legitimate source - which will involved research on your part. www.hairlosstalk.com is a reputable source to buy generics however, I know there are other places that offer it cheaper. I cannot guarantee however, the legitimacy of these other places. Yes, generic finasteride is just as effective as Propecia however, I am often skeptical of many online pharmaceutical companies. 11. Daviebeer,

Nice photoshop! Keep developing that technology and you'll be richer than paul mccartney. When we can get up in the morning and put the noggin' in the HPHP3000 (Hewlett Packer Head Printer 3000)how happy we will be! Meanwhile, I did a procedure with too few grafts (1700) at MHR at $3.90 per. While I feel I got lucky and got a pretty good surgeon, for MHR, as my donor scar is practically invisible and there are now hairs enjoying the sunlight out on the front porch for a change, I would have been willing to pay more if necessary to get the job I wanted in one go.

I took out a small loan to pay for my surgery with a manageable monthly payment and no interest if paid off in one year. I have 4 months to finish paying, and I get offers from credit card companies every day for no interest balance transfers if I need to take a little longer than that. Take the money you'd spend on the flight, hotel, longterm parking, Spanish for beginners, strippers, etc, and roll it into your surgery.

dhoose75's recommendation of propecia is a good idea since your current hairline is 'distinguished' rather than AWOL. Try it for a year while you shop around.

ng2nb is right. Avoid the tacos! icon_smile.gif

  12. Gents,

I have been on Propecia or it's generic equivalent Finpecia for about 10 months. My hair does not shed anymore, and I have had no sexual side effects. A lot of your experience is in how you think about it. The human mind can psyche itself into or out of almost anything!

  13. I love these guys! Oblivion, I had a 'questionable' experience with MHR. I am FAR older than you. I became very obsessed with my hairline in my teens. At 44 I got fed up with my five-head as I called it. (As opposed to a forehead...) I was getting to the horseshoe around the back of the head stage, and I started with Propecia. I went to a consultation with MHR and the doc there said I would need 1700 grafts. Period. I jumped right in. I got the surgery in Feb. In May or so the guy said i'd need at least 1700 more to finish the job. I was, needless to say, pissed off. He also told me, to his credit, that i should wait 12- 18 months for the transplant to completely grow in. I found this forum just after the surgery, if I recall correctly. I have consulted with Dr True in NYC via online, and he won't even see me until it's been at least a year because he won't be able to determine what I need until then. I will visit him next spring. The progress is slow, the propecia is helping, my wife very generously tells me it's looking good (I know she says it because she loves me), but THIS FORUM has just about been the best help of all, I kid you not. The best move you can make? Here it is. The rest will be a lot easier because of your visits here.

  14. Hey Folks,

My GP said he did not want to put me on Proscar since it is a prostate medicine, and he did not want to have to put in my permanent medical records that I have prostate trouble. I purchased Finpecia and am looking into it a bit deeper. Have not yet begun to take it, but what a savings! We all know the power of big Pharmaceuticals in this country, so I know they are overcharging.

  15. P40,

Say 10 'Hail Marys', and 3 'Our Fathers', go forth and fugeddaboudit. You are totally off the hook with me. I completely get the passion you men approach this topic with, and your sentiments in your first posting are very clear. I appreciate the no Bullshit policy as well. Thanks again for letting me participate, and thanks for ALL of everyone's support. Now. Enough about me.
