  1. hey. havent been on for a while.

i am now 3 weeks post op.

scabbing is there (been putting lots of vit e oil on scalp)

i have not put my head under a shower and will not for another week. doing a much more conservative washing approach so i get proper healing of all grafs. do not want any to fall out, get dammaged, etc etc

i have been taking a very conservative approach with washing, etc.

i will for one more week wash with shampoo and water (using a cup to pour it on slowly), then my medication plus minoxidil after letting my hair air dry, then vitamin e oil.

been doing this for 3 weeks, and everything looks good so far.

healing is good. i have the staples out (minor irritance) and good small scar.

have some numbness back there, and it is supposed to go way by 6 month mark

other than that, ill keep you posted.

  2. Hi all. Im 7 days post op.

Everythign is fine. Still swelling. I swelled up alot, but it was just an annoyance.

Have not needed any pain killers or anything like that .

Simply cleaning area, all looks ok. Did my first post op check up and all is well.

Sux sleeping upright, but what the hell.

    Swelling hopefully gone by tomorrow.

Staples getting a bit annoying, but nothing that is killing me.

  5. Is 8 days post op enough time that a hat or thin touque do not put pressure on transplant units?

I mean, I know the first few days you cant touch it, but I do know at 4 days you can wear a loose ball cap. But what about a touque (sort of a beanie) that is only really snug around the outsides, not on top, but does rest on the head.

I want to wear a beanie (roots, thin, black) because It will cover staples and I will be in cold enviroment and dont want anyone to see.

    any responses?

  6. Ok, I need help. 8 days after I have my HT, I need to be somewhere working. Now, I know I will have redness and the staples will be in.

I was told I could wear a hat, but I dont think that hat will cover the staples. Also, the people I will be around are a bit forward, and will notice my hair shaved (used to be quite long) and will be trying to look under my cap. Now, that might not happen, but there is always the cchance.

Today, I went to ROOTS and bought a black roots beanie (its not very thick, or really that tight at all). IT covers my forehead and the entire back of my head.

I need to wear this for all day Friday and all day Saturday.

Is that cool? I dont want anyone to see I had a HT, that is just me, and that wont change. Especially i nthe line of work I do, I would not hear the end of it. If i can get by this weekend after day 8 post op, I will be ok cuz then the staples will come oout the next week, and I will not have to do much in public until then, and then I can go back to a ball cap.

    HELP PLEASE

  8. At 8 days post op, I am told that wearing a ball cap is not problem.

But, the problem for me is that the ball cap doesnt completely hide the staples.

I bought a very thin Roots black toque today (its knitted, but thin).

Can i wear that at 8 days post op? It covers everythign, and isnt' really tight.

    Help please.

  9. i forget to mention, he also made it clear that it is to his advantage to do more than 2500, but said to me that is not my best interest when you look at all the factors(patient specific) in my case. I must admit, he doe sreally take your safety into consideration, but i guess he has to and i imagine most others do as well.

Anways, again, please insight on how it went for some of you..

I really would love to talk to some of you by phone.

  10. The theory behind it is this:

dont do thecrown, take propecia and see if it works.

im not big on taking drugs.

do 2500 in the front, and get that all done.

see if propecia works, and if it does not, come back in 6 months and do the back.

im not sure i like that, cuz i hate the crown big time.

also, i was told because of donor density, just worry about the front now . if i was to do both, i would have to take 2 strips, one above the other, which is a bad idea.

ok, now im totally confused which method to take.

i want to get it all done.

sorry for not being very clear

i must admit, the doctor i have been seeing has been incredibly ethical with me.

  11. well, i dont need to do the second surgery exactly one month apart. i asked when is the earliest i could get it done, he said one month.

I would no question wait if it was a problem.

second, with respect to the number of grafts, i was told that i would need to because of the amount of hair in a donor area per session.

Supposedly, to limit size of scar and maximize amount of grafts, it would be better doing 2500, then the next surgery doing 1000 and making the next incision over the first scar.

    does that make sense?

i was told that if i do all at once, i would have to take 2 strips, one above the other.

    help, what are your thoughts

  12. Hi guys.

Well, the first surgery i am doing is a strip. I have not booked the second one as of yet, but I was told that a month is sufficent time.

What they would do is this:

    do the first strip.

    give month to heal

the next strip would be bascially like this:

    --- is the first scar

    ==== is the second strip

    =========

    ---------

    =========

Does that make sense? They said that it is a big mistake taking 2 strips one above the other because of laxity.

They said the minium time to wait isa month and the second strip would include the donor scar from the first strip.

  13. Hi people. Ok, firstly, im kind of pre-planning my next couple months and need some suggestions.

Firstly, head is shaved right now, and will do part 1 of 2 transplants OCT 1 (2500 for front). In November (around 3 o 4, part 2 (1000 in crown).

I do alot of work (casual dress) thus I will need to wear a hat that will cover staples and top (top until redness goes away).

What sort of hats can I wear. I work in sports, so ball caps are ok. But, will they cover the back staples.

After 2 weeks, I assume the staples are ataken out. The with shaved head, I will have to wear a hat until hair covers scar.

    Suggestions.

ps. i hate how i look with shaved head thus i want a hat.

im thinking of the sort of thing the edge from U2 wears (those thin hats).
