  1. The 16th century philosopher Frances Bacon once wrote"He who knows his subject is master of his own end." To that end we share our experiences in hopes of making the most informed choices regarding our condition. I have visited this site several times over the past years and after much deliberation finally decided that the only reasonable course of action was to acquire the services of a qualified hair transplant surgeon. So in December of 2007 I set up an appointment to discuss the possibility with Dr. Steven Gabel.Being cautious by nature and being aware of the possible sales aspect associated with this type of cosmetic surgery I approached the whole undertaking with a sense of uneasiness. In retrospect none of my concerns came to fruition as the whole experience turned out to be pleasant and informative. To begin with the office was upscale and the staff very helpful. The consultation was with Dr. Gabel alone. He was quite upfront with what was and was not possible from such a procedure. His credentials were exemplary. Being a plastic surgeon by training and limiting his practice to only hair related matters it was obvious that he was committed to hair restoration full time. So with all this information to guide me I scheduled a procedure and am now at day 8 after surgery. The whole thing was surprisingly comfortable from start to finish. Wanting about 3,000 grafts(and got 3021)I arrived early that morning (6:30am) and left later that evening(5:00pm).There was ample experienced staff scheduled to complete the surgery(8 total including Dr. Gabel.).Also of note the Dr. was there virtually the whole time and personally made all the incisions and placed around half the grafts himself while the rest were busy cutting the strip into individual grafts. All in all I must say the most difficult part of the whole undertaking was the decision to make the initial consultation. Dr. Gabel and his staff made the rest of the process an easy choice. Thanks for listening. I will post pictures as soon as they can be loaded and will update as practical. sg
