  1. Hi Martin, I am 22 and had my 1st HT done about a month ago! I too was in a very similar situation, where i was trying to weigh up the issue of age against my declining confidence. The more i thought about it, researched what was available to me, looked at my familys MPB, and thought about the anguish i faced on a daily basis: worrying about wind, rain, wearing hats etc etc. There is a lot of advice from the older generation on this forums, who have no doubt "been there and done it" in regards to the mental state of mind we go through. And although their very advice has helped me with my choice of whether i should get a HT, there is a lot of negativity around younger people having a HT. However, as you mentioned and very beautifully articulated by Thana, after taking everything into account, i decided that i have more than enough donor hair to utilise moving forwards if my hair does take a more agressive baldness pattern (i have had 1600 grafts), and as mentioned above, i want to utilise my younger years with confidence and happiness, whilst also trying to prepare for as i get older. All in all i am very happy, and i am playing the waiting game now, wish the next few months would hurry up so i can see the results!
  2. jspence09, thought i'd give you my two pennies worth, as everyone else on this site, i have been affected by similar things. I am 22 myself, so can completly relate to where you are coming from, it seems as though you have had a lot of good advice of people here already, so a lot of what i'll say is just echoing others advice. Definitely get yourself onto Fin - propecia / proscar, it is the most proven thing on the market to help hair loss in some way, whether thats slowing it, or, in some cases actually helps re-grow. A reality check on it though, it is quite unlikely that after taking it, a year down the line will see you with a full head of hair again. I took it, and now take it in 6 month cycles which has effectively stopped any further hair loss. The other options as mentioned is nanogen, which a lot of people have already given you info about, so no need for more If you are going to go down the HT route at some point, be sure to put hours and hours and hours of research in, it isnt something to be taken lightly, and your choice of doc is essential! I have just had a HT, after researching a lot on this site, and talking to a lot of people on here, reading a lot of forums, looking at a lot of peoples results, finding out whether the surgeon was recommended by this site as well as other docs in the HT circle. I was very nearly duped into havig a HT when i was 20, by a smooth talking salesman who convinced me it was what i needed, i luckily dud my research before going ahead and found the clinic to be below-par at best. Definitely get on the meds ASAP, and should you have any questions about anything, thats what this forum is here for Good luck
  3. Also are you able to post pics of the results so we can see for ourselves? Ta
  4. Dude, I really feel for you, i know the feeling very well, i am only 22 and have just had my HT done, obviously being young, cost was a factor in my decision, however after luckily stumbling across this site and talking with a lot of people i have (hopefully) picked a good doctor (obviously i wont know until i see the results in the next 6-9 months!). I felt what must've been a tenth of a percent of the anger you feel as i read your post! It is horrific that these cowboy doctors, can so easily prey upon people, and nearly destroy peoples lives with the "work" they do. Wish there was something in place that gave you some kind of reprisal against them! Wishing you all the best mate, keen to find out how things progress, keep us updated!
  5. Cheers bud, Is great to hear its already had a much more positive influence on you after just a couple of months, keep us all updated, be good to see someone who is 2 + months ahead of me!
  6. Cheers Hunky, just the waiting game now, fingers crossed
  7. Andy, great to hear your story buddy!! Am completely with you on the sound....wow its horrible isnt it, the crunching!! I had mine done on October 4th so pretty close in our dates, fingers crossed for great results for both, i am sure you are going to look great! great write up, and also another great demonstration of Dr fellers generosity, this guy seems amazing!
  8. hairloser, i agree with what you have said entirely, with regards to a topical or oral form of a regeneration cure. Obviously it is very difficult to predict where will be with technological advcancements in the next 10-15 years, but the speed of technological advancement not just now but in the last 10-15 years is amazing, it is very exciting to see what cures / preventions would become available. I picked stem cell research as a discussion point, as it seems to be an area at the moment with a lot of investment and progression, and whole-heartedly believe it would provide an option / cure to people with MPB, without any emotional / physical trauma (assuming you pick a doctor with an excellent vision and artistic hand). Also agree with raphael, is there anyone with more knowledge in tis area and / or docs that could shed some light? Cheers
  9. Cheers Bill! My anxiety has been somewhat eased by some helpful info from my clinic and others on this forum regarding the grafts securing themsleves by day 3 / 4 post-op and being quite difficult to remove unless being over vigourous (which obviously wont happen ) This has helped a lot in putting my mind at rest about losing all of the lovely new hairs i am hoping to see in 9 months - 1 year
  10. Cheers for the help Clipper, something else im also keen to know about is how you go about drying your hair... I have had my frontal hairline filled in, so there is a lot of hair still to dry, and obviously i dont want to be rough, so at the mo just patting it then using a blow dryer on a low and cool setting Best of luck with the 21st, looking forward to seeing pics
  11. Fantastic growth mrkneed, a full looking head of hair...cant get much better!
  12. wow, what a great repair job! no idea what he is concerned about... his hairline looks great, and echoing aaron, i'd be looking at more denisty around the crown area in a future HT. But he should be over the moon with those results, it is a million miles away from what he had before hand!!
  13. I have a lot of personal interest in stem cell research - my grandfather has parkinsons - in researching more into stem cell research, it is my belief that it would effectively be a cure for Male Pattern Baldness, and it would then be down to the artistic hand and skill of the surgeon as to the end result. I believe from what i have read, that once they are able to replicate a specific stem cell, they will be able to take 1 hair from the donor area, and replicate as many hairs as required for a HT. This is where it will become down to the surgeons skill as to how they could recreate your hairline. This should in effect mean people are able to have heads full of hair - as thick as when they were a child, without leaving scars from FUE or FUT. Obviously i am not an expert in this area, but do you see this being a solution to MPB? If anyone has more knowledge on this particular area, how long do you think it will be until they are able to do this, it seems as though they are making advancements all the time in this area - in fact i believe they have already managed to recreate hair cells on animals... Keen to know peoples thought, just as a discussion piece..
  14. Hi, just wanted to bring this back up again, i too was very frustrated at the lack of hair blogs from Transmed before i actually went out there to have my op. However, after speaking with them whilst i was there, i was informed they do a lot of HT's on Turkish patients, who generally come from Turkish high society due to it being an expensive procedure for the average wage earnt there. Due to it being i.e. CEO of a well known local company, or a well known person within Turkey, they do not want to bring attention to the fact they have had a HT afterwards, which leads to a lack of info here. However, there is slowwly becoming more literature around Transmed and what the ops they perform on here, as well a high recommendation from Bill and within the industry. I am obviously hoping for the best wwith me results with them...now its the waiting game! But will definitely keep you updated with how my results progress.
  15. hey, just wanted to say congratulations on what has obviously been a "rollarcoaster" journey emotionally. The results are FANTASTIC, it is so good to hear a horror story turn good, and what a demonstration of Dr fellers abilities. I am genuiniely pleased for you, its amazing to know that such a difference has been made to your life, and obvious turmoil and heartache has changed into such positive emotions. Congratulations
  16. Also... i was wondering if there are any tips on drying your hair... i have had my temples filled in, so not quite sure how to go about it apart from a blow dryer on a cool and not to hard setting, this however takes quite a while, any other ideas?
  17. Clipper - congratulations!!! I had my HT with Dr Melike on Monday 5th October!! I still have a number head, however they advised this would last for a few days! Today is my 1st wash by myself, any tips? I am so unbelievably nervous about the 1st 2 weeks and making sure the grafted hairs stay! Tips are greatly appreciated!!! Ta
  18. Hi, I have just had my HT with Dr Melike in istanbul, all seems to have gone very well. I am now day 3 after op and have my 1st wash by myself today. Spex has kindly sent me the link to all of his tips RE post-op care, just wondered if anyone had any tips on the 1st washing and/or any for the next few weeks ahead. I seem to be quite lucky in the sense i have accepted time and patience will be a virtue, however i am extremely anxious over the next 2 weeks to ensure as many of the grafts survive as possible... tips please Ta
  19. It is a pleasure to join the "muskateers" Just out of interest Mop, how did you go about your "1st" wash at home, i was thinking about putting the shampoo in a large mug and pouring it over my hair, gently dabbing at the transplanted areas, and then showing afterwards, making sure i keep my head out of the shower...gradually building up to a proper shower? Good to know how you went about it? Also have you managed to find time to get the pics up yet? Ta
  20. Thanks for the help guys, i will defo look at the article spex, my Dr recommended to keep it on at night, so the swelling doesnt move down to the eyes, whats your thoughts? I dont think i'll be so anxious when i know the grafts have settled, i am just very anxious about them coming out at this early stage! Dan
  21. Hey, Just thought i'd update you all, maybe i can be member 4 of the "transmed group" now. I have had my HT done, and will be uploading some more pics as it progresses. Hunky, your early re-growth looks great!! Got my fingers crossed for similar! Any tips on the first week after? I am very worried about the follicules falling out, and keep checking every half an hour in the mirror, to make sure they are still implanted and not easing themseleves out (bad i know!) would be good to know what you did? I am more than happy to provide anyone with any information about my experiences, and have just wrote a longish piece on my experience, but please feel free to contact me if you have questions.. Dan
  22. Hi, Just got back from having my 1st HT - 1600 grafts - and now they have been planted, i am extremely nervous the follicules will fall out before they have had the time to fully heal, especially as i am wearing a head band to stop the swelling go to my eyes. i am worried the ban is riding up whilst i am sleeping and will potentially pull the follicules out, is this a possibility? Does anyone have any tips on the nervous first 2 weeks after a HT to ensure you retain as many as possible? Cheers
  23. Hi Guys, Some of you may have seen some of my questions and posts around info for Trasnmed, after a lot of research into the clinic and Dr Melike herself, i decided that i was going to go ahead with the procedure. I arrived on Sunday 4th October in Istanbul, and unfortunately they could not meet me at the airport due to heavy rain / flooding, leading to a lot of traffic problems (you will quickly realise how bad traffic is in Istanbul). However i was quickly informed to get a taxi, which they would deduct from the cost of my HT. The next day was the day of the op, and i was picked up from my hotel by people at Transmed and transferred to the clinic. When i arrived it was in a lovely location in Istanbul, and my first thoughts were how clean everything looked inside. Everything is white and brightly lit, and you are made to put blue plastic covers over your shoes when you arrive, which again enhances the effect of cleanliness. The staff were extremely friendly, polite and warm upon my arrival, and i was made to feel extremely welcome. I had a quick chat with the sales director before being introduced to Dr Melike, where i was able to ask any outstanding questions i had, as well as discuss how the procedure was going to take place, and have my "full consultation" discussing numbers of grafts and the likelihood of success. (I have a slightly different case to others as i have scar tissue to my upper left temple). The procedure took 3 hours, and Dr Melike presided over the majority of it. There was little or no pain throughout, although the initial harvesting is a little uncomfortable. Throughout the HT, you are brought drinks, food, can sleep, or watch T.V, whilst always ensuring the attentiveness and care of the staff at Transmed. After the op, Dr Melike made sure i understood all of the post-op care instructions, and again took time to alleviate any fears or questions i had. I was brought back the next day, and was shown how to wash my hair, to ensure i didnt pull any of the hairs out and wash carefully around the stapled incision. On the third day (today) i was taken to the Trasnmed offices to be personally wished off. In my discussion with their Sales Director, he informed me that Transmed see every patient as an individual, and no bad results can be tolerated by them, so has asked me to keep in constant contact throughout the next 6 months - year to see how the successful the growth has been. He informed me that in the unlikely event that i dont get the results i want, Trasnmed would bring me back to have another consultation to find out why and where it hasn't gone right and look at a solution - free of charge. All in all, my experience was extremely pleasant, obviously "the proof of the pudding, is in the eating" and until i see what the results are, i can only recommend Transmed on the experience i have had to now, which has been great so far. Fingers crossed for good growth! Any questions please ask, thanks for reading. I will be posting regualr update pics, on my hairloss website.
  24. Hi Hunky, Looking forward to seeing another pic up if you wouldnt mind I have my op on Monday, am a little nervous now, although looking forward to seeing Istanbul as well! How long were you noticably red after the op? I go back to work a week after the op, and would rather people couldnt see it! Did they advise you on how long you shouldnt go to the gym / do weights / drink alcohol for after the procedure? Cheers
  25. Hi All, I have my HT booked for 5th October, and quite excited!! However i am an avid rugby player and want to know how long i should take out before going back to play? When will it become safe for the transplanted hairs to play again? I am having a FUT, so im guessing minimum is until the staples have been taken out and that has healed, but any more info would be great!! Cheers
