  1. Thanks for responding, you have both lifted my spirits somewhat. sorry for sounding down but some of the guys here are very anti-HT and this can be demoralising at times for my future outlook. No offense to anyone though as i know they are simply trying to be realistic.
  2. The only cure seems to be castration which seems to defy the purpose of men wanting to keep their hair in the first place. Getting a transplant when you are at the peak of your life, late teens through 20s, seems to be ridiculous as you will lose more hair, need more transplants, run out of donor hair and be left with nonsense hair. Propecia only works for 3 years, and is meant to only start having effect after one year, so in effect it slows down hair loss in some men for 2 years and doesnt regrow any hair.Avodart is no where near the miracle drug it was supposed to be and hair cloning if it ever happens in our lifetime will be so unaffordable it may as well have never been invented. Ever get the feeling we are fighting not only a losing battle but a pointless one? I have been lsing my hair since 16, while i was still at school, this is a lot more distressful than losing it at any other age, except younger of course. Now i am being told there is no point in getting a transplant until i am 30. This may be relatively young in the grand scale of things but most peoples lifes are settled by this age, so to me this would be pointless. When all is said i dont have a lot of hope left in any future treatments.

  4. well not confused simply by your advice but also by other peoples input regarding what type of hair transplant to get at a young age. you seem to recommend staying conservative and having future treatments to keep up with the hairloss. however others have said having numerous HTs will widen the scar at the back of the head and make it harder to conceal. I was thus thinking of having a mega session in the future and not small HT sessions. Any thoughts? not just arfy but anyone with advice would be greatly appreciated.

  6. In my younger days i was into wrestling, watching it that is. I was a big fan of the rock, however i stopped watching it as i got a bit older. yesterday i was over at my cousins house and he had it on sky, wrestlemania was on, some of you may have watched it. Anyway i was shocked when i saw the rock come out as he was quite bald, i was use to seeing him with a whole head of hair. A newer wrestler who i also remember with hair had also gone bald, Kurt Angle for those that are interested. My cousin looked at me and said that those people are bald and dont seem to mind. However seeing them was actually depressing as both of them looked pretty bad bald and i am sure they would love to have kept their hair. Would they have become superstars if they were bald to begin with? i would like to think so. This may be a sad observation but i am at the stage where the first thing you do when you see a guy is look at his hairline, i am sure we have all been there. anyway thought i would share my observation.

  8. Thanks for the advice guys, nice to know there are people who will try to help others when they are feeling down. I will try to keep my chin up and continue to do research for a couple of years yet before i make any future plans on a HT.
  9. First of all i will respond to arfys questions. i have been on minoxidil (xandrox) for 4 months now. I have noticed a slight improvement in my hair however the hair at the front of my head has gotton thinner due to using xandrox, in my opinion. I have been on propecia since july 2002. it has not had any noticeable effect as yet. some people i have spoken to say it takes a year for it to have effect, some say it only works for a year. However the most common view for most people seems to be that it works for a maximum of 3 years after which people begin to shed heavily like before. Now a question for you both, and anyone else who would like to respond of course. Vocor, you have mentioned that if i were to get a hair transplant i should get all over coverage as this will help prepare for future loss. however could this not lead to a great deal of shock loss as areas of hair will be disturbed by implanting donor hair? Plus i was also wondering why it is that younger people go bald a lot quicker than older people, any thoughts on this? I dont know what to do anymore. no other male in my family is bald, i for some reason am, i had pinned all my hopes on the solution being getting a HT in the next couple of years, however many of you seem to think this unwise. I am getting depressed again as there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel, i can imagine future generations of my family who will all have hair and look at photos of some bald guy from time past and ask their mum who the hell the slaphead was. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  11. Is it not possible that with a good HT doc that he would be able to prepare for future loss? many people on this forum seem to be against getting a transplant at this age but i am unfortuhately a norwood 3 and it doesnt seem to be really stopping, propecia and minoxidil are not that effective it seems. any feedback would be appreciated.

  13. It seems that there seem to be very mixed reviews of this drug, so much so that it has become difficult to know what to believe. some say that they are shedding, they are told by some that this is a sign that its working, others say this shows it is failing. Some people say that it blocks over 90% dht in the scalp, others say a lot less. It is true that it blocks both of the type 5 alpha-base reductors (excuse the spelling), however i have heard that it only blocks a small amount of type 5b which is the main cause of DHT in the scalp. if this is true then it is really only a little more effective than propecia and would help explain why glaxosmithkline have not released it for MPB. Also it is hard to form an opinion of it simply by taking the word of others on it, this is not a reliable method to base judgements on. i think the only way for anyone to asertain whether this drug would work for them is to take it, however the ridiculous cost and dangerous side effects are for the moment keeping me away from this supposed superdrug.

  15. On a forum i recently heard that men who have one testicle are less likely to go bald because there is less DHT being produced in their body. Is there any truth to this bizzare notion?

  17. Thanks for the input guys. If this new research is true then i shall be making a trip to a surgeon with my dad who has a whole head of hair; it may stop me feeling annoyed everytime i look at his full head of hair at 46 and my small, dying, head of hair at 22.
  18. Thanks for the info mate, in case you are interested, i think i am a norwood 3.
  19. Has anyone had any dealings with them, they seem to use the same technique that DR woods does. I was wondering whether they were reputable or not. Thanks for any feedback.

  21. I have been studying avodart with much interest now and am dissapointed with the results. Many people are shedding heavily on it, and no this is not neccessarily a good thing as for many the hair is not growing back. Also it was claimed that avodart blocked 90% of DHT. This may be true for blocking body DHT but it only blocks around 56% scalp DHT, so not as effective as people may think. Furthermore many people have had very bad side effects, swelling of hands, breast enlargement and so on. Furthermore the fact that the company which makes it has cancelled phase 3 trials for it leads me to think that it is not that much more effective than propecia. I dont mean to dishearten anyone on the drug, i really would like it to be the drug that we have been waiting for but at the moment in anycase it doesnt seem to be, i may be proved wrong in the future, we shall have to wait and see.
  22. I always hear people talking about what norwood scale they are at, however i have no idea what norwood scale i am at. Is there any way that i can find this out? is there a website that will show the different levels? Thanks for any help.

  24. do you mean that it may have little effect using minoxidil products and propecia/avodart that reduce DHT if our hair has a genetic code which will make it fall out?
