  1. Hey Vince, Hope you are doing well. Did you decide on a date yet? I have been waiting to see more FUE results from doctors. I would like to avoid the strip scar. The recent Armani, Feller, and Wolf sessions with FUE look promising but very expensive. I have been on propecia for almost 4 months and I am starting to see some minor regrowth. My hairline shed a fair amount during the first couple months using the drug. This loss could have been a result of my natural recession but it is very hard to say. Right now I am hesitant to get an HT in the hairline without knowing how far my future loss will progress. I may wait until my hair has receded closer to NOR 3-4. I currently comb my hair forward in a way that reduces the appearance of the recession. I am also dreading having to explain all of this to my girlfriend... oy!
  2. I think you are definitely too young and do not have enough loss. Have you thought of growing your hair out a bit instead of having a buzz cut? You could easily reduce the appearance of your receding hairline with a different hair style. Something to consider.
  3. Hey prodigy, I am 26 and probably a 3 on the norwood chart. I am considering an HT but I am probably on the verge of being too young. You are probably way to young. Being 18 and having to deal with this is rough. Realistically an ethical doctor probably wouldnt perform a HT on someone at your age. How far has your hair receeded on the norwood chart? Can you post any pics?
  4. guy- Yes depending on the hairline, several doctors have told me I could get less than 2000 graphs (roughly 1500-1800). Some of the "top" doctors (with the best results I have seen) suggested 2500 graphs to fill in everything including the temples. I am a bit hesitant to go that far so early. alsocooleyfied- I see your results are very good with only 1700 graphs. My conern is that you are 38 while I am only 26. My hairloss will probably proceed much farther by the time I am your age. Maybe I am being overly cautious but I think I should minimize the amount of surgical trauma to my scalp at such a young age. Having said that I have to admit that I have been quite unhappy with how my hair looks right now. It is a hard thing to deal with at such a young age.
  5. guy- I have been putting a lot of thought into this and may wait until my hairloss progresses before getting a HT. If I get a HT now, my front forlock will probably recede soon, requiring further surgeries within a couple years time. I am finding that there are very few HT doctors that seem to discuss such realities with younger patients -they are often more than ready to take your money.
  6. guy- I would consult a physician and be patient. I have seen three doctors and one was from a University hospital -not a HT physician. You do not want to rush into a HT -especially if you are at a young age. I can guarantee that most doctors performing a HT will strongly recommend that you begin propecia immediatly. I have been on Propecia for about a month and will wait probably at least 6 months to have a HT (if I choose to get one so soon). With propecia I have noticed some loss in my hairline but it is hard to determine if it is the medication. You tend to focus more on hair falling out when you are concerned about it. You have to realize that it is normal to shed a certain amount of hairs every day.
  7. Thanks for the response guys. pushing 40- the rest of my hair is pretty solid though I am noticing my front area has receded quite a bit in the last couple of years. I do not think my hair has thinned at all on the back or top of my head. thehairlosscure- thanks. Yeah, it sounds like I should wait a bit or be prepared for multiple surgerys. I will give the propecia a bit of time before I consider the surgery. josh- I have had two consultations in southern california and several online. Both doctors in california estimated the same amount; roughly 2000 grafts. I am very cautious about lowering my hairline and probably would only fill in the recession around the front sides. Most of the doctors suggested lowering my hairline (which didnt seem very ethical to me and surprised me quite a bit) Bill- thanks. With the more research I have done it seems that one procedure solving my issue is probably not very realistic. Thanks for the link to your articles. I think you are right on point with your advice about planning for the long term.
  8. Thank you for the quick response everyone. dhoose- I think you are right about waiting one year or at least six months on propecia. Both my grandfathers were around a Nor 5-6 in their mid 50's. My mother's dad was around a nor 3V by the time he was 34. My father is probably a nor 2 at age 55. My father's brother is probably a nor 4-5 at age 63. Middleson- Thank you so much for the advice. Nearly every coallition doctor I have consulted (through email or in person) has suggested roughly 2000 graphs. Some have suggested more which seems a bit high to me. I was told that propecia will help stabilize or slow down the recession of the hair on the crown. The only way to fill in my hairline at this point would be through a transplant. pushing 40- thanks. I have been reading a lot and it seems there are many more options now for hairloss than there was even 10 years ago. It is rough going through this in your 20s. Furless- I just started on propecia and have been told by many doctors that it helps almost 90% of their patients. Would you mind telling me where your loss is on the Norwood scale? I have been considering waiting for further loss before getting a HT but I am very selfconscious right now at a nor 3.
  9. I am writing to seek advice from those who have had any experience with a HT (especially those in their mid 20's). I am a 26 year old male and a norwood 2-3. I am considering an HT but I worry that restoring the sides of my hairline may require further grafts later on when the center recedes -creating an awkward appearance. I have attached a photo of my hairline below. I recently just started on propcia (right now I have little to no loss in my crown) but I worry how my loss will progress into my 30's and 40's. I have seen several doctors restore hairlines of patients in their mid 20s with great results but I wonder how those results fair several years later. Is it wise to wait for further recession in my hairline to nor 4 before getting an HT? Has anyone had their hairline restored in their mid 20s with a norw 2-3 and had these results maintained years later? This has all been very depressing for me being young. People assume that I am well into my 30s. I would greatly appreciate any advice that you guys can offer. Best, Birdy
  10. Just started @ age 26 nor 2-3. I will let you know how it goes for me.
