Ok, I've isolated 2 surgeons for my next HT: Hasson and Rahal. But I've seen work from Turkey which is amazing! I particularly like Alvi Armani. Do you think Turkish docs are the best? If so which do you recommend?

With all due respect, you really probably need to do more research. I put Alvi's first name because I thought his name was blocked on this site (and it would be for good reason). Do some Google searching. He definitely isn't someone I'd recommend.

 

The Turkey stuff? Are you going to travel anywhere near Syria and trust you will get quality work? Um, no. I'd almost rather drive down to Tijuana if price is what matters.

 

I don't sit here and recommend Konior just because I had him do my HT. I did the research before and knew he was the guy. Here is a little sneak peak of my 2nd procedure with Dr. K on Tuesday....dense enough for you? I have a ton of ointment on here (the white parts), too...covering even more grafts.

Hi matt. Thanks for the heads up on Alvi. But I don’t understand why you don’t recommend him. Although his site is way over commercialized, the b&a pics are damn good!

About traveling to Turkey, I don’t discriminate against a group for their ethnic/religious beliefs. If a doc does great work, that’s what counts, nothing else.

Btw, I saw your pics.. looks very good! Got a few questions for you:

1) Why don’t you like Alvi? Any controversy about him?

2) Are you averse to just Alvi or docs in Turkey in general?

I read that the Turkish docs are world renown, possibly the best in the world. I'm seriously considering visiting these Turkish docs. I think I'll schedule a skype call and talk to them.

You included Feller but you excluded Rahal from your list? I have to politely disagree with you. Any reason why you omitted Rahal? I'm sure Feller is a good surgeon, but he doesn't belong on that list with the likes of Shapiro and Hasson.

Konior, Shapiro (in MN), Hasson & Wong and Feller in NY. Those are the forum favorites. Gabel in Portland has some really good results as well. There are other good docs and there is risk with everything, but when you venture from those 5, the risk starts going up.

 

I am very satisfied with my result from Konior. May have a second one in the future just to get more density, but that has to do with the area needing to be covered, not Dr. Konior's skills.

Have you checked out Alvi Armani? His work looks very good, even though hes in the middle east. I think hes in Turkey if I’m not mistaken. I may consider traveling to Turkey to see this doc.

My research lead me to Hasson, Rahal, Ron Shapiro, and Konior for strip.

 

I eliminated Konior as I preferred the other 3. I would recommend meeting with all three in person and picking the one who you feel can best achieve your goals for you and the one you feel most comfortable with.

 

Seeing you are going for dense packing, one method may achieve more density than the others. good luck mate

Ok, I don’t like Shapiro, so it boils down to Rahal, Hasson, and Konior. I did see Rahal In person and would like to see him again.

I like Rahal. But his b&a pics on his website show guys getting touch ups on the temple area. Theyre Norwood 2 patients. Even though I’m Norwood 2 also, I still want to see more challenging HTs before I decide to go with him. Also I haven’t seen updated videos or pics of his patients. His youtube videos are 2 years old. And I haven’t seen any personal video testimonials of his patients. This is weird.

Hasson is very good. But he only shows a few densely packed patients.

I looked at Konior. But he doesn’t give as much density as Rahal. But hes still good.

We all want that 21 year old hairline and you will find some to give it to you (Alvi was one of those).

Funny that you mention that “we all want that 21 year old hairline.” When I saw Rahal he said he cant take me back 30 years. That’s fine with me. If he could take me back just 7 years, I’d be completely satisfied.

Its also funny that you mention Alvi. I never saw his work until today. I’m VERY impressed with his results. I think he can compete well with Hasson and Rahal. I’ll probably consider seeing him instead.

Konior for sure, I think Rahal puts out some good results...Hassan and Wong puts out some nice ones....Shapiro in Minneapolis....Gabel is an up and comer...Feller is a good one...Cooley is very good...

 

That being said....I'm not 100% sure all of the docs above do both FUT and FUE so take that into consideration.

But dont you think Hasson is better than Konior?

And in terms of FUE vs FUT, I'll go with FUT since I want to ensure that the harvest quality is high. With FUE, some of the follicles can actually die rendering lower hair count and growth.

What exactly do you expect from 3,900 grafts on a bald head? He got good coverage with descent density, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but my opinion is that you don't have a clear understanding on the limitations of surgery, my opinion is that you have unrealistic expectations for 3,900 grafts. In order to restore a Norwood 5-6 completely you're going to need 6-8000 grafts depending on hair characteristics.

Ok I understand this. But given that this is Rahal's work I was seriously expecting a bit more density. That doesnt mean that its a bad HT. But again, looking at Rahal's other work and comparing that with this, I was expecting a little more.

Maybe you'd like to share pics of Rahal's other patients who've posted their progress on this forum?

I've been looking at a few HT surgeons that i would consider the best. One doc in particular is Dr. Hasson that I'm seriously thinking about but I got a few questions before seeing him:

1) Have any of you guys been treated by Dr. Hasson? If so, can you post your b&a pics?

2) Has anyone had bad experiences with Dr. Hasson? If so, post your pics.

3) Are there any other docs better than Dr. Hasson? If so who?

4) For best result with Dr. Hasson, which would you recommend, FUT or FUE?

Hey i looked at the pics of the HT patient you provided on the link. But sadly, thats not a great HT. I was expecting something much better from Rahal. I'm a bit disappointed.

Maybe if I can see more pics this would be better to help me form a better opinion.

I was looking at Dr. Rahal's website under the link, "Rahal Results",and almost all the pics of patients on there are gone. I really need to see these HT pics before I go see him. Is there a problem with the website?

If you can't use Propecia, have you looked into Dutasteride? Its a lot more potent than Fin though, and is still being trialed. Hasson & Wong also prescribe a topical form of Finasteride that you apply to the scalp, have you looked into that? You do have to go to Vancouver for an in-person consult though, although I think there is an online Pharmacy in Pittsburg that can make it.

I don’t have a prostate issue. So that med won’t apply to me. Thanks anyway. Funny you mention Canada. I’ve read many good meds not available in stupid USA are available in Canada. Blame the FDA for that.

So yes one side IS more dense then the other. I attribute it to me parting my hair to the side my whole life and using massive amounts of hair gel, spritz and gawd awful hair spray products in the 80's.

Thank you for saying this because yesterday I applied hairspray and gel to my hair. I was going to leave it on overnight without shampooing it out, which heart wrenching as it sounds, is what I usually do. And this I believe has caused the most damage to my follicles. After reading what you said about the damage of using hair products over the years, this got me to spring out of bed, hit the shower and shampoo it out. So thank you for this. From now on, the longest I’ll have goo on my hair will be 8 – 10 hours, max.

For me the focus is the midway spot of my hair line. The Docs office confirmed that with some patients it can take longer in that area for density and I am probable looking at better growth around month 9.

Yeah, give it another 3 – 6 months, you’ll see the density you’re expecting. The most important part for me is the front middle part of the scalp which is thinning. But believe it or not, I can get away from making it look fuller by using volumizer shampoos. Then I got to style it in a way that looks fuller, which takes 10 - 20 minutes to do in front of the bathroom mirror.

Do you have any DHT inhibitor options available to you to cease hair loss?

I really don’t. Like I said, I cant take any of these meds because of a medical condition that I’m suffering from. This meds will hamper my condition further.

In my case, I cant use propecia because of a pre-existing medical condition. If shock loss were greatly reduced or completely eliminated, there'd be far more confidence in HT procedures.

I appreciate the pics. Rahal did a very good job. But I noticed something in your 6 month post op pic that maybe you can explain. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong or maybe its the angle at which the pic was taken. But I see more density on the left side than on the middle front of your scalp. Dont get me wrong, the density is good. But relative to the left side, I notice less density. Am I right to assume this? I bring this up because I want to make sure that the front of my scalp is as dense as the sides when I get my HT. Is this a concern or am I looking at the pic wrong?

I think in your case the two things you are looking to distill down to is results you trust and a doc you feel comfortable with.

 

Look for that until you find it, until then look more and research.

Looks like I'll be going to see Rahal. I feel most comfortable with him by far. This of course doesnt mean that I expect a miracle. I know there are risks involved, with the prime one being shock loss.

Do you know if there are any medications (except for propecia and meds like it) that reduce shock loss? Do you know if there is current research to greatly reduce or eliminate it?

BTW, I looked at your pics from 6 months. you're looking very good. But I havent seen any of your pre op pics. Maybe you can upload those.

His case is extremely well documented. And he is very vocal about is concerns and experiences through the whole experience. He was great to talk to (on the phone) and I could definitely relate to his experiences.

 

The user "can't decide" has epic results and I am not knocking him but he is someone that has an epic supply available for HT. I wish I had even half as much as he had available for HT.

Hey the80swasfun.. I checked out laketahoeguy's pics. I got to tell you, I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped. I was able to see his scalp through his hair. And this was at 12 month post op.

I also saw Can't Decide's pics. Even though from what I saw it looks good, I still wish I could see more in-depth, close-up pics. I want to see pics or better yet, videos of patients who have recently reached their 9 or 12 month post op.

I think the best thing is to see pics of Rahal patients in their 9 - 12 month post op who've had 50 grafts/cm. Rahal said I'd need 50 grafts/cm. So I think this way I can see how my HT would look after 9 or 12 months post op.
