Hair piece after surgery

How long after surgery can you use a hairpiece over the recipient area? Also what system: tape or clips?

I got a "skin" based hair system with natural hair. The salon said I should shampoo it but wasn't sure how often and what the best way was. Any pointers? Thanks!!
