  1. Well I went to a new dentist the other day who happens to be a friend of mine. As a new patient, I had to fill out all of the "new patient" forms. One of those forms asked questions about previous surgeries (including cosmetic). I may have been wrong in doing so, but I checked the "no" box saying that I haven't had any done. I couldn't figure out how letting my dentist know that I had a hair transplant would help, so I figured I would mark "no". Another form that I had to sign was an authorization to release or show my medical records. This got me thinking.

Is every doctor or dentist that I go to from now on going to be able to know that I have had a hair transplant? How does that work? Would a doctor or dentist usually access my medical records? If so, is there any way to have it taken off? Just wondering.

  3. Don't worry too much. Patience is crucial. You basically just had an organ pulled out of one part of your body and placed in another. It takes some time for it to get past the stress, settle down, get use to the new environment, and start growing.

I am not a doctor or anything, but from what I understand there has been no evidence that if the father takes finasteride it can cause birth defects or other problems with the fetus. There has been evidence of such problems when the pregnant mother comes in direct contact with a broken or split pill, but no evidence showing that such problems may come indirectly by the father taking the pills. I keep my pills far away from where my wife will be, and she knows not to come near them. I even wash my hands after taking them, just as a precaution. We just make sure that my wife does not come in direct contact with them. As I have posted in another place here, we were trying to have a baby for years and couldn't. My wife finally got pregnant about 4 months after I started taking finasteride. We have had no problems and have seen no bad side effects.

If your looking for a doc in Az, I would definitely have a consultation with Dr. Keene. I've read alot of good things about her. I went with another doctor, but she was towards the top of my list and seems to be in your geographic area. Best of luck to you.

If you are not completely bald and have some existing hair, most good doctors will try to imitate (or match) the direction and style of the existing hairs. Thus they try to give you what mother nature did, or as close as possible. If your slick bald then it is more difficult to imitate mother nature. Alot of times doctors will look at your old pictures and talk about style with you.

How's the recovery coming? Now it's just waiting time. One thing I wanted to ask - So why just 650 FUs. Is your hair loss pretty minor? 150 free FUs is pretty nice. I paid for 2000 and got about 300 more for free. I was happy about that too. The waiting is the hardest part.

I used to use a piece and I imagine that Hair Club or another hair system place will cut your hair, but they will most likely charge you an arm and a leg to do it. Just be aware of that when you go in there, and, when you call, ask about price. My mom went to beauty school when she was younger and always cut my hair, and taught me the basics of cutting hair, so I have cut my own hair for years. The back was somewhat dificult to do at first, but now it's a snap. If you decide that you want to go to a hair system place, I'd look in the phone book and call around. Usually the smaller, non-chain places will give you a better deal (like I said before Hair Club and Apollo will most likely charge alot).

How many grafts are you basing that price on? I know that Lehr will beat any price by 10%, just look on his website. I got my procedure done at $2.70 per FU. I also know that H&W will drop their price (although they are not upfront about it like Lehr is). Like I mentioned earlier, before I had my procedure done, a sales guy from H&W responded to my email saying that they would match Lehr's $3 per graft. If H&W say they will match Lehr's price, email it to Lehr and he should do it for 10% cheaper. Negotiating is a good tool to use, as long as you are only doing it with good doctors. Best of luck to you.

Don't forget that Dr. Lehr will beat anyone's price by 10 percent. Use that to your advantage. I talked H&W down to $3 per FU, but still decided to go with Lehr. That means that I paid less than $3 per FU. Yes, I did have to pay for my flight, but I found one for pretty cheap (just book ahead of time). I didn't have to pay sales tax. I also had a great procedure done at an unbeatable price.

Dr. Lehr rocks! I am now at 6 months post-op, and happy about the results. I was planning on waiting until 8 months to talk about the results, but I can't wait any longer. I'll post some pictures in the following weeks so you can see the results. I consider Lehr to be a top doc. I read everything I could about the guy before I had the procedure done, and only found good things about him. The only somewhat negative thing that I have ever (ever) read about him is from Smoothy - who thinks he doesn't have enough experience yet - BUT that was a decade ago (when Smoothy saw him). I think that by now (a decade later) he has enough experience. Besides, he trained under Norwood, who had tons of patients going to him, I doubt that anyone received more training than Lehr did. I also read about him being invited to those training labs (or whatever they are called) with the other top docs (i.e. - Shapiro). Why? Because he's good.

Once again, I think he did a great job and would definitely recommend him. From the many posts I've seen, I'd recommend H&W too, and some other docs. Personally though, if I can get great results either way (from several different great doctors), I'd save some money and head for Oklahoma. One of the things that impressed me the most about Lehr is that he is straight forward about everything. Do a consult with him and ask alot of questions. The important thing is that you feel comfortable about your decision. When you do the consult, let Dr. Lehr know that Foxlox from Utah recommended him, he'll know who I am.

I used a piece for 3 years, and wouldn't recommend it. YOu have way too much hair to go that route - you would hate it. Get on the meds, and if anything, you can use DermMatch if your hair looks thin to you. DermMatch won't lower your temples, but it will make your hair look thicker.

  13. You can find the instructions on DermMatch's website: www.dermatch.com . Play around with it a little before you are actually going to go out in public with it, because it takes some getting use to using it. I like to put it on really quickly, let it dry (or blow dry it), and then jump in the shower to get the excess off. I then have a hand towel (dark color) that I use to dry it off. It works good for me.
