  1. topical Minoxidil Nonresponder How can I know if topical Minoxidil is working when I've just started using it after a hair transplant for the very first time? It's worth noting that it apparently only works for approximately 6 out of 10 people.
  2. In simple terms, I'm worried that Minoxidil might not work for me. The issue is, I've had a hair transplant, so I can't really tell if it's doing anything. It's frustrating to think I could use it for a while without knowing if it's effective as I've never used it before in my life.
  3. Just to clarify, my doctor told me that there's some thinning in my donor area. That's why I shared the picture, although it was taken at the hair salon, lol. The rest of my hair has wax and volume spray on it, so it doesn't always look this good.
  4. Minoxidil after Hairtransplant - How to tell if it is working? Just to give you some background, I'm a 37-year-old guy with a Norwood 2/3 hairline and some thinning in my donor area. I've been on Finasteride for two years, which has helped me stop losing hair, but I haven't seen much regrowth. I recently had a hair transplant, and now I'm thinking about trying topical Minoxidil. I've heard it can help about 50% of guys. But how can I determine if it will work for me, especially after a hair transplant? The challenge is that the transplant itself is expected to enhance my hair, making it difficult to distinguish topical Minoxidil's impact. I'm considering two options and would like to hear your opinions: 1. Should I wait a year to see the full results of the hair transplant before trying topical Minoxidil? The advantage is that I can see if topical Minoxidil works on its own, but I might miss out on benefits for both the transplanted and existing hair. 2. Or, should I start using topical Minoxidil now, about four weeks after the transplant, to maybe get the best results? The downside is that it's tough to tell if it's topical Minoxidil or the transplant that's working. I'd appreciate your thoughts on these choices.
  5. 4 weeks post Hairtransplant - Go on Minoxidil? I am 37 years old and have had a receding hairline since I was a teenager. It got a bit worse over the years. I've been taking Finasteride since I was 35 to help slow down the hair loss, and I recently had a successful hair transplant. My doctor recommended using Minoxidil, but I have some questions: 1.) If I start using Minoxidil in 2023, see good results by 2026, but then stop using it, will my hair go back to how it would have been if I never used Minoxidil in the first place, or could it get even worse? 2.) If I use Minoxidil on and off, could this cause more permanent hair loss than if I never used it at all? 3.) Since I had a hair transplant, if I start using Minoxidil about four weeks after the surgery, is there a risk that the transplanted hairs could become dependent on it, and I might lose them if I stop using Minoxidil after a year? Im asking because Ive heard of doctors recommending going on Minoxidil at least for the first 6 months after surgery..? I really appreciate any advice you can provide on these questions.
  6. Dear Dr. Rahal, Thanks for responding! I am currently 37 years old and have been dealing with a receding hairline since my teenage years. The progression has been remarkably gradual; I maintained a Norwood 2 pattern from my early 20s until my early 30s. However, I now classify myself as a Norwood 2/3. Starting at the age of 35, I have been consistently taking Finasteride at a daily dosage of 1.25mg. While I have not noticed any significant changes in terms of new hair growth, I believe that Finasteride has contributed to stabilizing my hair loss to a certain degree. Recently, I underwent a successful hair transplant procedure conducted by Dr. Turan, primarily focusing on my hairline and temples. During the procedure, Dr. Turan noted signs of miniaturization on my scalp, emphasizing the importance of continuing Finasteride indefinitely. Subsequently, I have contemplated introducing Minoxidil into my hair care regimen, despite my previous reluctance due to its daily application requirement (I prefer not to use oral-Minoxidil.). However, I still have several questions and concerns about topical Minoxidil, especially given the contradictory information I have encountered online. Here are my specific queries: If I start using Minoxidil in 2023, see good results by 2026, but then stop for any reason (like cost or greasiness), will my hair go back to how it would have been if I never used Minoxidil in 2023 or 2026? - or even WORSE? If I start and stop Minoxidil on and off, could this cause more permanent hair loss than if I never used it? Given my recent hair transplant, if I start Minoxidil four weeks post-surgery, is there a risk that the transplanted hairs could become dependent on it, and I might lose them if I stop Minoxidil after a year? I deeply appreciate your expertise and guidance on these matters. Your insights are invaluable to me, and I am grateful for your assistance.
  7. I'm contemplating starting Topical Minoxidil. I've been on Finasteride for two years and recently underwent a hair transplant for my hairline and temples. My goal is to use minoxidil to maintain the density of hair on my crown. I've done some research on the half-life of Minoxidil, and it seems that using it once a day can also be effective. I'm considering purchasing the foam version, as it might serve as a replacement for my styling mousse. Now, here's my question: Does anyone here use Minoxidil in the following manner? Sometimes, you apply it twice a day, and other times, you apply it once a day, but you always apply it at least once a day without skipping. Is this an acceptable approach, or should I stick to either once or twice daily consistently? I'm thinking that using it twice a day might ensure better coverage across my scalp, increasing the chances of getting the product to all the crucial areas at least once a day. On the other hand, when using it only once a day, it's essential to be meticulous about reaching all the important areas during that application. Reasons why I ask is because I could imagine myself applying it mostly twice but sometime only once like when I'm tired in the evening etc. Will this back and forth be a problem? What are your thoughts on this?
  8. We live in different countries, yet im curious. How much did it cost you to do all the SMP down there? Also, do you know how much donor you have left?
  9. Thanks for the clarification. Going to copy and paste what you wrote in my notes!
  10. Interesting... At the 03:50 mark, this doctor points out that some patients may develop a tolerance to finasteride over time.
  11. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Just keep in mind that your increased sensitivity to DHT might not have been solely because of finasteride. It's possible that your genes became more active over time, which made it harder for finasteride to completely stop the issue.
  12. Is there any truth to this? Und the FAQ "Is the Dose of Finasteride the Same for Everyone?" .... they write "That said, after 5 years or so, finasteride seems to be less effective and doctors often increase the dose a bit. The next step-up is generally to take 1/3 of a 5mg pill each day." https://www.bernsteinmedical.com/medical-treatment/answers/
  13. Here's an expert who often posts YouTube videos on this subject. He says that Minoxidil can lose its strength over time. I'd like to find more information and studies about this."
  14. Thanks, Melvin. To clarify, I'm not making any personal claims here. I've been researching online, including reading comments on YouTube, and I've come across a lot of information about Minoxidil. I understand that much of it may be anecdotal or unreliable, which is why I'm reaching out to experts here. My interest lies in understanding the long-term effects of using Minoxidil as a standalone treatment, without combining it with Finasteride (to get an objective view). I'm seeking studies or documented cases that can provide insights into what happens when people use Minoxidil over an extended period. I want to emphasize that I don't easily buy into unsupported myths. In fact, I personally take 1.25mg of Finasteride daily and have experienced no side effects. My decision in taking it was based on my own research and understanding, free from external bias. To sum it up, I'm keen to learn if there are any credible studies or documented experiences of individuals who have used Minoxidil alone for an extended period and what outcomes they have encountered.
  15. Does Minoxidil stop working after a while? I'm confused by conflicting information. I've been using Finasteride for two years, which has slowed down my hair loss but hasn't made new hair grow. Now, I'm thinking about trying topical minoxidil, but I'm worried it might not work as well after around seven years. Should I wait until my hair loss gets worse, or should I start using it now while it's not so bad? I'm wondering if Minoxidil loses its effectiveness over time, and if that's the case, should I save it for later? Are there any studies that look at how well Minoxidil works over the long term?
  16. But this genetic test really really exist. Google it. I'm just thinking that this website is selling a fake Produkt. The legit Produkt only ship to the USA so looking for a product that ships internationally
  17. I've heard there are many fake products out there. Do you know any trustworthy links on Hair Restoration Network for buying it online?
  18. May I ask where you got the SMP done? Only in the donor area? I have dirty blonde hair... is SMP not recommended for hair like mine? I dont think I have a problem though. Just fresh out from Hairtransplant and happy with the whole thing so far. Donor area looks okay. Just thinking for the future... Like where do you get the SMP and is this expensive?
  19. seriously? Three-to four months? Where did you hear this figure? Seems like a long time
  20. Thanks I'm going to do that! Do you know any good online websites selling Minoxidil? It is not widely available here in Switzerland.
  21. Thank you for the clarification! Just to ensure I grasp the situation correctly: I had a hair transplant three days ago, and during the procedure, the doctor noticed a significant number of miniaturized hairs on my scalp, despite my two-year use of finasteride. Could it be that finasteride is preventing these miniaturized hairs from falling out, and I can retain them with its help (am I understanding this correctly)? Now, if I were to start using minoxidil, it might potentially thicken and strengthen these miniaturized hairs, which sounds great. However, if I were to discontinue minoxidil at some point, would I then lose all of these hairs ( finasteride can no longer help with those) ..... correct? So, in essence, would it be wiser to stick with finasteride alone to retain my smaller hairs, rather than risk using minoxidil, which could grow them but potentially lead to their loss upon discontinuation?
  22. How long is it safe to pause my Finasteride medication? How long is it safe to pause my Finasteride medication without experiencing shedding and hair loss? I'm curious because there are instances when I forget to take it or run out of my supply. This has always been on my mind.
  23. Minoxidil response tests I came across information online about the availability of Minoxidil response tests, which are genetic tests designed to determine whether an individual will respond positively to Minoxidil treatment. Unfortunately, most of the products I found online only offer shipping within the USA. However, I did manage to find a website that sells the test kit and offers international shipping at this link: minoxidilresponsetest.in Has anyone here had any experience with this website? Is it reputable, or should I be cautious? The test kit is priced at approximately 70 euros.
  24. After consistently taking Finasteride for approximately 2.5 years, I observed some modest hair regrowth in my crown area, though not strikingly noticeable. Unfortunately, my hairline and temples remained largely unaffected despite this duration of use. While it's possible that Finasteride has at least halted further hair loss, it hasn't shown significant improvements in these key areas. Recently, I underwent a hair transplant procedure performed by Dr. Turan, focusing on my hairline and temples. Dr. Turan noted signs of hair miniaturization on my scalp, reinforcing the importance of continuing Finasteride, a decision I had already intended to make. However, this development has prompted me to reconsider the addition of Minoxidil to my regimen. I've never used Minoxidil before, largely due to my reservations about the commitment it requires, as it necessitates daily application (oral Minoxidil is not an option for me). The reason I haven't started with Minoxidil thus far is the multitude of lingering questions and the conflicting information I've encountered online. Here are my primary concerns: 1.) I've heard that Minoxidil doesn't prevent hair loss but merely extends the anagen (growth) phase. What's the rationale behind using it, then? Does this mean that eventually, hair loss is inevitable, and it's merely a matter of delaying the inevitable? 2.) If I were to commence Minoxidil in 2023 and continue until 2026, achieving positive results, but then decide to discontinue it for various reasons (e.g., cost or greasiness), would my hair revert to its hypothetical 2023 or 2026 state or even WORSE state had I never initiated Minoxidil use? 3.) Is there any risk of exacerbating hair loss by discontinuing and restarting Minoxidil at intervals, for whatever reasons?
  25. Hairtransplant - Dr Turan I recently underwent a hair transplant procedure performed by Dr. Turan, and I'd love to hear your thoughts! Originally, I had intended to address my receding hairline and thinning temples. However, during the consultation, Dr. Turan identified some bald spots on the top of my head and recommended adding 150 grafts in that area. In total, I received 2394 grafts. I have a question for the experts in this community. I came across information online suggesting that hair transplants might not be the ideal solution for 'diffuse hair thinning.' This led me to ponder the additional grafts on the top of my head. Nevertheless, I have complete trust in Dr. Turan, and from what I understand, these grafts were strategically placed to address the bald spots. He utilized the DHI method for their implementation. Please find attached my 'before the hair transplant' photos as well as the photos taken on the 'day of the hair transplant' for your reference.
