  1. Hey all, I've been balding for a while now and currently on propecia for 6 months. While the medicine seems to be working I've been shedding like crazy. Many people i've talked to taking the drug have mentioned going through a short shedding period, lasting a few weeks. Unfortunetly, i've been shedding heavily for 6 months now! The dermatologist said I had telogen effluvium. It is a condition that is often caused by emotional or physical stress. The problem is, I don't have any recognizable emotional stress in my life right now. I've been tested for thyroid conditions but everything came out normal. The only stress i can think of is heavy drinking. I'm a college kid and have a tendecny to binge drink at least 2 times a week. I was wondering if this could be the cause of my shedding? If anyone has any info PLEASE help. Im desperate to stop losing hairs. Thanks! ANkur

  3. Hey all, I've been on propecia for 6 months now and continue to shed hairs like crazy. Unlike most people who seem to shed only for a week, my shedding has persisted for at least 6 months. My dermatologist said I had telogen effluvium, a condition where a high percentage of hairs are in the resting phase. This condition is often caused by emotional or physical stresses. I was wondering if excessive alcohol consumption could be the cause of this problem? If anyone has any info or opinions on this I'd really appreciate it. Watching my precious hairs literally go down the drain is causing me a lot of anxiety. Please help! Thanks! Ankur

  5. Hi everyone, I've been on propecia for 6 months now. Betweens month 3 and 6 I thought things were looking good. My hairline on the right side didn't seem like it was receeding anymore and the left side seemed fine. Unfortunelty, i've began to notice that my left side has receeded quite a bit since Febuary. Althought it hasn't gone back by much, it is a noticable difference. Did anyone else for whom propecia eventually stoped hair loss notice hair loss between months 3-6? I know you can't really tell if the medicine is working until months 9 and 12, but they do say you should see a slowdown in hair loss. I can't really tell if this loss occured more slowly then it would have had i not been on the medicine. Thanks for everyones' help.

  7. I noticed increase shedding after I started taking propecia. I became concerned when the shedding ceased to stop. My dermatologist diagnosed the condition as Telegen Effluvium. It's a form of hair lose that occurs all over the head, unlike male pattern baldness which only occurs in precise areas. I'm still experiencing this intesne type of hair lose, although propecia has seemed to stablilize the patterned lose (been on for 4 months). Don't know if my post helps. If any other people have experienced this problem i'd love to hear about it and see how things turned out for you. Ankur Fan
  8. What's up y'all? I've been on propecia now for 3 months and continue to shed hairs like crazy. I visited the dermatologist and he said I had the condition telegen effluvium as well as male pattern baldness. Did anyone else have this problem? I've had this problem for some time , probably for 2 months now. I don't have any serious stresses in my life that would contribute to such extensive hair loss. The doctor told me to come back if things didn't improve in 6 months. Thanks. Ankur

  10. Hey MikeScott, How long were you taking hair loss drugs? And after you stoped, were you able to have normal erections again? I'm concerned about the longterm effects of Propecia. If the medication doensn't work, I don't want to find out a year from now that I can never have normal erections. I mean Propecia says that people who stop therapy regain normal sexual function, but Im skeptical of this claim. I say this because of Propecia's claim that less then 2 percent of users suffer any sexual side effects, but it seems that most people on this board, including myself, have suffered some kind of side effect. I feel that not everyone in the 2 percent group can be part of this board. Im probably over reacting to the whole thing. As you can imagine, losing your hair and and ability to have sex at 22 is VERY scary. I mean appearance and sexual ability are everything to young folk such as myself (and the old as well). Anyway, tahnks for all your help guys. Scared Sh*tless, Ankur
  11. Thanks for the advice guys. I was reading over the report that comes with Propecia and it said that the sexual side affects go away in most people. Wondering if anyone experienced this.
  12. Thanks for the reply man. It's a comforting to know that other people are dealing with the same issue. My only other problem with the medicine is that I'm still shedding like crazy, even after 2 months. I heard this problem persist through the third month of therapy. With all hope my hairs will stay on my head instead of falling into the shower drain. Keeping my fingers crossed, ANkur
  13. Been on Propecia for 2 months and I've began to notice a change in my ability to maintain an erection. I'm quite alarmed by this since I'm only 22. At this age, I feel, a gust of wind should be enough motivation for my soldier to "take up arms." I have been a little stressed by relationship issues, but I'm not sure if this is the reason. Granted I've only noticed this problem when by myself, but I'm not sure what will happen when I'm intimate with a woman. I have had problems like this in the pass when I've been stressed over school and such. I assumed it was stress related. But this seems different in that this phase has lasted a little longer (about 1.5 weeks). Did anyone else have this problem with propecia? I don't want to resort to using viagra at such a young age. I'd rather lose my hair than be known as the guy who couldn't get it up. I'd really appreciate any input. Happy New Year!!
  14. What's up y'all? I've been on Propecia now for 2 months. Before I went on the medication, my hair would fall out when I ran my fingers through my hair. When I washed my hair, I'd find many hairs clinging to my fingers. After 2 months on the medicine I'm still having this problem. Shouldn't the shedding have stopped by now? I'm a little concerned that the medicine may not be working. My hair loss isn't extensive. A little thinning at the crown (barely noticable) and recession in the front. I'm concerned because i'm fairly young (22). My friends who have a complete set of hair have not experienced any shedding. Thanks for you help everyone!
