  1. Solid,

I'd be careful of any activity that causes tension in your donor region. If you can do deadlifts and squats with no "tugging" feeling in your donor area then you should be fine.

I found that sprinting, jumping, and bench pressing where I strained with my head pressed into the bench causes alot more donor tension than real heavy deadlifts & squats.

Just be careful or any activity that puts noticeable tension on your scar.

  2. I had a lot of shedding from around week 8-13 (maybe 60 hairs lost while showering & combing and lots of hairs on pillow). After that the shedding stopped and all was back to normal (maybe 10-20 hairs lost during showering and combing).

Another note, I started back on Rogaine5% on day 2 after surgery. Your shedding may have something to do with the 6 week Rogaine layoff too.

  3. Moises, please be aware that there are versions of minoxidil 5% (certain types of xandrox) that have different ingredients that may not irritate your head. check minoxidil.com

You could also look into folligen or tricomin to deal with itch issues.

  4. I'd use Rogaine 5% also. I use Kirkland Minox 5% which is alot cheaper (about $8/month).

Some people will disagree and say that Rogaine made them shed or makes their scalp itchy. Both of these circumstances are possible but it works great for me.

Also, Rogaine is a treatment that you should stay on indefinitely. There are studies that show that if you use Rogaine for a long time and then stop the treatment, you will rapidly lose all the hair you gained with it (often a significant amount) and sometimes more. If this site allowed links to outside information I would provide specific studies. Message me if you need more information.

Random info. There are several studies that show that Rogaine 5% grows significantly more hair than Propecia (though Minox technically does nothing to "stop" the progression of hair loss).

The 5 year propecia study shows a 277 hair difference (in a 1 inch diameter circle) between the propecia group and the placebo group after 5 years. That seems unbelievable but that's what the study says.

  5. Propecia- regrows some hair and prevents or slows future hair loss.

Propecia is about $40-$50/month as you know. You can also get Proscar for the same price but divide up each Proscar tab. Proscar is a 5mg version of propecia.

Rogaine- promotes hair growth ("an additional offset of growth") but really doesn't prevent future hair loss like Propecia does.

Generic Rogaine is about $7-$8 /month. The real stuff is about $25-$30 /month

Rogaine does help a HT grow faster.

I recommend both. But if nothing else, you should at least stay on propecia. I think some people exaggerate the side effects. Consider a side effect of NOT taking it...you will lose more hair!

  6. I was told to avoid exposing the recipien area to the sun 6 months after my hair transplant. I'm going to the beach this summer and don't want to wear a hat *ALL* the time. Is it ok if I just use some high-spf spray sunscreen on the recipient area and have my head uncovered at times?
