I had been on Finasteride and OM for a while but after being inconsistent with fin during a recent live for 6 weeks I lost a shocking amount of hair in a 2 week period from early to mid Feb. not sure where it is at now. Been back on medicine consistently for 3-4 weeks now but I can still see miniaturizing hairs coming out when I run my hands through my hair, especially in the shower.  Will I continue to lose hair or can I expect to regain some of what I have lost?

I am looking to get a HT to lower the corners of my hairline. Located in Midwest and considering bloxham, Panine in Chicago, and Nader in Cleveland.  I also saw a local clinic called we grow hair Indy but I was skeptical of their marketing techniques.

Bloxham quoted 600 grafts per side as a rough estimate for 1200 total. Local clinic said 2000 hairs but they were trying to play up this multi unit grafting procedure and I was skeptical since it kind of sounded like old hair plugs.

does anyone have experience with these three doctors? If so who would you recommend? How many grafts would you estimate are necessary? I have attached the hairline design proposed by the consultant from the local clinic. Dry hair in clinic pictures and wet hair in the others.

If I was 27 years old and had the amount of hair that you have, I would just stay on the meds, if you're not getting sides, and wait and see if your hair loss progresses. You have a lot of hair. If the meds stop your hair loss, I'd be happy with what you've got. Just my 2 cents.

A quick update on my case. I read a lot of msges here that its not related etc. Well im off the fin since Apr. 2023. I dont use any medication atm and i can confirm that my overall state improved. Much less foggy , more motivated. Overall mood is better too. Additional thing is that my semen became thicker. When i was on fin it was kinda watery. Downside : i shed a bit, so my hair is not that thick anymore, but its manageable. Happy New Year everyone !

Glad to hear you're doing better. A hair transplant surgeon that we're not supposed to mention here said he has seen patients have the exact same thing happen to them after years of finasteride use in a YouTube video. Just don't tell Kevin Mann.

honestly i think back then times were a lot tougher. maybe it was survival of the fittest, the stronger genes were passed on. for a long time we've been weak and the weakness has been allowed to thrive and pass imperfect genes on. it seems in general we've got a lot more disease and illness too. possibly from more toxins and pollution etc - or you could argue that we're just better at diagnosing now. but then you could argue we're over medicated because of that.

another argument is that we're having babies way too late in life - having babies in our 30's is known to be worse for their health, waaay more health problems and likelyhood of developmental issues, autism, etc. Back then they were pumping out kids in their teenage years or early 20s at most, when people were in peak health. Not sure about everyone else but now its an affordability issue to be able to have kids at all, let alone when you're 35. If you have them at 20 without rich parents you've basically signed a contract that you might be struggling for money most if not all of your life.

when it comes down to it this is such a complex topic and no one knows why, its all conjecture

My parents were both 19 when I was born. I still have MPB.

    Hello

So I've been considering hair transplant for while now. But been put of because of finasteride  the side effects it causes.

I have been losing hair for over 20 years now, I'm 37 now. It has slowed down over time.

I went to local doctor got prescription for finasteride tablet and minoxdil liquid. After taking 4 tablets of finasteride 1 ml every second day, I noticed side effects, then I stopped it.

So my question is, should I do hairtransplant without taking the medication such as finasteride and minoxidil?

You took 4 tablets of finasteride every 2 days? Am I reading that right?

If you have a depressing life anything can trigger you to be suicidal.

What they should be spending their time on is investigating the quality of finasteride generics.

I used generic Finasteride for many years and it would bring me down/crash me despite using a lower dosage. I switched to Propecia because I couldn’t find generics in a different country and was blown away. I couldn’t feel anything. I remember and this is so funny, I kept looking at the packet of Propecia few hours later wondering if I had taken it and one missing tablet was staring at me. I was surprised why I wasn’t feeling horrible and wondered if I had taken the drug. I then started thinking maybe this is fake, but then thought how can they fake Propecia and I bought it from a reputable store.

I only use brand name Propecia now and avoid generics like the plague. I would go so far as to say many people would probably have less or no sides if they switched to brand name. Who knows what they put in generic, maybe the drug in impure condition causes more sides, who knows I am not a chemist.

Generic finasteride gave me insomnia/anxiety, and I've wondered if taking actual Propecia would not give me these sides.

I am going to have to disagree with you guys on this one. I agree the goal of hair transplant is to have coverage and would rather grow it out and have full coverage, but there are some men who lose their front and keep crown and some men loose crown and keep front. If you look at Melvins last procedure even with his head shaved all the way down right before transplant his transplanted frontal third frames his face and looks great head on. He looks better with transplanted stubble rather than no hair to frame his face. Just my opinion.

I'd be interested in seeing people who do this if there are any

    Hi all,

I've been on 1mg finasteride for a while (15 years) and have been seriously considering a transplant. However, a recent fertility test revealed that I have a low sperm count, poor motility, and a high number of abnormal forms.  I was aware that finasteride can affect fertility so I wasn't surprised by the results.  My concern, is the possibility that these effects could be permanent, so I paused the medication. It's been 3 weeks since I stopped and I'm contemplating a 60-day break followed by another fertility test.

Am I correct in saying that hair loss will effectively start to some degree within a few days of stopping but it is unlikely I will notice any changes until somewhere between 6-12 months?
Is this statement wrong and I will not experience hair loss after stopping for 60 days?
Am I doing the right thing or should I try lowering the dose to .25mg instead of completely stopping?

    Would appreciate anyone's thoughts/advice.

Are you trying to have a kid?

They probably have allotted time to do consultations where they would otherwise be doing surgery and getting paid. It's reasonable to expect compensation for their time and service, especially if they're examining you in person. I know hair loss influencers that charge for consultations, as insane as that sounds.

Yeah, I know of one too. I made a post about him awhile back, lol.

You're spending thousands of dollars on surgery. Yes, it is worth paying for consultations. Most surgeons who charge for consultations discount that amount from the surgery if you choose them. To me, its a no-brainer.

That's a good point, but if I'm having consultations with multiple surgeons, I'm only going to be choosing one of them. I still don't understand why some charge and some don't. Thanks for your feedback.

quick update, and to be clear this is more or a trial and error situation. I will be taking a break from topical dut due to extremely dry eyes leading to vision issues. Unfortunately I don't know what to attribute it to and have to consider anything recent that can be the cause.  The one thing for sure is that if it is the topical dut, it would not be a nocebo effect as eye health was not ever on my radar, only the sexual side effects of these meds. Again, and not to be overly repetitive but as of now I am NOT attributing to Xyon but have to be sure as vision is not something I want to mess with. Will be also scheduling a full eye exam.

Yep, definitely not nocebo if it's a side effect you weren't even aware of. Had the same thing with finasteride giving me insomnia.

    hi Guys

I have been wearing a toupee for a while now and kinda sick of it, so I start reading some info about hair transplants etc, however... it seems like I'm a norwood scale 7 and also have g6pd deficiency, with that said some doctors doesn't want to operate because I don't have enough hairs in the donor area and others because of my g6pd.

Anyone else with similar experience and how did you fix it? (if it's possible of course)

    thanks in advance

ps: I hope I posted this in the right section
