  1. yskhleif - I am one of the cheerleaders that you so often question. I have not gone anywhere and still visit this forum a couple of times a week.

Now to blow away some of your theories. I put my money where my mouth is - so much so that I have just this week spoken to Taner and booked another HT at Transmed. Only happy customers go back mate !!!

For me my expectations were realistic. I read the posts by SPEX and others and knew day 1 that being a Norwood 4, and not having a mega megasession like they do at Hasson and Wong by getting 5000 plus grafts, I would need a second HT. In my first, my Surgeon explained the level of density he was going for as we were targetting covering. In HT two , I am going for Density. As for photos, I said I would after the full result, its a personal choice, no obligation.

You have been on this forum nearly two years now. Time to make a decision I would say, but the decision is all yours. For me, I went to Transmed 11 months ago and experienced a proffesional clinic and team and was well looked after from the moment I set foot on Turkish soil with a driver waiting for me at the airport with my name ( you kinda feel special then ! ).

I am going back to see some old friends that I trust with this very delicate procedure.

I had a HT using FUT with Transmed last May - I had 3172 grafts.

I am early forties, around Norwood 3/4 and like you tried stuff such as Propecia and Regaine with minimal results. Then I tried Dutas which is a generic but that was not great either. Then discovered AVODART - those tell tale hairs in the shower cubicle and on the comb have virtually stopped.

Once stabilised , I decided to gain what I lost - so I went for a HT. Gone 10 months and come on nicely. Scar has healed very well. Crown a little slower then the hairline but they say that is common.

Do a search for my posts where I have described my experience.

ps - I went to Transmed and it cost me about ??160 for flights, accomodation, food etc...so dont let distance put you off.

  3. Does it make any difference how much testerone in your veins ???

Hair does not shed due to testerone, it sheds due to a DHT, ( derived rom testerone ) which I guess is what your Genes influence. Some genes make lots of DHT and so don't and some people have loadsa hair some dont !

That being the case - all boxers and wrestlers and athletes would be bald as they take protein shakes - often whey.

  4. Hi Batel2006,

I am from the UK and had my FUT at Transmed in Turkey in May 2009.

Just gone past 8 months and so far satisfied but waiting the full 12 months for the final result. Also, the scar is a thin pencil one they describe. Be careful with the non-recommended clinics, who might appeal financially but can leave hideous wide scars and poor growth and naff hairlines.

Like you, I had limited budget. Transmed were the most cost effective of the recommended on this forum - charging 1.8 euro per graft.

There are some who charge around the same in the UK as Transmed but lots of negative stuff is on the net about them.

Farjo are probably the best in the UK but prices are more than Transmed.

Easy jet charge around ??80 pound and hotels in Istanbul start around ??30.

My view I will pay ??150 travelling expenses and go to Istanbul- and save a few thousand on the recommended UK and Europe clinics.

Search under MOP for a detailed write-up of my experience.

I would say that I passed 6 month mark in November and they say you get 50 to 60 % growth so I feel I am on track. I think I posted that I would do a before and ater shot rather than monthly updates.

I too saw the Woody experience and was shocked. My own scar is vitually undetectable on the left and middle section, on the right side, there is a 1 - 2 mm linear scar but well hidden in the dense doner hair.

There have been a few of us down to Transmed so there will be some more case studies for longer term patients, ie 6 to 12 months.

Just have to join us in being patient.

  6. It is critical that HT patients to NOT engage in masturbation so soon after the procedure.

Scientific evidence has shown that grafts need a steady supply of nutrients in the critical few weeks so they take in the scalp.

Masturbation causes blood to be diverted to ones penis and key nutrients such as protein end up in tissue paper when in fact they should be used by the grafts.

SERIOUSLY - NO CHOKING THE CHICKEN FOR AT LEAST A MONTH !!!

  7. I think the best way to tell is time during placement.

For example, if 2000 grafts took a mere few hours start to finish then be worried ! If it took 4 - 6 hours then sounds better !

Other things is how many technicians were placing grafts - one or two or four ?

If you see the technician infront of you doing two grafts a min and there are four of them then you are getting approx 8 grafts per minute or approx 480 an hour. 2000 to place would take about 4 hours.

Not an exact science I know - but better than scab counting when the blood just merges together after multiple close incisions.

  8. Congratulations on your Hairtransplant.

Yes - your now the fourth Musketeer ! To venture to Transmed.

Glad the first three helped you make a good decision !

Now, the first ten days are a drag ! Wash carefully, you will have a strong desire to pick scabs - DONT - at Day 10 the grafts will be secure and you can gently rinse off in the shower. You may get swelling - I did - and I looked uglier than normal ! it subsides by day 4/5.

The staples come out so easy - I bought a staple remover off ebay for a few quid, but went to a skin clinic to a technician.

It may not feel like it now but in a few months time, you will see those little babies pop out and you will get a real warm feeling !

  9. I was wondering what the possible rate of extraction is per square Centimetre - theoretically if you had a 1mm punch , you could extract 100 grafts per Centimetre square ?

I know Surgeons take grafts from a wide area. Just wondering whats possible without shaving your entire hair off and you wanted to keep extraction zones on edge of your hairline, eg around the ears for example, and keep it discreet.

  10. yskhleif - I had my transplant with Transmed in May.

Not sure that everything above 2700 is free. What happens is you agree a figure after considering all the facts such as your goals, which you pay per graft. As strip is not an exact science, if they get 3000, the rest may be free.

Paying for 2700 and asking for 4000 is not something I think they do.

Transmed Webiste has a graft calculator, I would guess good coverage and density would mean 4 to 5k. Only a reasonable guess - try the calculator.
