  1. Yeah, you guys are right, I was mainly speaking from a place of disappointment, but to call this surgery a disappointment overall would be unfair to Dr. Ferreira. He did a great job. I just had really excessive expectations and a thin donor hair. Maybe the main take away from this thread people should take away is to have realistic expectations. I wish it was denser, but I'm also an obsessive perfectionist, and that's probably the main take away here. I would recommend Dr Ferreira to someone who was looking at a transplant, but I would also advise them to perhaps temper their dreams of super thick hairlines. I guess when you're going bald, this is as best as can be realistically expected in a single surgery. As far as the second one goes, I've decided to hold off for a few years. I have enough to "work with" currently, even if not as much as I would like. In a few years I can have the hairline thickened up, and also the crown and midscalp as well, as hair loss is a progressive condition and I'm sure I will slowly thin in the coming years.
  2. No flash on the last two pics. It's cool, I'm doing another surgery and I realize my disappointment is directly correlates to my expectations. Calling me spoiled is a pretty funny when it took me the better part of 3 years to save the money to this, but again, I understand a lot of you are in much worse positions. My hair is particularly thin so maybe that's why. Take my results for what they are and draw your own conclusions.
  3. Sure thing guys. I really feel zero need to defend myself here. The hairline density on the right side just isn't where I want it to be. Period. Again, Dr. Ferreira literally told me this was a distinct possibility, so I find it amusing you guys are so up in arms over a result Dr Ferreira specifically told me was possible. I'm not saying the surgery overall was a failure; it's undoubtedly an improvement. It's also not good enough for me. I don't want the entire right side of my hairline to be wispy and thin. I shouldn't have to comb the hair strategically and lock in it place in that position for the hairline to not be completely transparent to the scalp.
  4. Final result. Frankly, I am ultimately somewhat disappointed in how in this result has turned out. The hairline on the right side has not improved to where I wanted it to be, not even particularly close. When I apply hairspray, hair gel, and style the hair in a very specific manner, it looks *ok*. Without going through that very specific process of styling and holding at a very specific angle, it is extremely thin and see through to the point where I would not call it an aesthetically pleasing result. Compares to other people with similar levels of hairloss and received a similar number of grafts, I just don't feel like my result is up to par. That is the kind of result I wanted, and frankly I don't have it. Disappointment.
  5. Really? Am I the only one seeing this see-through scalp? I'm not saying it's a failure, but it could definitely be much better.
  6. Sorry about the late update guys, I didn't forget about you all! It's now been 10 months (+10 days but who's counting, right?). There's been some continued thickening on the right side, though not as much as I was hoping for. At this point, I'm pretty sure my original assessment of the surgery as a "double" in baseball terms was accurate. Could definitely be better in terms of density, but it could definitely be worse. I'm simultaneously happy with the overall procedure and my decision to get it, and also kinda a bit disappointed with the density up front. It is what it is though, and it's still and improvement without a doubt. A touch up/second pass should fill in the sparse areas up front. I also stopped bothering to edit out my face, since I did a half assed job anyways. Hi, anyone who recognizes me 👋
  7. Alright dudes, 8 months. Not much change obviously as it's only been two weeks. The good news is that after discontinuing the dry shampoo for a couple of weeks I can already feel the hair around my crown/mid-scalp "coming back to life" so to speak and feeling thicker than before, so that's good. Dry shampoo is never going in my hair again. The bad news is that the right side of my hairline is still quite a ways away from where I want it to be. I'm in a weird spot where, when wet and slicked back, it looks great, but once it dries and is styled it looks super thin and wispy. Still some months of improvement to go of course, and it's still quite a large improvement from where I was at at 6 months post-op, so hopefully I'm just a slow grower and the right side will continue to thicken up. Next set of pics are due to Dr. Ferreria at 9 months, so I'll be updating again then. Fingers crossed!
  8. Aw, you guys are gonna make me blush. I may have been premature in calling this a "double" and not a home run. Still a lot of time to mature. @pkipling You're right, and it's honestly only within the last couple of days that I've become comfortable to style my frontal hairline up without toppik/dermatch. It's thickening up nicely. I am too paranoid for my own good sometimes. @JoeManI was/am gonna get the crown done regardless because we didn't touch it last time, but depending on the maturation we could end up doing less of a touch of than I initially planned on, depending on how it turns out. You are right, the average person isn't gonna look at my hair with a fine tooth comb like I do. It looks great, Dr. Ferreira did a fantastic job. The problem is definitely my unrealistic and absurd expectations, definitely something I need to put into perspective.
  9. @Spaceguy I feel like it's getting better by the week at this point, so that's good. My results at 6 months were kind of lacking, so a lot of maturation in the hairline over the past ~7 weeks.
  10. "Dry shampoo is not supposed to be used as a daily routine. It's more to be used as a boost when you need it every once in a while. Washing should still be the preferred way to get it dryer. If you use daily and don't wash daily, it can cause some buildup. It may be that it caused breakage, if you used it for a while (especially combined with more products). So give it a few months without it and see if you recover." Well, credit to Dr. Ferreira for the quick response. Hopefully it grows back and I didn't just add a bunch of money to my next procedure 🙃
  11. Idk man, even with no flash I'm definitely still detecting to a thin patch, and again, it's right where usually spray my dry shampoo into my hair before combing it through. We'll see what Dr Ferreira says, but I'm starting to think I may have fucked myself over inadvertently in my quest for "poofy" hair.
  12. I've searched this board but I'm finding a dearth of information on dry shampoo and whether it can cause damage. Google is also giving me conflicting information, with some sources saying not to use it more than two days in a row, while others say it's fine as long as you wash it out and don't let it stay in for multiple days at a time (which I never do). Obviously, that's not a common area for mpb-related thinning to manifest, so I don't think it's my natural hair loss progression. I can't think of anything else BUT the dry shampoo that could be causing this. Does anyone have experience with dry shampoo damage? Any advice? I've obviously sent this to Dr. Ferreira but I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with dry shampoo and it's effects before, because I'm kind of in the dark with the lack of information here.
  13. OK guys, I'm stressing a bit here. So, I've been using dry shampoo as part of my daily hair routine for the past 4 or so months due to the extra volume it gives. I Well, the past couple of days for some reason I had been feeling like my hair wasn't as think when I ran my hands through it in the shower. No big deal, right? Well, I just took a picture of the side of my head and all of a sudden I'm noticing a huge amount of what looks to me like thinning and damage. And, no so coincidentally, it's right on the side of my hair where I usually spray the dry shampoo before coming it all the through way through my hair for the added "poof".
  14. @JoeMan 1 day, scheduled for September 22nd, which is a Thursday. If there is a minimum cost, he's never made it known to me. He seemed willing to proceed when I told him I wanted the crown done even though according to him that would only be 500-800 grafts. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a previous patient and he doesn't want to leave a job unfinished lmao, I'm really not sure. Between the 500-800 for the crown and a couple hundred for the hairline, I feel like we'll end up probably in the 1200ish range total grafts for the 2nd procedure, maybe a little more.
  15. Orlando, FL. I do like it! I can go out now without feeling the need to hide my hair behind a hat! It's a massive improvement. Just want more density at the front so I can style it up more confidently. I really don't like the scalp see-through when I style it up, it's just a lot more than I'm comfortable with and what my initial goals were. I know I'm being greedy compared to some guys situations on here, I realize this. @JoeMan crown pic @ML488 maybe this better illustrates what I mean? Still an improvement, but just too much scalp see-through and not enough density for me to be comfortable styling it up.
