Thank you Henry for your swift response and being so helpful.

I wish my hair is as thick as you. Mine is quite fine and I don't know I can cover it even with longer hair.

I'm my age is a lot older than you (I'm late 40s), I think I will most likely going for FUE. Did you use any of your beards for donor? I'm considering that but heard some commented that beards has shorter lifecycle than hair and may not grow as long.

Besides Dr Path, I also consulted Eugenix which their main selling point is FUE-DHI and Dr Ratchathorn from Absolute.Β

The other factor confused me is that Dr Path thinks that I need 2 sessions and both eugenix and Dr Ratchathorn think I'm good with only 1 session. (although all 3 clinics are aiming for 4000+ grafts).Β

I was told that I'm NW4/5 so I'm more coverage than you.

People should just use beard donor as a last resort. If the doctors say you still have enough donor hair in your scalp, use that first.Β Β

I didn't use beard hair in my transplant though, and regarding Dr Path saying you needed 2 sessions. I don't know the exact reasons and I'm just guessing here, but he might have just been going for the conservative approach, or it could also be that hes not as good with higher norwoods. I've seen people make that statement before in here.Β

I think it really just depends on the hair type and the when it comes to results with this proven doctors.

An FUE at your age is a little bit more favorable though since you are probably done balding, but i wouldn't be 100 percent sure about this, I've heard accounts of some people progressing in their 60s and 70s to higher norwoods.

It's important to note too that I'm maintining this hair with propecia and oral min. Medication is equally as important.

I just finished an online consultation with Dr Path, and am now torn between FUE alone or combined FUE/FUT. The combined technique will reduce the thinning on the donor area but I'm concerned on the scar, and pain during recovery.

Dear Henry, do you mind to show the picture of the scar as you are probably 8-9 months post surgery. Can you shed some light during the recovery, do you suffer much from pain and discomfort?

The scar completely eliminates the flexibility of choosing a shorter hair style, but it's basically a non issue if you choose to wear your hair longer. My scar didn't turn out great, i think it's a little to thick but Ill go Fut still if i had to do it all over again. I'll attach one very noticeable pic of it with my hair short and one now where i couldn't even find where it is

I chose Fut because one, i could still have a lot more donor hair in the future if i needed an ht, and two, dr. Path and his team specializes in the FUT technique.Β

In terms of recovery, the first month really is the worst of it. There was a little bit of pain in the first 2 days but nothing i couldn't handle, i didn't even take the pain killers he gave me after the first day. I can walk around no problem, but the worst of it is the anxiety of thinking about too much of the scar, not bending down too much, not lifting heavy or, after maybe 2 months i just didn't care.Β

  3. 6 monthsΒ

This is gonna be my last update for a while, I'm completely, 100 percent happy with my result, I only think about my hair in a positive way this time. It feels awesome. If you're a norwood 3 or 4 like me, don't hesitate, go for it, make sure it's with a reputable doctor though, and Dr Path and his equally awesome team have proven they can provide a good result for a norwood 3v like me.Β

    Good luck everyone.Β

    Singles: 393

    Doubles: 1000

    Triples and Quadruples: 1286

Total: 2679, hairs per follicle averaged 2.33 for a total of 6242 hairs.

You may have been cursed with the balding gene but you have been blessed by the follicle gods. It seems like a hair transplant was your destiny all along. Damn 6.2k hairs for 2.6k grafts, thats amazing, no wonder your results look incredible.Β

  5. I think if you trim your hairs on the side, you'll have a much better, much fuller looking head of hair. Just a suggestion.

I wouldn't really jump to any conclusions yet though sir. It does look pretty thin now but 5 months is still a lot of incoming hair growth, I've been watching time lapse videos of hair growth from people without hair transplants and let me tell you, the difference on the thickness and volume of their hair for any period of 5 months is amazing.

So even if there wasn't any new hairs sprouting for you at this point, those hairs that you already grown could still have a chance of thickening and blending in better with your native hair.

If it didn't improve though, i really think finding a hairstyle that's thinner on the sides and longer on top, would be your best course of action.Β

FUT is the best option for anyone who is going to lose a decent amount of hair. FUE looks thin and if a person does not plan correctly they will have no donors when they need a second HT. FUE is good for people with minimum hair loss, thats all.Β

To be fair though, some doctors can achieve the same amount of density with an FUE as they will with FUT. I've seen lots of cases where that was the case.

If I get some time I'll take some pictures in direct sunlight and post them. People often only post their best pictures (Flattering lighting/angles/sometimes even hair fibers in) on here and it's actually kind of a problem because it creates an unrealistic expectation for what HT's are capable of. Clinic posted results are useless too 95% of the time. I wish more guys were willing to post unflattering pictures side by side with their flattering ones so that people can better understand what they're diving into, but posters like that on here are relatively rare.Β

What's even worse are pictures of 3rd and 4th month post ht already looking like it has reached full density because of certain angles and lighting.

Guys come on this is not instagram, we want to inform and educate people, please show us your best and also worst possible angles and lighting when updating your own posts.Β
