  1. This is the response from HLC:

    The answer of doctor is
It looks like a very small area is affected, like 2-3 grafts at most, I hope it didn’t affect deeply but even if so , it is a small area and it can be touched up. They said I likely lost 2-3 grafts for sure but hopefully the surrounding area isnt damaged.

Not the best answer I was hoping for but nothing I can do about it now. I am also not clear if the doctor knew I am on day 18 when it happened.

While it’s certainly aggravating to hit your head and even more nerve-racking to see a little bit of blood, at 18 days postop, the only way to remove a transplanted hair with a follicle intact would be by undergoing another surgical procedure.  So you have nothing to worry about regarding losing a graft at this point.

    best wishes,

    Rahal Hair Transplant

Thanks everyone for all the replies. As everyone has said, the hair follicle likely didnt fall out.

Can the follicle get damaged though from a bad trauma and therefore not grow properly? I guess that would be my main concern

The grafts are well secured, they would need be surgically removed at this point. So no it definitely should be fine! 👍🏽

Strange but true, if anybody wants to increase the likelihood of hitting their head ? Get a hair transplant..

    Haha, true that.

This exactly. After Day 10 they are impossible to remove without medical intervention.

Still, I would be irrationally anxious about this just the same 😅

Understood that they are impossible to remove at this point, I was more worried that I could have damaged the new grafts and they will not grow in.  Obviously, It is impossible to say if they were damaged and will not grow back. I wont know for at least 6 months :(  I guess the good thing is it would be (hopefully) a max of 4-5 grafts that could be affected by this damage as the bloody area is quite small. I just hope the surrounding area isn't affected as I slammed my entire front of the recipient area into the headboard. :( :( :(

I am really disappointed in myself. I was extremely careful the first 2 weeks but have been more relaxed the past 2-3 days and this happens.

  4. Hi all, I was getting into bed and accidently smacked my head on the fabric covered head board of the bed.

I noticed a small red spot on my head when I went to the bathroom. It looks like it was bleeding but nothing was absorbed when I dabbed the wound, right after it happened. It is also hurting a little. Its Day 18 now after the HT, almost 3 weeks. Could i have damaged some grafts? :(

The first photo is extremely zoomed in.

  5. Hi all, tomorrow is 10 days for after my HT at HLC and super excited to finally get these scabs off my head.  However it seems as though there a many different methods on how best to remove the scabs and I was trying to get some good consensus on what to do here. According to HLC: "From the 10th day you can washing your new hair as usual. During washing gently rub with your fingertips in the growth direction of your hair so the crusts on the recipient area fall off."  They also recommended to use a gentle shampoo (sebamed) and apply the foam and massage for a minute or two to help get out the scabs.

I have also read people recommending to soak the hair in shampoo or conditioner for 30 minutes before starting to remove the scabs. Why conditioner over shampoo? Any difference at all?  Melvin also recommended this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpdmLGpju5w

My plan so far is to take a shower on low pressure to get the scabs wet, then use sebamed shampoo (since its ph 5.5) and let it soak for 20-30 minutes and slowly use fingertips to massage out the scabs.

    Some questions:

    - What method did you use?

    - Why conditioner over shampoo?

    - How easily do the scabs come off? Do I need to apply alot of pressure?

-Should I try to get all the scabs off on the 10th day or just get as many off as possible?

Thanks, I am a bit nervous about this.

    Cheers

Any chance you could just post some pictures of your hair combed completely back both wet and dry? Don't get me wrong, if you're not happy with the outcome, then I understand why you're going for a second HT and I'm not trying to call you out or say you shouldn't feel the way you do. But, it does seem to me that most of the photos you have posted have some sort of downlight above your head, your hair doesn't seem to be particularly styled either (you seem to go more for the more natural messy textured look) or you're just spreading the hair to show the weaknesses.

My point is that I don't think many hair transplants are going to provide fullness in these conditions - the hair is somewhat going in different directions and angles due to the messier style you have as it allows it to flop around and not all be layered together, if that makes sense, and once you add some downlighting into the mix, light is going to bounce off and show scalp.

Your 8 month update on page 4 for example doesn't seem to have any downlight and your hair looks solid and I see no scalp or density issues in those pics as a result. I would imagine in this style and just being outdoors or anywhere not directly under a light, it looks completely normal? Really I'm just wondering how it looks in say normal light stood by your window or something just combed back.

This is a great point, which I agree with. Your beginning photos of your temples show the clear bald spots. After that your photos are super hard to tell if you have a new hairline at the temples and how it actually looks. The only ones that give a decent idea are those recent photos of you on the airplane and i can see a clear hairline where there was none. Your hairstyle doesnt seem to lend a clear idea of your hairline. Trying combing it backwards so we can see it a bit.

Regardless you need to be happy and I am very curious what the response from HLC is. I am going to HLC very soon and would hope for a good response from them.

It looks like 2,000-2,500 grafts should be able to work for your case. I'd consult with other clinics. I'm not sure if it'd be worth it to ask the clinic you already spoke to for lesser grafts because maybe they wouldn't provide as satisfactory of an end result. There might be other surgeons out there who know how to do more with lesser grafts.

It is interesting as literally every clinic I went to, 2 in person, recommended between 2500-3000 grafts... how do I know if they are overharvesting?

A lot of it depends on where they are putting the hair line. Just a minor lowering can use up 1000 grafts.

    Interesting thanks for the info.

I think your hair loss is fairly obvious. Would a hair transplant improve your hair? Absolutely. Do you need a hair transplant? No. It is up to you, but I think you would look way better with a hair transplant.

Thank you! regardless I will start a low dosage of fin again too.

3000 seems a bit excessive. I would say NW5's and worse normally get 3000 grafts or so.

Maybe 2000 or so would be good? I recommend a conservative hairline.

Interesting, i consulted with several hair clinics in Germany and Turkey, The german one recommended about 2500 or so and most of the Turkish ones recommended 3000 or so. I went to a HLC consultation in person and this was their recommendation:

We calculate for your front hairline up to the middle area about 80 cm2 in total.

The front hairline area is about 40 cm2 and the middel part area is also about 40 cm2.

We recommend to transplant the fornt hairline with 50 density and the middel part area with 40 denstiy.

40cm2 with 50 density will need 2000 Grafts

40cm2 with 40 density will need 1600 Grafts

So in total we have surgery plan with about 3200 Grafts

it seems a bit high to me as well, but at the time I did know that was too much. Maybe they want to have a very thick hairline to match the rest of my head? Should I ask for less?

    Do you take any meds?

i took fin years back but stopped. I will probably start again. But the hairloss has already occurred now

It's all about your own personal satisfaction. No one needs a hair transplant, and an elective cosmetic procedure should in general be the last resort after exploring all alternatives.

You are definitely a candidate for a hair transplant if you decide to go down that point.

IMO you need to consider if the rewards of a hair transplant are worth the potential risks.

    thanks, I appreciate the advice.

do you think 3000 grafts is too much in my situation?

  10. Please keep us updated, I have my HT scheduled with HLC for next month.

Looking at your before and current photos, my only thought is that the hairline looks good but the temples are a bit thin still. You also have styled it in a way that makes it looks quite bad. Perhaps the density isnt what you expected? I dunno

Links cannot be posted here. But Google etc and you will find easily enough. Why are you particularly interested in that place ? Especially when you have so many better/proven choices available. As I mentioned you want someone who is just dedicated to hair transplants and a Drs involvement who has real results posted on forums such as this. This forum has been here for 20+ years and we have yet to see a single patient posted  result from the clinic you mentioned. Stick to the recommended ones and give yourself the best chance of a good result. Look at HLC results here by using the search function. Now they are a well proven clinic. We have plenty of patient posted full journeys.

Location is extremely convient for me, would require less time off work, etc. and my friends recommendations! But the lack of reviews that I could find is disconcerting as you said.

Linked below is a photo of my hair loss, I have been told I need 2.5-3k grafts for the frontal baldness and I have almost none in the back. I am 39 and took finesteraide for about 7 years in my late 20s = early 30s with mixed results. I did not really notice any difference while taking it and continued to lose my hair.  I will start taking it again very soon.

    I was quoted :

    Proaesthetic - 5000 Euro

Dr. Cinik (istanbul) - 2500 Euro

    Cosmetictica (Istanbul) - 2500 Euro

    HLC - 8000 Euro

    Thoughts?

You could consider Hattingen (Swiss) they are putting out seriously impressive work on a consistent basis. Or yes HLC both are better options. Can you show us pics etc and give more details of yourself ?

Thanks for your response! I'm 39 and have had thinning in the front for many years and now it is getting bad so I've decided to get a transplant. I will post photos later.

I was wondering if you had found any positive or negative reviews on the clinic i posted about?

I will look into the clinic you recommended as well.
