  1. Alright, no action on this post so apologies again if my question was stupid or if I just was unclear. But hear me out. Just returned from the Dermatologist to have a look at my early recovery and asking for some tips to prevent donor scaring as good as possible early on. He had an interesting view. Most if not any scar creme is silicon based which isnt good for hair follicles in general. Scar tissue i.e on your arm isnt affected much by it, but hair follicels are. He recommended to get a solution from the pharmacy which is a simple mixture of hyaluronic acid and dexamethasone (anti inflammatory), no other ingredients. (i am talking about donor area recovery, my grafts will continue to get the anti septic creme from post surgery day) Well basically thats what my post is about. I cant tell yet if what the dermatologist said is BS but it sounds not too off. The dermatologist I seeked out is a specialist for scar healing, whilst he obviously is not practicing HTs he sounded like he still knows a fair about about the procedure. He also said per his view its best to leave the scar healing (donor) alone as long as possible for around 14 days and to consider not even using the shampoo provided by the clinic. (yes i understand it has an antiseptic purpose as well but that does the hyaluronic acid and dexamethasone as well. Undecided, will continue with the shampoo for now but maybe stop in a couple of days) Of course I do trust my HT Doc but I believe no one can know everything and there is always room for tweaks eventually (in that case how to best treat your wounds) Another question - how did you deal with face swelling aside from cooling it. Any other advice ? (it starts to sit in now, guess its normal 2 days post OP as the fluid sinks down from the head) I dont mind much for the appearance, its just should I do something or also wait it out. Anyone any other tips, happy to hear and to discuss.
  2. I guess I don't qualify yet to answer as I am just 2 days post surgery but my take / plan is to see it like this - i wore hats/ caps very often beforehand anyways when going outside so I can just continue to do so until the 10/12 month mark or earlier if i don't like my look. I mean it's not that you can do anything anyways if you are not happy with the (pre) results unless doing another HT but that would be foolish doing before you waited it out. Maybe I am naive and will also stress out but i hope i can hold up to my plan
  3. Hi all, its done. 2nd day post OP, FUE 4097, Hattingen (or so, dont have the exact 4000+ number in front of me right now). Feeling alright, some few swollen areas but really minor. As my question suggests, I am looking for any additional advice from people who had their surgery already in regards of what to watch out for / do additionally to what the Dr said what you wished you had known right from the start etc to create a maximum healing process environment. Maybe there is nothing else to do then what I have been told but why not ask. Citizen Science is a thing What I have been told (pretty obvious / same for everyone I guess) - Washing and creaming procedure - Wet towel on top of your head as long as possible during the day. Helps with early crust disposal per clinic. - Avoid physical activity for at least 1, better 2 weeks (no sex included). When have you guys started sexy time again ? - I dont take Fin or Min, I know about the theory to at least do it for 6 months post surgery but to quote the doctor "its not necessary, if you arent finished with family planning yet rather just let it be. (he is not anti Fin in general) - I can wear a bandana but the more fresh air the better for healing - I usually supplement a good amount of VitD3 (min. 10k i.e) along with the co-factors Fish oil, Vitamin K2 Mk7, Zinc, VitaminC 1000, Magnesium, Vitamin B complex, Calcium & Quercetin (powerful natural anti histamine). I take this regime for other reasons as well not because of hair loss only since many years and found it quite helpful for a multitude of things. On that one for example the Doctor said dont take anything of that for 3-4 days. I dont think thats correct as each of these things do generally help to keep inflammation at bay and boost healing (besides various other things) - Dont bump your head ( or course As said, its all pretty obvious but maybe there are some small tweaks that help additionally. For example I head to a dermatologist today to have another look if all looks alright and I will ask him for a top notch scar creme - I believe creaming the dots with some really good stuff may help for visual appearance at a later stage. Since this is such a nice community here I of course will try to update with progress. Will start a new thread for that in some time when its worthwhile to show progress & that its easier to search for anyone interested in this clinic. Any questions also shoot. cheers
  4. Thanks Berba ! I tried topik before but I think it's too messy, if i just barely touched it my fingers where pretty dirty and it messed up white collared shirts etc. Maybe have to try another brand !
  5. As the title says, I have my first scheduled HT coming up in some weeks and am obviuosly quite a bit nervous now. (40, M, no meds) Seeking ab it of support and external input wheter my decission was correct. After browsing lots and lots of fotos of spotting users in a likley similar situation then mine I am still unsure if the planned graft count of 3500 FUE will be enough. I am aware that I likley need a second HT but also follow the mantra that a virgin skin / extraction site should be harvested as good as possible during the first run. Going to Hattingen, I liked their results the most from the videos and pictures being rather conserverative / age appropriate in the design + great personal chemistry. I personally think I rather need 4000 by now (the personal consultation was over a year ago, I had some personal life challenges since then that I believed triggered some additional stress related hair loss - which likley will grow back but I cant know for sure of course). Yes I chatted since with them since but a personal view on the hair status can not be replaced virtually. Basically I am sure I can discuss upping the graft amount on the day of the surgery and go to 4k if they agree (its planned 2 days anyways already + day 3 for control) but even for this discussion I would like to be prepared with some other views (yours) upfront. Still also unsure on FUT vs FUE, the surgeon was more inclined to FUT but its a big nope for me having to worry about the scar the rest of my life. I know myself, I would constantly think about the scar and if someone sees it so it has to be FUE or I wont find peace. (i dont mind if anyone sees any "dot scars" + micro pigmentation should help a lot of so). Surgeon said FUE fine as well, I can do a FUT still later if needed (or another FUE whatever happens) I have realistic expectations, I dont expect a youthfull straight hairline nor is my crown that important to me. I want to finally get rid of the bald spot in the middle as well as filling the temples in maybe halve of the current bald area. Framing the face again is my goal, not super extreme dense or straight hairline as this would look unnatural for my age anyways. I wear my hair a bit longer usually as well, pictures show just a recent (last time for a longer time ? barber cut). Yes I understand longer hairs are even better for FUT Scar coverage but as said, I wont find peace of mind sporting a long scar. Whats your view - 4000 FUE should be enough ? Am I right with around calculating 1.2k left temple, 1.2k middle, 1.2 right temple and around 500ish crown (for now, second HT as said is sure needed) looking forward to your thoughts and thanks
  6. Thanks man, really appreciate to hear this. I am just nervous before the big day and think a lot about "what ifs". Yes Hattingen have great results, pretty pricey and long,Ong waiting time but that's the wrong end to save money or be impatient per my view
  7. thanks for the link to Bob, thats interesting and exactly what I was after. I am going to Hattingen, did a couple of consultations the past years and from the personal connection and gut feeling, as well as the results comparing to others they appealed the most to me. (i dig the conservative / natural looking styles they do) Dont get me wrong I know transplanted hair will likley stay I am talking about the grafts from the donor which where destined to go at some point as at higher age. Everyone loses hair even in their donor area at some point. What happens if these - even if few - folikels fall. Will you have dotted scars at the recipient area as well ? I guess so, although the scars from extraction are eventually more "severe" to the skin then the placement spots but I am not sure. Gonna post some pics in another thread to listen to some views, currently quoted 3500 FUE but I think 4000 would be better so discussing this at the day of the surgery. (maybe I dont open another thread as this will spark again the discussion of the necessety to take Fin which is will not and I have no nerve to go through this again
  8. As the title says thats my question. I have a HT coming up soon and still some remaining doubts I couldnt really get a clear picture on. My biggest fear is what will happen / how will I look in 15 - 20 years time from now as a: native hair will obvioulsly continue to fall and b.: even the donor hair that got transplanted might eventually fall as well at some point (at least some of it maybe, even dudes with perfect hair will experience some thinning at higher age). What will happen if you had a FUE in the spots at the front - will you have similar dotted scars at the recipient area like the pictures post op shows at the donor ? I know this thought is far ahead and its literally impossible to get pictures from patients who had a FUE like 15 - 20 years ago (they simply wont log in to a HT forum, Reddit or wherever, why should they as these forums are more for people pre-op having questions or showing results 1-2 years after) Am 40, waited that long for a HT to sit out pattern development but am worried now as the HT date approaches very soon. Am not on Fin and will not, please no discussion about this understand its highly controversial but I made my decission on not taking anything and go with another stratgie. (i dont mind "thinner" hair moving on as long as the "face framing" is restored again)
