When I started Finasteride it was my family doctor who prescribed it. Any ethical surgeon will also discuss meds with you or at least have the discussion that without meds you will continue to lose you natives. If you get on meds you can recover some of the miniturized hairs because based on your pattern you may lose the remaining hair mid scalp. I myself also had very aggressive lose and the meds helped stabilize the loss and I feel my crown and mid scalp has held up ok. For some reason I still thinned in the front.

Thank you deitel, I'll see what my family doctor will prescribe

A lot of the surgeons you have listed in Canada do not exclusively perform hair transplants with the exception of Dr. Gupta, Dr Coterill, Dr. Huber and H&W in Vancouver. That is not to say the others are not good. There is a member who recently posted having excellent results with Dr. Gupta. Hasson and Wong are recommended on this site and you will see a lot of results on the forums from other patients. You will see the same on the European forums (pages and pages of results from H&W patients). The other doctor recommended in Canada is Dr. Rahal but he only performs FUE and if you are leaning towards FUE he should definitely be given consideration. H&W and Dr Rahal prices may seem slightly higher than others in Canada but when compared to the US it still much lower. Within Canada there are limited options.

Do your research, make sure you are comfortable with the plan which includes a long term plan before making a selection.

Thank you for the info, I have reached out to Dr.Rahal and will seek his recommendation as well.

I also learned from a forum member about Dr.Cortez (https://haircentermexico.com/) in Mexico, he seems to have good experience with international patients. Have you heard of him / what are your thoughts of HT in Mexico?

Are You now using any medications to prevent hair loss?

@Suzuki szI have used Rogaine but stopped it because of irritation on my scalp and didn't see any notice in improvements (no consultation with any doctor)

Having said that H & W did recommend to consult with my family doctor regarding medication or topical finasteride. But I am not sure if that is necessary as hair surgeons are at best position to recommend any medication if required, isn't it?

Hey, so basically what's happened since I made this thread is I had a massive shed (100+ hairs in the shower/blowdrying every morning) that lasted 4-5 months, and it got to the point where I was doubting the legitimacy of the product I was using (Morr-F from ebay). I decided to switch to oral fin prescribed by a doctor, and my shedding seems to have come to a complete halt. I now only shed around 5-30 hairs in the morning. I'm not sure if this was just a cyclical shed or what. I am still using a bit of Morr-F at night in combination with the oral fin. At the moment my hair seems to be in the same state that it was 2 years ago, and so I'm pretty confident that I will be able to maintain with fin for the foreseeable future.

Anyway, my current plan is to go to Mexico this summer for an FUE procedure with the Dr. Cortez brothers at Hair Medical Restoration. They quoted me 1600 grafts to fix up the frontal portion @ $3 CAD per graft all in. I don't really trust the budget clinics here in Canada and the quality ones are way out of my price range. I also don't want to travel all the way to Turkey, and so Mexico is a nice compromise for quality and convenience.

@spazyI am in Canada as well and like you don't trust the budget clinics. How did you find about Dr.Cortez brothers and how is their experience?

I will search online but wanted to get first hand info about them as well.

So I'm from Toronto as well and I've consulted with their rep here in Toronto as well as one of the Drs on your list. I was a bit perplexed by that as well. My quote from H&W was almost double the other doctor but it's important to keep in mind what each doctor has in mind when they quote you on the graft count. H & W may be going for more density or more coverage and therefore quote a slightly higher count. That or their sales guys just quote slightly higher numbers lol. The other doctor just told me that he wasn't going for significant density and that his goal was the appearance of thinning. Kinda funny though, I got a quote for like 3k grafts from H&W and I'm probably a norwood 2-3 at 30. I don't think I'm diffuse thinning or anything either

Also, if they're doing skype consultations vs in person consultations, they might be able to notice a different hair quality than what they see on Skype. If your hair looks thin on skype but in person it's super thick and dense, then they might give you a lower graft count in person due to having better quality donor hair.

thanks for sharing your experience. Are you still consulting with other doctors or have completed your search?

  6. Hello Everyone,

I have been following threads in here and while they are helpful, I thought to start my own thread and share my HT journey with you guys.

Background : I am 30 years old. I do have family history of hair loss from my father side - particularly on front - but not on crown and middle/ top scalp. My hair colour is blonde, check my hair pics below.

Research : I have learned about FUT and FUE on the internet and interactions with HT patients. Aside from price and surgical method, the primary difference between FUE and FUT seems to be - there is higher rate of follice survival with FUT, since hair is harvested from donor zone where most of the hair is permanent. The other reason I tend to lean towards FUT is that I keep long hairs, therefore, don't have any issue with scar ( even though based on research and pics of successful FUT transplant, the scar is not visible). Having said that, I would like to have your opinions and suggestions as to go with FUE or FUT? In addition, if there are other methods that have generated successful results please let me know so that I could check it as well.

Clinics Contacted in Toronto : I have so far consulted the following doctors / clinics

            - Seager / Dr. Aditya K. Gupta : I had in person consultation with him, and he recommended two FUT procedure. The first session is for front / hairline  and middle scalp and the second is for crown area. The price I am quoted for the first session is CAD $ 7300 including HST, while the price seems fair but I am hesitant to move forward as I didn't feel confident communicating with Dr.Gupta - he did not provide clear plan on how he will approach my case and the amount of grafts required - I also want to research more clinics in my area before deciding on one. While I have allocated budget for my HT, I also want to work with clinics / doctors that have high success rate and tends to care for patients.

          - Dr.Ashlin Alexander: He seems to be new in Toronto. I have shared pics with his clinic and they have recommended 2750 Grafts (5500 hairs) FUT for hairline, frontal and mid scalp. I am still researching regarding their clinic and experience. Has anyone done HT with him? if so how was the experience?

         - Hasson and Wong : Their consultant has recommended 4500 Grafts for frontal hairline and add density to the frontal 2/3 of the scalp (excluding the crown area) and the price seems to be almost double of Dr.Ashlin quote. Frankly, I am confused on the amount of grafts they have suggested - I think the maximum amount of graft that I require cannot be more than 3000 grafts for my hair line, front and mid scalp. But could you guys based on your experience check my pics and see how much grafts I require?

         - Dr. Cory Torgerson / Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic : They have recommended 2200 FUE for frontal hairline plus range of treatments i.e. PRP, laser and Theradome laser helmet and does not conduct FUT procedure. I am in touch with them regarding my frontal, mid scalp and crown area. The price is also high compared to others in the area. Has anyone worked with them in the past?

I have appointments coming up with

          - Dr. Paul Cotterill

          - Dr. Mulholland

          - Dr.Jonathan Huber

Are there any other recommended doctors or HT clinics that have experience and high success rate in Toronto area?

Goals : I do not expect to have my full thick hairs back, but I would like to add density to my frontal, mid scalp and crown area. My head structure, particularly forehead is large and narrow on the front. Therefore, I am not worried about my forehead sides and were empty from young age.
