Close up on how SMP can turn blue and the dots can fade into one block of colour after a few years. 

As requested, transplant on top of SMP before it was laser removed. The laser did not damage the hair grafts.

Sometimes it doesn’t feel 10/10, but I guess no one is happy with their look 100%. 

Unfortunately I think the reality is that I shaved my head down with a blade to see the scars too soon. I have since learned from Rolandas’ videos on YouTube that FUE scars take time to form and become more obvious.

I think if I were to shave my head down with a blade now, the scars would be much more obvious. I may give it a try and take photos to compare one day.

I am in the same situation. 

I had the SMP lasered off right up to the hairline, but not any further up yet.

My HT Dr’s clinic also does SMP laser removal so they did extra research into this and assured me it will not kill the grafts, but I still have not gone up into the hairline yet.

It is a bit annoying because when I stick my hair at the front up you can see the old SMP.

But I use fibres / dermatch to thicken up my hairline now anyway, and when I put that on top of the SMP it looks fine. Otherwise, I just brush my hair forward at the front.

It seems wrong to laser off the smp under my hairline, just to then cover it back with fibres any way… so far I have just left it. Sometimes it the SMP makes it look better, sometimes worse… depends on the hair style at the front. The final pic below is with no fibers, just transplanted hair on top of SMP. 
 

Your SMP looks much better than mine so it might look good under the transplant. It definitely helped during the first 3 months to have SMP.
 

However, I think I will go for it eventually and laser off maybe 1cm into my hairline, just so that I can brush it up and it looks like thin hair rather than the weird blue shade that I currently have.

When I go for it, I will let you know whether the grafts survive or not!

This is the best it has looked. I made the mistake of getting it cut short after this and have not been able to get it looking as good as this since. Waiting for it to grow back again.

Mr Rolandas has recently pointed out on his YouTube channel that FUE scars can become more obvious over time. I had not taken this into account. I will aim to shave the back of my head down with a blade again after 12 months to compare and will share photos. I expect the scars to be more obvious by then.

It did not cost quite that much when I had it done, but yes, it was not cheap.

It didn’t affect the procedure at all fortunately.

It definitely benefited during the ‘ugly duckling’ faze of recovery, made it look like I had a shaved head with random stubble while I waited for it to all grow through.

However, now that it has grown out, it is the opposite. It does not help. I feel that it makes it look worse, especially at the hairline where you can see the SMP colour through the hair. It means I can’t have my hair styled up at the hairline, I have to have it brushed forward to hide the SMP. Check my hairline picture above to see what I mean.

Perhaps if I had a lighter shade SMP, or less of a straight tattoo ‘hairline’, then it wouldn’t be so bad. 
 

Still very happy with it all though. SMP kept me covered for years until I could afford a good HT. Now I’m not bald any more! 👍🏻

Yes, SMP many years ago. You can see it in my before and after photos.

Close up on hairline on top of SMP when slicked back.

A normal person on the street would have to look very close to spot the SMP under the hair, but I still prefer to brush down at the hairline to hide it completely.

Yesterday I saw a guy with a clear FUT line on the back of his head but bald. It made me appreciate the FUE.

I completely understand why some people would prefer FUT, and how it can potentially get more grafts from the safer donor region.

But I personally feel more worried about the risk of it failing and having an obvious FUT scar.

I was so concerned about having noticeable scars that I bought silver dermmatch before my surgery, just in case I needed to cover the scars up on a shaved head if it failed. Very happy that I did not need it. I don’t think it would have worked.

I am very happy with my experience of FUE, but I also understand not everyone will have the same. So much depends on finding a good Dr.

I should also share that I found the numbing injections extremely painful, but after that the procedure was pain free.

I also experienced the normal swelling for a short while after the procedure. My wife said it made me look like piccolo...  😕

They can show before and after photos if you arrange a consultation, they just can’t publish them online. I also contacted previous patients who had given their permission.

From what I understand, clinics here are carefully regulated in the ways in which they promote themselves to ensure customers are given realistic expectations.

Not that it seems to be a problem, Dr Ma has a long wait list. The team only do one surgery per day.
