Hello Melvin! I am really curious how your results will turn out, specifically the crown. Was your crown implanted exclusively with the 1500 beard grafts only or were scalp grafts placed there as well? I am curious because I have a surgery scheduled for Eugenix this coming August during which I will have 800-1k grafts of only beard hair transplanted to my thinning crown. I have consulted with Aditya at Eugenix and she explained that even after beard hair my crown might look thin and that beard hair is more wiry but that there would be improvement. This is why I am curious about your results. Your hair texture is similar to mine, I have black Hispanic hair as well so I am curious how the beard hair would look in the crown when fully grown. I have a decent amount of scalp hair in my crown still so I think it could be blended well, I am just wanting to add density. Here is a current photo of how my crown looks now.

Were you a norwood 5 or 6? That is a large number of grafts for one sessions. Congrats.

Decided to finally do something about the massive bald spot on my crown as I’m tired of dealing with it. I’ve gotten estimates of 2-3k grafts. Since I have some hair there, would I need that many? Should I be worried about shocking the hair I have there out of existence leaving me in the same situation I’m in now but with less donor?

I’ve roughly outlined the approximate area in which I’m looking for coverage. If you look at the patch of loss you will see that the edges fade from 100% density and gets thinner the more towards the center you go. Normal density is approx 100 fu’s per cm. When hair dips below 50 fu’s per cm is when it is noticeable. Using this, a surgeon would start to fill the area starting at the point where the density is below 50 fu’s to create a natural seamless pattern and the illusion of coverage. That is why I don’t draw the line at the point where it starts to get only slightly thin, instead i draw it where it becomes drastically thin which is the approximate area where a surgeon would start to place grafts. Of course more grafts could be placed there, but if it is the illusion of coverage the goal, then shouldn’t the least amount of grafts be used for the sake of donor mgmt?

That’s a lot more than I expected. The area is only a 20 square cm patch with some hair maybe 25% density left from normal. It appears a lot worse because of the contrast with the rest of my hair which is very dense. I was told it takes 50 follicular units to give the appearance of density. 20 x 50 = 1,000 grafts Am I missing something here? There is also some hair still there albeit a thin layer (maybe 25 fu’s) I’m coming up with much less than 2k grafts.
