  1. 6 month update

hair is filling in nicely and really happy with it. hoping it will thicken up over coming months in the midscalp and crown, which i think it will given other posters who had a ht with dr couto,  but overall over the moon for 6 months and dr couto is fantastic !

thanks for all the other posters, this forum has been invaluable

You are in good hands. Excited to see the results in 12 month.

How was your experience with him, from what I heard He is involved 100% with the patient and the case is not finished until the patient is 100% satisfied with the result.

yeah from what i saw he was fully involved he had one other person later in the day and was v present for my procedure and afterwards answering questions etc also his team were super responsive on whatsapp the evenings of the op when i was in the hotel answering questions etc

  3. this forum has been massively helpful to me in my decision to go for a HT so i wanted to share some of my experience to help others. i was on the waitlist for Dr Couto for about 3 years, had to postpone due to covid lockdown and was booked in again for may of this year. i’m at week 7 post op now and it’s going well although i am in the middle of ugly duckling which is hard but hopefully i think it’s stabilized now so i just wait for growth.

i have to say Dr Couto and his team are amazing and i can really see why there is such a waitlist and demand.

i was a bit nervous before the procedure because my hair had thinned since i last saw the dr (approx 3 years ago) and i was concerned that maybe it was too bad for a ht even though i was on fin and minox.

i reached out to his office and he called me the week before and they organized a video call too where he spent a lot of time talking me through my situation which was DPA with very fine hair but he said he could do a good job and was confident i would get a good result. this was a huge relief to me.

i stayed 5 days in madrid and the op was over 3 days for 4000 grafts.

the strategy was to go for coverage rather than dense pack the front and i was really happy with that approach given my advanced hair loss.

the team were super friendly and over the next 3 days they implanted 4k grafts. the procedure was fine i dozed in and out of sleep and the team did their magic. i had some popping and extra bleeding which made it more complicated as well as grafting between existing hair.

some pics below from the procedure . first one is 3 weeks post op, then pre procedure, post procedure to 2 weeks post op and current 7 weeks where i am now

    highly recommend dr couto

    3 and a half months!

looks super, really filling in, congrats !

When you were deciding on the two phased approach addressing front and then crown areas, did you and dr couto look at long term planning if in the case some of your native thinned in the next say 10/20 years or you wanted to stop fin  so that it still looks natural etc ?

    thanks

  5. thanks a mill for sharing. you mentioned you are off work until mid april. how long did you take off in total for the procedure and recovery?

i know people go back to work after couple of weeks but i’m trying to estimate when i can realistically go back where it’s not obvious ie less redness, through some of ugly duckling stage, some early regrowth etc so while it might look patchy it wouldn’t be noticeable to the untrained eye…

also did you do prp , i heard couto recommends it beforehand to speed up healing process ?

    thank you

  6. hi

ive had a look on spanish forums too... is it a maybe case that there are no bad reviews because he brings people back for touch ups and most people are happy ? the spanish forums all do say he is very attentive and takes a lot of pride in getting it right ... i would really like to hear from someone who has been to him though !

  7. hi there - looking for some advice on the number of grafts needed and to know what norwood i am?

i think i’m a V and ’ve had varying views anywhere from 3k to 5500... diffuse thinning in middle and fine but good volume all around sides and donor. front hairline is ok.

    im trying to get advice

1 on how many grafts needed

2 what procedure . i’ve been told i can do fue or fut . i do not want to go fut because of scar but i need a long term plan - 3k fut now and 2-3k fue later or 4k now fue and have 1-2k for fue down the road . i like the idea of fue because i can keep it short in the future of native falls out

    any advise welcome!

  8. hey everyone i know this has been covered before but it’s a tough one to decide on... if you needed 3-4000 grafts which procedure would you use ?

i know it depends on the surgeon too.

fue has become very popular for mega sessions now but some say fut grafts are more robust etc

long term linear scar with fut but no ugly duckling stage etc

some people say fut is the old way but does that mean it’s fue all the way ?

would anyone have a recommendation on one over the other ?

    thanks!

  9. thanks everyone, i’m looking at  4000 grafts and i’d expect redness for a few weeks...i’ve seen pics where recipient is still red / pink up to about week 12 so i just wanted to check on when i could practically go back to work without it being too obvious. i would probably shave it and cut recipient down after a few weeks or else use fibers

  10. hi and just to say this is an incredibly helpful forum

i am seriously considering fue over fut but am concerned about the ugly duckling stage and going back to the office and meeting people for work etc and am trying to plan it out

i see some clinics say that from 2 weeks you can go back but there is still redness, other testimonials appear to have redness in recipient area and two phases of growth between native and transplanted until 10-12 weeks at the least so is very obvious

i don’t want to do fut but it does seem more discreet

my question is does it make sense to get extended time off say 6-8 weeks and then go back to work and shave it down to even it out after 3-4 weeks ahead of going back.

or do you just have to accept it’s going to be obvious as that’s part of the deal and tell people and expect the looks and questions ?

i know it depends on size of HT and the persons skin tone etc but any advice would be brilliant

    thanks
