  1. I am about 3 years out from a 1200 strip procedure from Bosley to fill in my receeding hairline. Overall I am very happy with my results (been on propecia for 3 years as well with great success). However, one side of the scar did not heal as well as the other. Most of the scar is 1-2mm but the right side is 5mm for about 2 inches. I am thinking about shaving my head down to a 2-3 clip and that 5mm part really draws attention to the scar, otherwise I could probably go undetected. I went to one plastic surgeon but she seemed to think at best she could reduce the scar by 50% but I got the feeling she never performed a scar revision on the scalp before so I walked out. Can anyone recommend a reputable hair transplant Dr. in the NJ, NY, PA area to perform a scar revision? I'd rather deal with someone who does this on a regular basis. Bosley said they'd do it for free but I am apprehensive about going back to the person that put the 5mm scar there in the 1st place. Thanks!

  3. Thank you for the info Smoothy! My HT has already come in great and I have achieved great results with the propecia too so I don't believe I am depressed about that. Maybe this is being caused by something else. I will definately try to limit my sugars and carbs and see if this will help. Luckily, I have not had any ill effects as far as libido is concerned. Definately feel a little spacy sometimes though (as compared to before I went on the propecia ) Hopefully this will clear up. We are anticipating a move back up north this year and I have been a little stressed about that... perhaps this has brought on the "low" feelings. Thanks for the replies everyone!
  4. Yes, you have to be happy with what you see in the mirror and excercise definately helps with that. About the other part of my 1st post... Will halving my propecia dosage have ill effects on the good results I have experienced so far? I'd hate to start losing hair again at the rapid rate I was before the propecia. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the reply rugger I do currently take my vitamins and try to eat as healthy as possible with plenty of greens. I had taken a hiatus from excerise since the transplant, only sporatically workingout here and there. I have only really put myself back in the swing of things for the last 4 weeks. I do feel better actually now that I am working out, but I still have "episodes" where I find myself very "low" so to speak. I have nothing to be depressed about thank God, so it is making me think that it is the propecia. I have never taken any kind of medication before the propecia. I just get worried because my mood effects my friends and family as well and I'd like to get back to where I was before. I know what you are saying about the adrenaline and the letdown. I am very happy with the surgery but I do wish I found this site earlier... as I significantly overpaid... But the results have been wonderful and have definately restored my confidence and outlook on appearance. Thanks again!
  6. I have been on Propecia for 6 months now and I am 5 months out after my transplant. So far so good, hair is coming in great and I have noticed a large decrease in hair loss. Unfortunately, I have experienced the lazyness side effect from the propecia as well as mood swings into depression over the last 3-4 months. I don't know what else to attribute it to as I have never felt this way before until after being on propecia for a few months. I have been debating cutting my 1mg propecia dose in half or taking one every other day to see if I can shake these side effects, but I do not want to jeaopardize the positive effects it is having on my hair. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

  8. I did a search here but I could not find anything on MSM or shampoos and such, that people are using. I did look it up on google and MSM does look like a good, safe option. Does anyone here have personal experience with it or other things. Is it safe to use other supplements with Propecia? I did not want to "OD" on any one thing that could be helpful in limited quantities. I currently use a shampoo called Nioxin which is supposed to help with DHT to promote hair health and thickness. I also have sebhorric dermatitis so I use dry scalp shampoo a couple times a week to keep that under control. Are there other options out there for me? Thanks!
  9. I have been on propecia since last november (a month or so before my procedure) and so far, so good. No major negative effects and I do believe that I see alot less hair falling out than I used to. But is there anything else out there I can do to help keep my hair and possibly even stimulate new growth? (aside from rogaine) I have heard saw palmetto and certain herbs may help out. But are these things safe to take with propecia? I also saw a post that said to drink grapefruit juice to help with absorption. I just want to give the follicles a fighting chance with any advantage I can. But I did not want to do anything that would affect my health adversely taking the propecia into consideration. Thanks!

  11. Thanks arfy! I received my transplant in the Boca Raton, FL Bosley location. It was within driving distance for me so that was nice. The office and their staff was great. The procedure was almost "fun"? if you will... I watched a movie and talked with the assistants and before I knew it, the procedure was done and my wife came to pick me up. I guess since I was not completely hairless in the place where I received the transplant, it iwll be a little hard to tell exactly how well it worked, but every little bit will help in my book!
  12. I see what you are saying now about Bosley. I did have a pleasant experience though (with nothing to compare it to however...) But it's all water under the bridge for me now. I actually think I was paying more per graft than 6-7 but they had about 170 extra grafts from the donor strip that they put in for free, which brought down the average ppg. There were about 5-6 people around the outside countertop in the op room using microscopes to disect the grafts up and I do recall the term "folicular unit" being used. They split the grafts into 1,2,3 and a few 4 hair units. All in all I am happy with how the procedure went. I had the procedure figured to be a monster but it was really not bad. The worst part was the next 2 weeks (at least I was on a long out of state vacation and I wore a hat the majority of the time) I am praying for the best and I hope the propecia helps me keep what I have (my thinning was not too severe and mainly in the front so maybe I halted it before it thinned too much) Thanks again for the info and refereces. I will definately shop around next time before I go in for another procedure. I will try to find some before, right after, and now pictures up here for reference.
  13. Yes I paid 6 per graft at Bosley. I guess I did not know there were many other options out there and I always saw their commercials (plus they were very close to my house. I wish I found this board sooner. I did read some posts here with links to articles about Bosley's poor judgement when it came to medications and getting medical doctor approval before performing surgery. However, is there any real quality difference in the procedure? Now I am getting worried that my grafts won't grow. Is it just that Bosley is more expensive, or are they really substandard? I do plan to have another surgery down the road if needed, who would you recomend? I am moving back to the NYC area so a Dr. there would be ideal. Oh and about how much per graft did most of you pay? Thanks for all your responses!
  14. I take it from your reaction that Bosley is not a favorite around here? I had a very good experience there during and after my procesure. (of course, I am still waiting for the hair to grow so we'll see...) No blood came out when I picked the scabs out from the front where the HT was done so I should be ok. Yes, alot of the grafts did stick around for me as well since the operation (which was nice) I am hoping the rest are soon to come! Well the scar is healed but I had scabs for a long time. I still have a little one on the side (I tend to pick at them so I am sure that does not help) But I am going in for a checkup soon so I will have my regular doctor take a look to see if everything is ok. Thanks for the reply!
  15. Hello all! I received a transplant at Bosley in December, 1250 grafts. I have also been on propecia for 4 months now. The propecia has appeared to be working as I have noticed a decline in the amount of hair that would fall out when I would rub my head over a piece of paper. I hope it stays that way. I am a little over 3 months now and was wondering a few things. I finally got the feeling back in my scalp, which was nice. However, recently, I have been finding little "scabs" I guess in the transplant area and I picked at one, and I am afraid that I pulled the follicle out. A hair with a small white bulb on the bottom was what came out. I have had 5-6 of these scabs recently. Is this normal? I am not touching them anymore but it is strange. When will my hair begin to grow? I thought they said 3-4 months. Has this been the case with most of you? I am anxious. Also, my scar is still healing in some areas (especially the ends). When will it finally seal up? Will it ever go away or at least become less recognizable so I can cut my hair shorter? Is there anything I can do to make it go away? Thanks everyone! I am glad I found this site. Just cruising through some old topics and it has been comforting to see that there are so many others who have experienced the same thing.
