  1. Odd Story,,, but true.. and along this topic. Was at a playoff party this weekend. Burger king has a commercial out where a guy with 'tiny hands" gets caled on it, when a woman pulls off his foam fingers. funny enough, i guess. (i have long lost my sence of humor at physical issues) one of the women at the party has teledactily(? dont know if i am spelling it right)- its a birth defect where here hands are shrivled and the fingers fused ( I think Jim lampley's wife had it.. and that Lobster boy side show guy). anyway.. a lot of people laughed at the commercial and then the room went deathly silent.. she burst into tears and ran out.. has not been in the office yesterday, or today. I don't think anyone there was laughing at her.. i think it took a few moments for the connection to sink in. but once again, madison ave, freak shows an issue for their own $$ gain at someone's emotional loss. doesn't anyone paying for these commercials think twice about the people they might be offending? It's not F@%&ing funny!
  2. Its quite the double edged sword. If u want to do something about it (ht/ toup, etc) your mocked even more because of your "vanity, or insercurity", etc). however it is shoved down our throughts on every tv show, movie, commercial, etc bald gys are dopey losers. remember "Cable Guy movie"... God I could have died.. sitting there watching it while my "plugs" were growing in. like a thousand knives. intersting note.. the only media outlet I ever recall having a 'cool bald uy' was the sitcom "just shoot me" where the photographer was an otherwise normal looking bald guy who always scored with the models. i fund this quite interesting. this was before the vin disel/travolta- in the new movie- the 'hitman guy", etc where bald has become somewhat cool... but that is totally shaved, not the natural balding "Friar Tuck" look. sad thing. once you have the rear scars and cornrows.. can't even pull off the shaved head. my 2 cents!
  3. My vote: leave it alone for a while. I know that no one wants to hear it, I know times have changed. but it took years for my ht to look "normal". granted, i had the old plugs 20 years ago. several "corrective" surguries over the years. it always seemed it looked worse after.... BUT WITH TIME, everything seems to settle in. my HT looks pretty darn good now. I don't think anyone really notices . I alway's judged it on the "eye drifters". in my 20's.. for the 1st few years.. everyone. i really don't notice eye dfrifting at all anymore.. and believe me i am still very on the 'look out for it". one odd thing. i would say 99% of the people i know would have no idea i have a ht unless i bring it up, or under certain conditions. i do a lot of boating, i like convertibles.. and my old style ht (even with the corrections) still don't look 100% natural (hairline too straight) under those conditions). I have found that diffusing it, by brinigng it up first and being friendly and informitive about is really the way to go. most people are really cool about it, and as stated, the smirkers.. well, nothing i can do about them anyway. but i digress.. as i said, for years, meeting people of all ages, races, backgrounds, etc hardly everyone look at me "normal" (perhaps now that i am in my mid 40's, thinner odd hair is normal).. BUT every once in a while... someone will spot it straight away. it's odd. last weekend, i was out to dinner with my wife. hair looked good. met some folks at the bar.. nice conversation.. no eye drift... waiter fine, etc... one lady as we were waiting for the car was looking right at my head. she was transfixed (not in a good way).. just kept staring. it's odd. some folks can pick it right out! few and far between, thank God) but i guess some people just have a good eye for it. perhaps hairdressers?, who knows. hang in there. don't hide. live your life. it will come, and everything will be ok. also, MAKE it happen, dont be a victom, fool yourself if you have to, but what you feel about yourself is how the world will fell about you. portray who you are, and "they" will follow! do it!
  4. A few thoughts. One: when i was young and selfish.. by the time a lady figured out about the ht. the "deal was done". by that time... the chick is either into you, or not.. never had the HT turn anyone off. two: when the kids are young.. they really don't think of that stuff. i remember my daughter being about 2 to 3 when she was sitting on my lap and kind of looking at the "plugs" with ther fingers.. obviously at that age, not much more than processing things.. but i think they think "that's just dads head". now my biggest concern that my kids are 10 and 9, is the "what's up with your dad's hair" that may be coming from one of thier friends when we are out on the boat, or in a convertible, windy day.. no hat.. etc. perhaps its already happened. don't know. all my kids friens seem cool. no odd stares. but who knows. dealt with this since the 'dark days" for over 20 years. looks good now, but i think under the right conditions one can still tell. more concerned about emabarassing my kids than myself. but they are so self assurred, i doubt (and hope) it will not be an issue. my wife has always been supportive. believe me, the right woman will not care. you can be up front with good friends.. we even kid around sometimes. you get a feel for the mean spirited folk and they shred you anyway.. if not for your hair.. they will find something else. be happy!
  5. Hi all, along term lurker on the site. a lot of great info to be found. I like many here had the old "plug" straight line ht back in the 90's (bosley). since then, i had a lot of corrective work at a very good plastic surgeon in the baltimore area and am quite pleased. I will try and post some pics to explain my situation (probably next week).. but in a simple explanation: i still have about 6 distinct "plugs" right at my right side temple (where the hair parts), behind that has been feathered in nicely and if i play around with the part and comb the 6 plugs straight down (I know this is where a picture would help) i am quite pleases with the irregular , but natural reced look of the temple behind it. my question, i know i could have my surgeon remove, or disperse the plugs... i hate to "waste hair", but frankly, i'm not sure if i want the time, red bumps, $$ etc. has anyone had luck with shaving of a few plugs? how often does one have to shave them? is it best to use a "mangroomer" to buzz down, then a blade shaver (I have direct acess, or my wife could do it).. without screwing anything up. how about waxing? anyone use any home product? i would hate the embarrasment of walking into a wax joint and asking to have some plugs waxed off.. but i'd do it if need be. also, lazer hair removal? anyone try this? go to a dermotologist, or just any hair lazer removal place? lastly (ouch) i have considered plucking. has anyone plucked? how often does it grow back? I know the smart thing to do, which i will, is see my doc to discuss all the options, but i'd like some input some people who have been thru the above to see waht works well. I certainly trust my Plastic surgeion.. he is not a clinic hack.. but let's face it.. a surgeon is going to reccomend surgery.. (if that's my best option.. no problem)... but people tend to think in a manner of what they do. perhaps the thought of waxing, or lazer removal might not be what he considers to be the best "medical" option. I am just looking at all my options. i hope my rambling makes sence. any advice , or input is greatly appreciated! auggie
