  1. Hey mate (and everyone), at 11 months. It's scary how quickly time flies.

Honestly, not much of a change between 8/9 and 11 months in my experience. The hairs are pretty much the same, maybe a bit thicker, but some are still a touch whispy.

I have been told they will continue to grow in caliber, but I'm not concerned either way.

Here's some pics, let me know if you have any questions :)

I am well overdue for a haircut, so the mop is very much in charge

Pestine work. Any phots of a selfie with your face blocked out? Curious as to how Konior designed your hairline in relation to your eye brows. Something like this:

Hey mate, I actually didn't get any. Perhaps this is because I simply extended my hairline from my frontal lock (which was untouched). So I didn't really design a hairline, I just had the corners filled in.

Dr K said I could have gone lower, but I wanted to go super conservative due to my family history.

  3. Hey gang, I was speaking to Dr K recently, and he sent me some immediate post-op pictures.

Just in case anyone wanted a good quality shot of what you can expect immediately after the operation - and how my hair was styled for a no-shave recipient procedure. My pics in the original post are pretty poor quality

Would you be willing to share a rough estimate of the type of pricing you got? I too am very interested in Dr Konior because of his impressive results, but I’ve heard it’s more of a session based pricing model rather than a cost per graft estimate. I know you get what you pay for and of course because of his reputation and work I don’t mind paying a premium, but if something around a 1200-2000 graft session would cost $35,000 that would be at the least $17 per graft which is no small fee even for the best of the best. I have a very similar case as you, so was hoping you might be willing to share. Also great post, and big thanks for sharing!

    Hey mate,

My pricing was a bit different to his current estimates.

I actually booked in early 2020, but had to keep post-poning due to COVID and such.

When I finally booked again late 2022, Dr K honoured the pricing model of my initial booking, instead of his new fee.

So I really cannot say what his would be as of now.

He is up-front with all his costs, if you email his practice, he will give you a run-down :) it's also different for FuE vs FUT. If you want a detailed breakdown, feel free to shoot me a msg

Congratulations! I'm glad to see how well your progress is going.

I have my appointment scheduled with Dr. Konior in August, and I thought I would consult with you. How many days do you recommend I stay in Chicago after the procedure? I am also from a country other than the USA and I read that you traveled from Australia to Chicago. I hope you can offer me your honest answer. Thanks very much! Kind regards.

    Thank you, mate :)

Great choice, him and his team are fantastic.

Are you having FUE? I arrived on Tuesday, and had my op on the Wednesday.

I ended up staying until Sunday I believe, and I am kind of glad I did.

You could potentially leave a couple of days after, but I had a bit of swelling - and having an extra couple of days for the grafts to secure a little more is solid peace of mind.

I'd stay 4-5 days, personally - but I'd check with Dr K, he will give you a detailed answer suitable to your operation :)

  6. Hey mate, I had 1200 FUE with Dr K (amazing experience for what it's worth).

I requested a no-shave of recipient, and he said that was fine. Of course the donor is shaved, but I also have long hair and the area I transplanted into was bald.

I believe it will depend on your type of loss, and if you are transplanting into areas with hair (mind you, Dr K doesn't generally like doing this I don't believe).

I was a NW 2/3, and just filled the corners. Here's what my hair looks like at 3 months, and how I style it to hide it. I cover the corners with a messy sort of part, but that's easy because I've always had long hair, even in the corporate world. So no one has even questioned it.

I hope this helps. I'm also in a client focused corporate position, so having minimal change to my look was important to me.

Do you have any more pre-op pics? Was most of the recipient area empty or did the doctor have to implant between native hairs? Looking good btw.

Hey mate, sorry for late reply. The areas implanted were pretty much bare, I'd say upward of 95%

There was some small weak fuzz around the hairline, Dr K shaved it and placed some grafts in there. I'll see if I can find a better pre-op pic to show the difference.

Looking any different at 2 months?

Hey mate, here's some pics at just over 2 months (10 weeks)

Not a huge change. A few of my hairs didn't shed, so I've randomly got some really long hairs that look quite out of place, haha.

Very normal. Many people lose most of the grafts as they shed from the trauma of the surgery. But in 3-5 months they should be coming back. Just gotta remain patient

Thanks mate. I expected to shed, but I wasn't sure if I should still see a tiny follicle or not. I guess that fact that it looks like the grafts have completely disappeared spooked me a bit 😅

  10. Hey gang, 5 weeks out. A lot of the hairs have now shed. A few didn't, but I assume they still might. Real ugly duckling hours.

Dr K said it's looking normal, but is it standard to look so different in terms of density? Compared to my post op, it really looks like some of the grafts aren't there, but I'm sure I didn't lose any. I was so careful, never had any head knocks, and haven't had any bleeding or any fall out. Are they just so small that it's super hard to see at this stage?

Donor looks the same as prior to the HT, so didn't figure I'd post a pic 601727604_PXL_20221221_1012028882.thumb.jpg.2fb5c2582bd1238f904612caff9f5602.jpg1457229617_PXL_20221120_1953421795.thumb.jpg.55679d0143a4699859a8b7c4e6b217d2.jpg1721293767_PXL_20221221_1011499612.thumb.jpg.6962f57785fdd87b8eb63cee3dad38b4.jpg231984231_PXL_20221120_1953295094.thumb.jpg.15518484eb24a8a32bfa7958088d9f37.jpg

  11. Hello friends, almost three weeks out, and nothing major to report with the grafts.

The scabs are gone, and the grafts are all yet to shed (mostly), I assume this will happen soon

One thing I've sort of come to the realisation of, is that the middle part of my hair looks like it's receding/miniaturising.

My hair has been getting thinner over the past year, after 6 years of stabilisation on Finasteride and monoxidil, and I have no idea why it seemingly all of the sudden started to shift. I didn't think the middle ground needed work, but now that it's not hidden by the rest of my long hair, it's not looking great.

I'd rather not hop on dutasteride, but I don't know what else to do (not that there is anything wrong with DUT, but I'd prefer to stay on what I've been tolerating for a long time).

Dr K didn't mention that this area was a concern, so perhaps I am just over analysing hair I never really looked at before. But it feels and looks like a shift in hair calibre that I've been worried about for a while.

I've added some pics of the grafts and the discussed middle part that I'm concerned with.

Hairlines naturally even without hair loss have a "feathered" look that becomes a bit thicker. After the first cm or so, but the "see through" look you're showing is usually indicative of 2 things. Hair loss OR in a hair transplant that's been done, the usual mention of "Illusion of Density" which is exposed under harsher light. Its one of the frustrating things about hair transplants that a single pass will almost never get you to native density and it does have that see through affect moreso than often.

I guess the risk is with a finite donor, they prefer to err on the side of caution rather than risk low survival but when unlimited hair clones become a thing, i think they'd be much more willing to risk things because customers will pay for it even with the warning of lower survival rates, the risk of losing your finite donor is no longer there.

Thanks Narmak, that makes sense, and it's what I sort of expected.

The middle part was actually not touched by the transplant, I didn't think it needed tending to when I booked it - but leading up to it, it seemed to thin.

Unfortunately, it looks like I might need another go around or to jump on dutasteride or something.

This is a hard game to win!

Yes my friend, under a scope you can determine the variances of caliber differentials in individual native hair shafts…also take some terminal hair shafts from the primary donor area (occipital zone) and compare the differences in hair shaft diameter between all samples…without a doubt you will notice some native hair that is diffused at various degrees, especially samples that are taken from the area that you have circled in red.

Thanks heaps Gil, so I'd be better off going to a surgeon/dermatologist who could assess it properly?

From a cursory glance, so you have an opinion as to if it looks like recession of that area?

I only ask as I've been on Finasteride and minox for about 7 years, and it's held me at baseline. I'm a bit confused as to why I might all of the sudden be losing ground

  14. I notice this in a lot of photos, where people's hairlines are somewhat see-through at the front, but they don't seem to be suffering any hairloss.

I recently had a transplant, and the front of my hair which was left untouched is see-through in harsh light, but I am unsure if this is thinning or if it's always been like this, as I used to cover the front of my hair prior to the transplant.

Is this a real thing? Or am I simply imagining/over analysing hairlines because of my own issues once again 🥲
