  1. not much more to be said other than you are being scammed. the laser treatment has never been proven or FDA tested to prevent MPB.

The proven trio is minox, finasteride, and nizoral.

There are some supplements that help in aid of hair growth. These are taken in conjuction to ensure healthy hair.

If you divert from the recommendation above then you have no one else to blame but yourself.

  2. Oh, and I stopped taking propecia because this new program seemed promiseing and propecia wasnt gonna regrow my hair just stabalize it if that. Trust me I took it for a year and half, and it never regrew anything. I switched to this new program which has DHT blocking supplents i take twice a day, and lazers and dexpanthenol to take care of the sebum, which it did, I went under a microscope attached to a computer and my scalp looks great.

This new program hasn't regrew any of my hair either, in fact my jhair looks worse now. However, the hair proguy said the hair will come back and the hair from previous years will too. Now Thats the kind of talk sold me. Sound like a scam? I gues it does. However when your desperate to save your hair at age 26 you'll jump on that boat.

The products I'm using are from wheredidmyhairgo.com you can research there if you 'd like.

    Comments?

you should reconsider your sources. both this hair guy and wheredidmyhairgo.com are not good places to start. it is forums like this where the real information resides. as TakingThePlunge has stated. finasteride and minox are the only two clinically proven hairloss therapies by the FDA.

you should stop listening to this guy because he's a salemen. if you are going to continue beleive everything he says then thats your perogotive. but look at where it has gotten you. "worse looking hair"

my recommendation stands. get back onto propecia as you expereinced no side effects. this garbage program you are on isnt working and wont work.

  3. I think it is safe to say that you got scammed:

    1. Laser therapy has not been clinically proven or tested effective for hairloss

    2. The "special" minoxidil you are using does not sound too "special"

    If I were you:

Stop both the laser and minox treatments and get back on propecia. Why did you stop propecia anyways? Sides? The most effective hairloss treatment in my expereince is finasteride. It eliminates DHT which is the source of hairloss. It is clinically and scientifically proven. This laser garbage is a giant lie.

Once you have resumed propecia for several months I would introduce and try rogaine minox and see how your scalp reacts to it. It may be that you cannot take minxodil and instead have to do without.

In response to the shampoo routine. I use nizoral 3x a week and head & shoulders the rest.

  4. I'm scheduled to get a hair transplant in 5 weeks. Since I'm having questions about how I would look with a shaved head or buzz cut, I'm thinking of shaving my head this week to see how it looks. If I like it, I can cancel the hair transplant and continue with the finasteride. If I don't like the look, I can carry on with the HT as sceduled.

Is one month enough time for a shaved head or buzz cut to grow out, before a HT? In particular, will one month's hair growth be enough to cover the FUT scar?

Also, perhaps even more importantly, I would start my job teaching 6 weeks after the hair transplant, and 10 weeks after the shaved head. Will that be enough time to hide the fact that I just got a HT?

i would try shaving your head before the HT and decide how you look. Even if you shave down to a zero, the average hair growth is 1/2" per month. Given your 10 weeks for regrowth you would be around 1.5" by school tme which is plenty to hide a scar. All that is needed normally is 1/2" to 3/4" to conceal any scarring. Actually this would probably work out perfectly for you.

    1. you can see how you look with a shaved head and make a decision

    2. you may like the look and cancel the HT which would be cost effective and leave you happy

if you dont like the look

    3. go forward with a HT which would be perfect because doctors like working with short hair anyways

    4. you will be fully grown out and no visible scare for school time

You are a winner in every scenario. I would really excercize shaving though. HT's are forever and a big commitment. They cost a lot of money and leave you scarred for life.

  5. I think some have mis-interptreted my post. It has nothing to do with being a salesmen...

I guess my question was to become a doctors rep and inform people of HT's...you kind of need to undergo the surgery to experience it...That way you can provide personal experiences as a method of answering questions.

Again it would be to help people in general but again without personal experiences you are kind of useless...no offense. its like talking about sky diving without actually doing it. taking others words for it doesnt work.

I am interested in pursuing this but I want my own personal gains as well...i.e. a discounted HT, etc...Again this is not my only motive but would be a nice benefit.

  6. I have not heard of this product but that doesnt mean its not legitimate. Numerous companies produce a rogaine type product with some form of minoxidil as the active ingredient. Obviously the concentrations and formulas differ from one to another.

In these situations what I recommend to people as they keep an eye on there own situation. If you have observed noticeable hairloss and it has not stopped, it might be effective to discontinue the treatment and see how your hair reacts. Or you could potentially try another minoxidil topical treatment.

Everyone reacts differently to these products. What works for me, might not work for you. Its important to try these drugs and be observant of the results. Taking pictures is probably the best way to document your findings.

  7. even though pictures would help to assess your situation, i will provide some tentative feedback...you state that you have always had this widows peak with little or no hair in the temple region. In my opinioon there will be no way to stiumlate hair growth in this area.

    1. there are no existing hair follicales to grow from

    2. current hair loss regiments will not grow back hair that is fully miniaturized in the full villus state. (essentially bare skin)

Your only option at this point is a HT and it would be for cosmetic purposes.

My question to you would be: how old are you? are you thinning anywhere (crown)? Have you tried any hairloss meds?

Again some pictures would help assess the situation better.

  8. it seems like you are very sub-concious about your hair...personally i think your hairline looks fine. many on here including myself would kill for it.

are you on any hairloss meds?

how healthy does the rest of your hair look? any thinning or miniaturized hairs?

you will probably find docs reluctant to get more aggressive with your hairline especially given your age. they wont want to waste donor hair on a lowered hairline especially if you start to lose hair later on in life.

i would leave it alone right now and get it touched up later (mid 30's) if it still bothers you. dont be premature with a HT. you will have to live with a scar or tiny white dots forever just because you want an overy aggressive hairline.

    just my 0.02.

  9. To elaborate...many HT patients feel as though the hairline is the most important aspect of appearance. It helps frame the face and it's the first thing people see. As a result it has the most dramatic effect when undergoing surgery. The reason why many docs won't touch the crown area until much older is because they want to ensure you will not recede any further in the hairline area. For this reason they dont want to use precious donor hair on the crown where people seem less interested later on. In addition I have read many instances in which people have had trouble growing in the crown. I think you look great as is. I urge you to continue using the big 3 with concealers. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  10. Thanks for sharing your story...here is my take, remember this is just my opinion. I dont think you are ready for a HT for a couple reasons (some of which are good reasons)

    1. You don't have enough temple recession in my opinion to warrant work. I think your hairline actually looks good. It's matured and suits your age. I would leave it alone.

    2. You are correct you are thinnest in your crown. Problem is you will have a hard time finding an ethical surgeon that will do your crown at 28.

At this point it's your best interest to wait.

  11. and what about when a significant other goes to pat your "buzz cut"? I don't see how this is a practical alternative.

even when you shave to a "0"...razor blade. the stubble shows yet no hair is felt when the head is touched. so i dont know where you were going with this comment.

I see it as an alternative if you want to keep your hair at a 0 or 1...Anything more and it may look a little silly. The only concern I have is the discoloration (greenish or blueish tint)....that would look awful.

My guess is that it would get splotchy after a lot of touch ups as well.

  12. Tnx, bud.

The main problem I have with finasteride are the sexual sides, obviously. In any other situation I would take the risk, no questions asked. If the effects were too awful I would (like you said) lower the dosage or stop altogether. Piece of cake...

    However.

I've been reading up quite a bit on this subject (don't worry, I mainly stayed clear of that "horror show" forum, haha) and quite a lot of guys are still suffering from the effects years after they've stopped using the drug. I guess I won't know until I take the plunge, eh!

You haven't had any traces of memory loss or constant headaches or anything like that in the last year, have you?

    Cheers, again.

I have had no memory loss

  13. Holy macaroni!!!11@ :o

That's quite an impressive regain, you should be thrilled dude!

Being that your the same age as I & we have roughly the same hairline (although your in the "after" phase whereas i'm simply beginning my teatment) you're my new inspiration. If I could mantain my hair as decent as you seem to be doing then i'll be stoked and die a happy man.

To be honest I was unsure about using finasteride because of the quote/unquote "horror stories" i've heard from mysterious, unnamed sources. I would rather be as bald as an egg rather then see my little guy limp and lifeless but your story has convinced me to take the plunge. I'll make an apointment with a doctor next week. I do have a feq questions though. It would be awesome if you could answer 'em.

Did you have any difficultes obtaining the prescription from your dermatologist and why did you decide to use Minoxidil instead of Rogaine? Also do you use any hair conditioner to go alongside teh Nizoral Shampoo? Cheers, and personally - I think you look ace with your current, buzzed look. If I were in your shoes I wouldn't even consider a HT, but that's just my opinon. Good luck with the future, man. :)

Oh, and how often do you buzz your hair? Once a week, fortnight etc...?

thanks for the kind words...i am glad this thread is serving as inspiration for you and others fighting hairloss. the drugs really do work!!! my advice is to at least try finasteride. if you expereince side effects then stop the treatment altogether or reduce the dosage. you wont know until you try!!!

ok so i will address your questions...

    1. you shouldnt have any problems getting a prescription from a dermy. i received mine through a hair restoration surgeon.

    2. I used generic rogaine called minoxidil for about 2-4 months. minoxidil is the active ingredient in rogaine. multiple manufacturers produce the product. it was such a pain though. it is very noticeable when applied and it dries with a white chaulky residue. thats why i gave it up. didnt fit my lifestyle.

    3. on the days that i dont use nizoral, i use head and shoulders.

    4. i actually shave my head every morning with a blade. i like it better than a buzz. it just looks cleaner. personal preference of course.

let me know if you have any other questions.

  14. Keep in mind that 1% of the population has any idea what a hair transplant donor scar is or what it looks like. If you see small patches in the back of someone's head, you're not going to notice for more than a second or two and likely assume they're just parts of the scalp that lack density, a bad haircut, etc. I wear my hair medium-short and have average density and you cannot notice a scar unless the hair is wet and you're standing behind me very close up staring directly at the back of my head. How often does that scenario occur?

idk about you but the example cited in this thread...his scar is very noticeable from every angle. its almost as bad as a toupe line...if he wore his hair longer I agree it would go away but not all people like to wear longer hair. especially in the back.
