I have experienced some loss over the years, but it's been pretty slow and steady. 

Currently cut short, so coverage looks less.

Will be looking at another surgery soon to add more density.

I had 4300 grafts done by Dr Path in Bangkok about 8 years ago now (2014 from memory). 

Overall hair has held up well, but I am now looking to add some more density. I previously had FUT done; I've got a pretty minimal scar and would like to keep it that way, so I'm looking at FUE or other advancements. (I've been out of touch with HT advancements since I got my last one done)

I remember there were several Turkish surgeons with very 'clean' results with quite reasonable prices. I'm probably looking for another 3000-4000 grafts if all goes to plan.

Is there a general consensus amongst the group about who might fit those requirements? 

I feel a bit cheeky posting this, because I know I should do my own research, but even if you can throw me a few breadcrumbs to get me going I'd really appreciate it.

I'm located in EU these days, so I'd prefer someone around here, as I mentioned above, I thought Turkey might be a good destination, as it was the place I nearly chose had I not went with Bangkok last time.

Sent you a PM, but I'll repeat what I said here for anyone else.

I'm now at 16 months and by chance started keeping a food diary.

Noticed whenever I would eat processed foods, particularly things with Wheat in them (Baked foods, pastries, breads, pastas) that I would always get an itchy head and I would notice hair-fall with it.

Took me about 1 month of keeping the diary to figure out what was causing it, just by trial and error. I've eliminated those kinds of foods now and the itch that most people seem to correlate with hair-loss and increased DHT has now gone. My hair slowly thickened over about 3 months but probably not the the level I had before the itch and hair-thinning started.

This is happening to me.

Had HT about 11 months ago.

Have been on finasteride for years.

Had really good growth until a few months ago when I started noticing an itch in my head which seemed to coincide with a thinning.

Seems to be progressively getting worse.

He just came across as an ignorant racist.

Made some comments that Caucasian patients dont respect doctors and always want to sue them if some thing goes wrong with the operation, then a few other weird comments about how they have more fat and elasticity in their scalps because they eat cheese.

I just thought is this guy serious? In the end it was his lack of professionalism and his ability to not want to deal with graft counts of over 2000 that led me to choose path.

I'm at ten months and am experiencing something similar.

The region of transplanted hair, which was hairless for a long period of time has started to itch and tingle incessantly and have noticed a thinning that wasn't visible a month or two ago.

I did start escitalopram for anxiety a month ago, which I have now stopped as I half thought it could be the reason.

It's kind of appalling the lack of knowledge doctors have regarding this kind of problem.

Started seeing significant changes this month. Has thickened considerably. Hoping for more to come. I'm a much more confident man than I was before

I'm a single guy, so I don't have a significant other to take the photo for me. But with that said, I have tried to find it and it's invisible to my eye.

I went to see Pong before going to see Path and in the end I felt safer in Dr Path's hands. There were a few comments that Dr Pong made that left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm sure you're happy with your results nonetheless.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't worry if I was you. Obsession can be an unhealthy thing.

As others have already said, Propecia (Finasteride being the generic name) is a good start. And if finances are of concern you can split a 5mg Proscar into 5ths to lower your costs.

Minoxidil and surgery considerations, that's just overkill imho.

@Machman, it ends up being around 20k for a mega-session from memory. (I did some research on Hasson a few months ago, so please correct me if I'm wrong)

Congratulations on the procedure. That is a solid number of grafts that should serve you well , esp since the back of your crown is still somewhat intact with decent native hair density. Would look forward to seeing your progress. Are you taking any meds ?

Thanks Fortune, after having the procedure the future started to feels a lot more promising with regards to my emotional outlook and confidence.

I've seen quite a lot of growth in my hairline within the last month, but it's quite hard to see in photos, so I wanted to wait longer till it's more visible before I post another update.

As for my medication. I've been on Finasteride for the last 5 years.

I was advised that generics may not have the same efficacy by Dr Path, so I've recently switched from a generic to MSD Proscar which is split into 1mg and taken daily.

I've avoided taking Minoxidil as I have too many negative side-effects for it to be worth my while.

Post op scar at around 1 and 2 months.

I suffered some shock loss from below the donor area, which took about 2 months to grow back, Profile shot of the scar shows in that awkward phase were the hair isn't quite long enough to disguise it, and shock loss accentuates.

The growth in the crown and hairline so far is just my existing hair, nothing new so to speak, just yet. But I am seeing thickening in the hairline already. Will update post as time goes along

I'm in my 30s from the English speaking world. My first post to this site was 6 years ago, since then I've used this site extensively for research on hair loss options, whether they be transplants or medication, etc. I have a lot to thank for this site! Anyhow, after a lot of research I ended up with two options for doctors in Thailand. So, while living in Thailand,I went and had 4300 grafts done with Dr Path in Bangkok.

I don't have the breakdown on follicle counts,

Diffuse patterned hair-loss.

Strategy was to replace loss at front right side with highest density, decreasing density to left hairline, and crown, in-between existing hair.

Didn't suffer much shock loss, although this was a possibility going with this strategy.

Photos: Pre-op (long) and pre-op buzzed and about 5 days post-op. I apologise for the orientation problems. I wasn't sure how to fix that.

I think this is all down to your Minoxodil usage.

Maybe the moral of this story is don't take Minoxidil.

I hate the drug myself and even though I had some hair surgeons suggest I use it, I wouldn't entertain the thought for longer than 5 seconds.

Back in 2009 I was having Facial edema's and wrinkle formation after about 6 months of usage. I wouldn't touch the stuff again if my life depended on it.

It's obviously effected your hair cycle and you'll need more time to see the final outcome.

Unfortunate, but most likely true.

But it's not all bad my friend, you still have hair on your head, you may just need to rethink your hair style for a few more months.

I think we forget what life is like without the ability to undertake independent research about doctors before we make this kind of life changing decision. Imagine pre-internet times, or the lack of English ability.

Thanks for the response Aquafria. I just want to thicken and lower my hairline about 1 cm and get stronger tempular locks on the side(the part above my sideburns.) Do you think this would be achievable with 1000 grafts or would I need closer to 1500.

 

Overall were you happy with Dr Path? I'm surprised about u not being happy with his wound closure as they usually have an excellent reputation. Like u mentioned there's no way I'd get FUT just for 1000. But maybe for 1500-2000. His clinic does appear more FUT based. According to Dr Path in his hands the end result from FUT and FUE are the same. A lot of his results posted online are for large 3000 graft sessions for Norwood 3-5s. He has a few for FUE. Maybe I should ask him to send me some more results on smaller jobs ie 1000-1500.

 

What do you think of his hairlines? They seem nice to me, natural and not too aggressive. What are your thoughts?

Firstly, yes, I was happy with Path. I think he's a great doctor.

I didn't say I was unhappy with his wound closure, just that, given his pricing in comparison to his regional peers and some other options within Europe, you should be on the receiving end of a gold-standard in hair transplants.and his wound-closure doesn't quite meet that standard. It's good, but it could be better. You only have to look at ex-patients from Hasson & Wong to see what I would consider to be the gold standard. (staples + trichophytic)

You'll also have an approach that you should minimise the number of surgeries you receive, and maximise your grafts, because you only have a limited number of grafts, 6000-8000 in general for your entire life, and with each successive FUT operation you have, you are reducing your scalp laxity and donor supply, as well as giving yourself a life-time scar. Not to mention the recovery time involved.

This is something I didn't appreciate when I consulted with Dr Pong (Chiang Mai) his approach is to take several small operations.

If I were you, and I was a stubborn and headstrong as you are being, I would go to Europe and explore the FUE options there; you'll find better FUE doctors there, than in Asia.

I would call into question the morality of any doctor who performed FUT on someone with non-stabilised hair-loss, such as you.

As for the amount of grafts, to answer that question, really, you need to visit a doctor and have them measure the area concerned.
