  1. Hey guys, quick question. I noticed spots of blood on a bandage I put over the recipient area before bed. It's about 19 days post op. The bandage was so the polysporin wouldn't rub off on my pillow. Did anyone else notice small bits of blood at some point within the first month? There's no graft loss from what I can tell. Perhaps some follicles bled slightly when I was showering? I wasn't vigorous but I suppose when the shed hairs fall they could cause slight trauma. Pics attached. Thanks in advance!

  2. Hey guys,

15 days post op FUT, I was told by my Rahal rep that it's ok to touch the recipient area and shower normally. I pulled lightly at some hairs in the receipient area and they came out very easily. No resistance, and no sensation of a hair being pulled out, though my scalp is somewhat numb. Some looked like "J" shaped, others were just hairs with no J shape or mini black "root" looking structure, and others were just straight hairs with a small black enlargement (bulb?). There were no white fleshy bulbs, which I've read are the actual follicles. I've posted a couple of pictures here. Does this look like normal hair that's ready to shed?

    Thanks in advance

  3. 2863,

I don't think it will do much of anything to the scar in the long-term -- improve or worsen it. I personally don't like patients touching too much in the post-op because I think it causes more irritation/inflammation in the area. Again, I don't think it affects the incision line in the long-term, but it's usually best -- in my humble opinion -- to minimize touching as much as you can and let the body heal. I generally tell patients to limit manipulation/touching to washing and during application of things like vitamin E -- if they want to use it.

Definitely touch base with your clinic and see what they recommend. Their advice is the one you should follow "to a T."

    Best of luck.

    Hello Doctor,

Thanks for the reply. Ill be speaking to the clinic rep tomorrow.

  4. Hey guys, quick question,

Did anyone else massage their FUT donor site after about 2 weeks, or at all? I have been using the baby shampoo/water solution to wash the area, and massaging during, as well as massaging the polysporin. I read conflicting information online - some people recommend incision massage, others say it may worsen the scar. However, these were for regular surgeries, so not necessarily applicable to hair transplants. I will be speaking to my Rahal rep tomorrow but thought I'd post here as well.

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Hey guys,

Has anyone used a scar gel for the FUT scar? I just got the stitches removed, and wanted to know how long to wait before using. I.e. is it safe to use such products immediately after stitches removed as the area could still be tender. Also, please name brands you used. Thanks!

  6. It looks like a lot of your grafts are in existing hair so it'll help a lot.

I think it'd allow for a sense result with a natural fade into a hairline. If your hairline is see through it probably won't be for too far in.

    Great. Thanks.

Also, in terms of grafts. Once they're implanted, and no dislodgment within the first 10-12 days, does that mean all of the transplanted hairs will grow out?

  7. My procedure was four and a half years ago, but I do remember the experience as well as the fears that all HT patients have. Everything you've described sounds typical to me. Normal and healthy.

Another thing I can remember about my own experience is that I still had questions, despite working for the doctor and being knowledgeable about the subject; so if you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch.

Yep. Money/self esteem. People get protective.

  8. The grafts should be secure by day 8 and I doubt if you've done any damage, but I would advise you as well as patients of any doctor not to touch before 14 days. You've made a good investment in your hair and it would be a shame to go and spoil it.

I can remember being at your stage and I understand the temptation to touch the grafts and try and speed along the process. It sounds like you've just brushed away some of the looser scabs and crusts and I know that they do come away very easily after a week.

You'll find that the transplanted hairs kind of pull together in clumps and create what looks like gaps or 'valleys' between them. This is totally normal.

I can see a nice dense result in your future and I hope you keep us updated.

    Thanks for the reply.

That's pretty much what's been happening. I haven't picked at any of the scabs at all. I've also checked the crusts that have fallen and at most were just crust, and 30-40% had a hair in them, but no bulb or anything signifying additional tissue. I also don't see any unusual gaps between follicles, when clumping/valleys are accounted for. All good signs?

  9. Stay away, nay, stay FAR away.

It is a second rate tool only utilized by second rate physicians...if they can even be called that.

Any "clinic" that advertises the robot (NeoGraft, Artas) over the physician is to be avoided.

Also stay away from chain clinics such as Bosley, Hair Club.

    And beware of celebrity endorsements.

Take your sweet time picking a doctor, don't rush into this, now is the time to buckle down and do your homework.

A fair price for FUT from a trustworthy surgeon is 4 to 5 dollars a graft. I'd be skeptical of the skill and demand of a doctor who does it for less.

Explains why Rahal stopped the robotic hair transplants.

  10. Hey guys, new to the forum. Thought I'd post some pics.

    Surgeon: Rahal

    Grafts: 2863

    Type: FUT

Basically, what I want to know is how does it look so far? Rahal was saying not touch the area for 14 days, but today I have been gently running my hand over the area crusts have been falling off, want to make sure things look ok.
