Hi Everyone,
I had been a member previously on the forum on and off for years and thought I would create a new account since I couldn't remember my prior login. My hair loss journey is as follows.
I began noticing hair loss at a very young age.( in my late teens and early 20s. (I am currently 34. At the time my hairloss was mostly in the front.
Before I begin, I wanted to add that my regimin has been using Proscar every other day and rogaine on the back. Use Nizoral shampoo twice a week with Revivogen shampoo ((Before I used to use Nioxin and went to Revivogen about 6 years ago.
In August 2005, I had a hair transplant with Dr. Tessler and had 1300 grafts. You can see pre and post op photos of this from 2005 of this procedure. I believe it definitely made me thicker in the front, as this was the area that I had that was thinning. I was only 23 at the time of this procedure. But, remember my hair loss was starting early. I believe it did make my hair in the front thicker.
In May 2008, I had a procedure with Dr. Paul Shapiro, as my hair was starting to thin and I wanted to get more hair. You can see pictures from this also in my blog which I will link below. The problem with this procedure post op was that the hair didn't particularly take as much in the front as we had hoped. D r. Shapiro had mentioned that it may be close 50-60% in the front. The graft number here was about 2300.
In January 2010, I had another revision procedure just in the front by Dr. Shapiro. This was roughly 200-300 in the front. (Pictures are in below link)
This one did not take as previously thought in the front. But, as you can see, my hair is still thick it just wasn't as effective as hoped in the front. Dr. Paul Shapiro had agreed on this and wanted to see if I may have better growth with PRP-acell.
In December 2015, Dr. Shapiro wanted me to get a biopsy done to see if I may have Lichen Planen Polaris (LPP). The biopsy was done on the front of my hair the suspicious area where growth was not as high and towards the back of the my head where I use the rogaine. The results of this were a bit inconclusive, the Dr./Physician Assistant had mentioned that while he can't rule out LPP, it could be, but he can't narrow. He had mentioned that it looks indicative of male pattern baldness. The Dr. said he wouldn't treat me as if I have LPP because he wasn't sure that I had it.
In May of 2016, I had the PRP acell procedure done hopefully to stimulate growth. From here, I had still noticed that my hairs were still thinning and it was everyone. I have always had my hair go thinner but the troubling part of it seems, to be that some of the transplanted hair either went away or didn't grow in the from. You can probably see this from my pics.
Coming to December 2016, Dr. Shapiro mentioned that there is a new form of LPP that most Dr.s are not aware of have diagnosed. He suggested that I go to a dermatologist who specializes in hair. Next week I have an appointment with Dr. McAndrews in Southern CA. He may do another biopsy, I am not sure.
But, he is a dermatologist who does Hair transplants.
Over the summer, 2016 I had met with Dr. Hasson just so he can view my hair and see if he can see anything that may indicate LPP. he stated that he didn't see this.
I would be hopeful for another procedure. I do not know if I have this new form of LPP because it is rare. I'm just trying to figure out what my next steps are. It's very confusing.
I also wanted to add I'm not sure what else could cause hair loss or transplanted hairs to go away or the yeild to not be as strong. I drink casein protein during the week, maybe 3-4 times. Maybe that has caused something similar? I have been using generic finasteride the last couple of years. Not sure what it is, I thought maybe it could be a tech that did not place the grafts properly? Someone had suggested this to me once, its just hard to determine.
Does anyone have any advice or had similar experiences or have some knowledge about something similar happening to them? I am hoping by viewing my pictures, you may get a better idea. I hope to hear from you guys soon. Have a great weekend.
