  1. IMO there is no danger from finasteride to the hair, the effects are all positive The only problem can be other side effects (sexual function, mood etc)
  2. Hello all I've been taking finasteride (proscar cut up) for about 2 years seemingly without any significant side effects, certainly no sexual side effects. However recently I had a bad period of illness, which led into chronic fatigue/insomnia depression etc. It was at this point I began to read a bit more about how finasteride can also cause/aggravate these symptoms. At this point I naturally panicked about having used it. Has it been harming me all along? Have I been using too much? I thought the only side effects were related to sexual function, but then I began reading about mental side effects. To make a long story short, I read that it can have some effect on neurosteroids, for example allopregnanolone. I also read it can lower the hormone DHEA. And this can happen during periods of stress and depression too (cortisol rises, DHEA falls). As far as I know, both are important for mood and general wellbeing. Well, I picked up a pack of 10mg DHEA. I started using it last week. And I must say that after a few days I did start feeling a lot better. My mood seemed to improve and I slept better. However this could just be a coincidence or placebo effect. However, last night i started feeling a bit of itchy scalp. And then I started reading that DHEA has to be used cautiously and that it can increase hair loss by increasing DHT, cause scalp itch, etc etc. So, is DHEA generally safe to take with finasteride? I didn't have extensive tests to check cortisol/DHEA levels but everything I read about them seemed to suggest they may be out of balance with me. I figured it could not harm trying a small level of DHEA daily but now I am not so sure. Any input on this would be really helpful. Does anybody take this supplement along with their fin? Thank you
