  1. Laser isn't a permanent hair removal solution and only works with certain hair and skin pigments. Electrolysis is permanent and will work on any hair type, but will take several clearings to break down the dermal papilla. Both can carry a risk of scarring if done by an inexperienced or bad aesthetician. I had done both and electrolysis is definitely the better of the two if you're doing a small area and don't want the hair back ever.

  2. Using Gravimetric Analysis1 ?volis ONE has shown a statistically significant 80.2% reduction in hair loss over 112 days (16 weeks) with twice daily use. Hair differentiation (or anagen/telogen ratio, a measure of growing versus resting hair follicles) improved with an increase of 44.2% in growing follicles during the same period, as analysed by the Van Scott “hair pluck” method2. Hair release and recovery (overall improvement in hair quality and volume) was quantified by PhotoGrammetrix™3 measurements and has shown an improvement by a statistically significant 143.3%.

The trial was conducted by AMA Laboratories, INC. in New York, a leading independent CRO specialising in dermatological product testing

So it basically does what Minoxidil does.

  3. I have not seen anything in regards to Avodart continuing their testings in the hair loss field. However, there may be a generic available soon in the US market. With that said, you can still get Avodart for off label use if you want it now.

  4. The slightest hormonal changes can induce a telogen effluvium. This can be acute or chronic. I'm going to assume the Dutasteride is lowering your DHT a little bit. If your hair loss continues past 3 to 4 months, you are most likely a non responder or have another contributing factor that is causing it. I don't believe taking 2 Dutasteride pilla a week is gonna do much more than Finasteride. With its long half life it needs to build up to at least 15mg or more for it to even take effect on the prostate gland. At this level and even higher are where the hair results show from their tests. You will never reach that level taking 2 a week. I'd honestly get off the Finasteride cause taking 2 Dutasteride a week is equivalent to taking 5mg of Finasteride a day. All the Finasteride will do is cause dips and peaks with your hormonal levels.

giantanddwarf to answer your question. If you are that sensitive to Finasteride you will most likely be sensitive to Dutasteride. It is not the type of drug you take that causes the side effects. It's your bodies sensitivity to the hormonal changes that cause them. You could go the natural route of Saw Palmetto and still get the same side effects if you're that sensitive. Everyones body is different and not everyone responds well to it.

  5. 1. How important Finasteride (Propecia) is after HT?

A: That depends on the extent of hair loss. If you have enough native hair to preserve it may help keeping it longer. However, it doesn't work for everyone, and it will not regrow what you have already lost.

    2. Does one get more benefits if he start few weeks before HT, instead of afterward?

A; The benefit is getting it into you system early so that the shock loss coexists with the hair transplant. Finasteride will NOT prevent shock lost despite what others say.

    3. What is a recommended dose of Finasteride to avoid side effects and does brand also make any difference (Cipla or Propecia)?

A: There isn't any. Side effects are the result of ones bodies reaction to the hormonal deficiency the drug creates. Everyones body reacts differently. Side effects are low risk gamble.

    4. What about A-cell Injections? Is that really help to boost the growth after HT?

    A: I cannot answer this.

    5. Which one you recommend new or used Harris Punch and is that actually effect on success of HT?

    A: I cannot answer.

    6. DR. Bhatti have two packages for INR 89 and INR 99. Which one you recommend and why?

    A: I cannot answer.

    Thanks everyone in advance. :-)

  6. Shedding from Finasteride is called Telogen Effluvium and it's caused by the hormonal changes from Finasteride. Telogen Effluvium is when a higher than normal amount of Anagen (Growth Phase) hairs transition to the Catagen (Dormant Phase) where the hair basically releases from the root and eventually falls out 2 to 3 months later (Telogen Phase) before cycling back to Anagen again.

So if you were on Finasteride for a month and shedding started, the telogen effluvium would still continue its cycle regardless of discontinuing. Most of the hairs lost will return unless they were extremely miniaturized. It would be pointless to discontinue the drug a month after shedding starts, because it should subside at the same time if you stayed on it. You would probably be better off riding it out to see if the drug worked.

  7. I was on 5mg a day of Finasteride for 2 and a half years and suffered massive shedding non stop. In fact when I quit Finasteride the shedding was much less but still present. I eventually went back on it before starting Avodart and for once I am not shedding.

  8. 4 days off Finasteride wouldn't be long enough to cause a massive shed. It takes many months for DHT levels to return to normal after stopping Finasteride, and the Dutasteride will take effect well before. Will you shed more after it takes effect? It's possible as any major hormonal changes can trigger telogen effluvium. I didn't experience a shed when I switched however, everyone responds differently.

  9. I honestly think these drugs are hit or miss as far as side effects go. I'm transgendered, and have been on the strongest anti androgens for several years along with estradiol. Finasteride 5mg from January 2012 to January 2015 before switching to 1mg Avodart and I can say I never experienced any side effects. If you are then simply go off them. However, don't let those crying about side effect discourage you from trying at the least. They may work out for you.
