  1. Hi NM156,

Thank you for your support. I'm glad I've been able to help you. What Hairthere said is true, if hair is curly growing out of the scalp it is also curly growing under the scalp. I think I should clarify and reiterate however that curly hair can be taken just fine but a larger punch is necessary to reduce transection and when you start using a large punch the benefit of FUE begins to diminish. Like I said, some people don't care and will prefer a larger dot to a linear scar. I'm not advocating one way or the other mind you, just saying it how it is.

Understood, Thanks for taking the time to answer my question , Joe. It makes things so much easier.

  2. Nm, not 100% certain, but I think curly hair is tougher because the root is not straight making extraction more unpredictable and therefore difficult. The other issue with FUE not mentioned is that it's average cost is prohibitive for a lot of folks.

Thanks for your input, man. I appreciate you helping me out.

  3.

There are also some types of hair that do not respond well to FUE such as hair that has a strong curl to it. This too can be worked with but a larger punch may be necessary and this can defeat the purpose of FUE with larger dots that form as a result but to many this is still preferred to a linear scar.

    Joe,

First I want to say that I have enjoyed your posts on this forum and you have provided me with tons of information and I thank you. The bold portion of your above answer is something that I was not aware of. So it's safe to say that if your natural hair resembles the pic of Slash below, then FUT is the way to go? Why is it that curly hair does not respond well to FUE?

    Thanks

  4. I'm surprised this doctor has not been mentioned more often on this site. I always read about Dr. Umar when it comes to California doctors. I think Dr. Diep is one to watch. I will say though, I think his website needs some sprucing up. He definitely would benefit from a site makeover. Congrats man, it's looking good! :D

  5. Thanks for those kind words:rolleyes:.

It would look far stranger if the doc had given me a patch of high density hair that was totally out of kilt with the rest of my head. This is of coarse (sic) why hair pieces can look unnatural. Anyway, I'm sure the doc would appreciate it if you emailed him to let him know where he went wrong with the density distribution:).

I should add that I blow dry my hair backwards every morning and apply a 'clay' styling product and sometimes a bit of hairspray. This does have a tendency to clump hairs together and make it look slightly thinner (wet hair effect).

Funny that you mention Lorenzo as having the best hairlines. He does not feature in most people's top 3 list. I'm not knocking the man but his results photos are almost exclusively shot from a 45 degree angle down onto the top of the patients head. A lot of the time you cant even see the hairline properly.

With your expert knowledge on photos perhaps you're seeing something we're not.

Anyway, here's one last photo of my 'not very natural', 'strange looking', 'hmm interesting' hairline. Sorry about the angle, flash, lighting, sun tan....:D

Matt, I happen to think that Dr. Konior did an outstanding job on your ht. Your results are a huge part of the reason I have chosen him to do mine when the time comes. Thanks also for your contributions to this site.

    Cheers

  6. That is a given. Body hair is body hair. Beard hair is generally 3 times thicker in caliber than scalp hair whilst hair around the body can very greatly from scalp hair and also body hair from other areas. There is also the issue of how long body hair can grow. However, most guys who undergo surgeries like this case do not have a plentiful scalp donor supply, in fact, they hardly have any scalp donor supply due to it being depleted via strips, plugs, previous FUE, flaps etc etc. In cases like these, it is either body/beard hair or continue living with a strange and incomplete look. I think the vast majority of individuals would choose body hair and results like this one rather than the look the patient before his major repair with Dr Umar. In cases like these, it is not about getting body hair to mimic scalp hair's appearance, it is about giving the patient a complete look. Just my opinion anyway.

    Thanks Mickey.
