  1. Great info Will88. Thanks for the response! It seems everyone's opinion of long/short hair is a bit different. Is your hair long as London's or shorter? Any chance you have a couple of pics to post?

Mine is probably a similar length if not a little shorter than his.

And no unfortunately I'm not game enough to post pics of my own!

To add, I think I find short hair easier to blend because I like a messy style where the hair stands up.

Trying a messy style with the hair standing up on end when it's long makes the unit hair sit in clumps where as the donor hair sits more separately. It creates a weird looking gap. Having the unit shorter allows the thick unit hair and my thick donor hair to just kind of buzz together naturally.

However If you style your hair flatter to the scalp then longer hair is probably easier to blend.

Anyway, what's more important for the blend is getting the color and density right.

I have very thick donor hair so it's easy for me. Might be alot harder for those with thin donor hair.

  2. Great, that looks good. Thanks for the update.

Would you say it is best to leave the hair cut/style longer? A short cut I think would be hard to blend and keep blended.

How long have you had now and how often to do you change/reattach? Are you active, sweat a lot? I am in the gym and play soccer often. I also hear the sun can change the color over time, or shorter time.

I find short cuts are much easier to blend.

You often get kind of weird gaps or change in hair behaviour where the hair parts when its long. When its short it just blends perfectly in my experience. But I use product to get the natural hair to stand up with the unit.

The sun and shampooing it was giving me big color problems at first. It was fading fast.

But I discovered Keune coloring products which have extremely specific colors.

And I have an ashy brown very similar to London which is apparently hard to color without having redish tones. But one of the very specific tones in Keune's line is the perfect match so color issues are no longer a problem at all. Whenever it fades a little i just brush some of that through and leave it for 5-10 mins and it's perfect again.

I go to the gym and do a bit of running, but I've been told I must sweat less than most people or something because after a month of wearing it's always still nailed on tight and difficult to get off.

  3. I am an actor. I have to wear wigs...several wigs in each act.

I am very bald in the middle of my head. and considering a transplant for my receding hair line. Is there such a thing as a partial replacement system for the area that is bald. Unfortunately, it's not thin, there are areas that are with no hair.

I am totally in the dark about all this stuff.

Also would like to know of success stories of transplant docs. I can go whereever, but it would be great if there was someone in NY

    Thanks,

Yes you can get partial replacement systems for just where you need it. Used to have one myself before switching to the full.

Some people would probably recommend you just get a full system if you're getting one anyway. Obviously depends on what you're comfortable with in the end.

  4. Only problem I have is that if I do any excersise or take a shower the glue on the hairline comes loose and I have to reglue it which is a pain in the arse but I'm going in for a check up and maintenance tomorrow afternoon so hopefully they can do something for me.

Given that you've only had it attached for a week that's odd.

Perhaps they started you off with a weaker than usual adhesive just to experiment?

I usually avoid wetting my hair or doing anything that will cause me to sweat alot for about 40+ hours after getting it bonded. It still hasn't set properly during this period and is more vulnerable.

For me sometimes during exercise or heavy sweating it might become looseish around a point at the edge, but once you cool down the glue kind of just re-sets and goes back to being as strong as before.

Maybe try having the shower on a cooler temperature also.

  5. Thanks for the feedback, I'm really happy with the result and wish I'd done it earleir to be honest.

I'm not sure what a lace system is but with this one you can see the scalp.

This is what a lace base looks like:

This is what a skin base looks like:

    17.jpg

A good quality version of either type will allow you to see the scalp without looking suspicious.

Can you tell which of these yours is?

Also, did they use adhesive all over your scalp? or just the edges? or did they use tape around the edges instead?

I just ask these things because your good experience with World HS is making me very tempted to switch to them :P

Just a bit further to drive is the only downside.

  6. Hey Matt. Congratulations, looks great!

I thought the same thing about the front feeling too thick at first. Got used to it pretty quickly though. Yours doesn't appear unnaturally thick at all.

May I ask what the base is like? Is it a lace? or a transparent plastic sheath?

Also, here's some good tips for making them last longer without fading, getting dry or thinning (ignoring the fact that it's aimed at DIY wearers):

  7. I just decided that I didn't really want to mess around and I wanted to get something ontop of my head ASAP...lol.

I figured that most of the larger companies that offer hair systems are offering pretty much the same service and a similar price with a similar product. That was my thoughts at the time.

If it looks good it'll be the best thing I could possibly do for myself. My hair loss has really affected my life, I don't go out without a cap on, haven't had the confidence to meet girls or have a girlfriend since it started. I think this will change things if it looks good and I'm feeling good about the future.

Just manage your expectations. It'll take some getting used to at first. Also might take a few tries before you get it looking as good as you want.

I'm still on my first full sized unit and there are several things I don't like about it that I can't wait to fix on the next.

Worth giving them a phone call about the lack of taking measurements. At least to understand why that is.

  8. Hey,

I couldn't see any of their clients as there were only two other guys in the studio at the time and they were both there for medical replacement therapy of some sort.

They didn't do a head mold just a hair colour matching with hair swatches and that's all. Didn't think to ask about it at the time, now I'm a bit worried that they didn't do it as I may not be getting the best quality...too late now as I'm locked into a 12 month contract...I just hope it looks good.

    What do you think?

    Matt

The fact that they didn't do a mould probably isn't anything to be too concerned about, but I don't know I've never ordered one myself.

For me they did a very quick one just for a rough idea. Then once it came in and I was shaved they got the exact mould. The first one they got me was much larger than I needed so had plenty of cutting room.

Do you happen to know what their opening hours are?

  9. Okay,

Went into World Hair Systems in Parramatta yesterday for my consultation, It's actually an Ashley & Martins but they don't tell you that on the web page for some reason. The place is on the 2nd floor of an office building with no advertising billboards so it's quite private which is good. They had me fill out a form with everything from medicare numbers to past health history etc...

I had my consultation with a rep named Mat who tried to convince me to try talking pills and other stuff with his sales routine which I had no interest in. when I told him I was really only interested in a hair system his reply was that if I was content with wearing a 'wig' for the rest of my life and ending up bald that's okay ( A last passive aggressive attempt to make me cave in and buy his chemicals I guess)...he was polite about it though though. I did find it annoying they'd attempt to pitch their medical solutions at me for 20 minutes when I clearly stated I was only interested in a hair system.

Once he realised I wasn't going to budge from my position he rang the Hair Systems department and took me to meet Tanya who does the cut ins and refusions, I decided to take the plunge and took out a 12 month contract that includes a new system every month with cut-ins and unlimited check-ins for maintenance, cleaning, so I could go in every week to have the system taken off and have the scalp cleaned or whatever which is good.

I'm told that it could take a week or two for my system to arrive, I'll let you know how the cut-in goes...hopefully it'll look good I may post a pic or two for your opinion on the job if you don't mind being a critic. I doubt people close to me would be as truthful about it as someone like yourself who's been through the same thing.

    Cheers Craig,

    Matt

Not at all surprised that they tried so hard to sell you the meds. They did that to me too and were extremely persistent.

Funny thing is they charge like $4000 dollars per year for them too when you can get em for around $50 a year at a pharmacy.

Some other things in this story do surprise me though. Mainly that you jumped in so quickly.

May I ask which of their packages did you get?

I hope you know which base they are making it in. That could depend on whether you can get the style you wanted.

Also, did they order you the full cap? or just for ontop?

Looking at their website, I think their prices are actually really good given that it includes unlimited servicing with no extra charge. I'll be keeping them in mind if I don't want to bother DIY'ing.

Also surprised that they said a week or two. I thought it generally took more like two months.

I hope you've grown your hair out long to make the switch more seemless. Using concealers like Caboki in the mean time makes the switch easier too. The unit will probably feel overly thick to you at the front at first.

  10. Hi, are you in Sydney? would you mind telling me which clinic you go to?

    Cheers,

    Matt

    Hi Will88

I guess that you sort of addicted to having the unit because you don’t want the bald look and every time I have the unit removed there is this ugly bald bloke staring back at me that I don’t recognise.

I considered transplants, but when I went for a consult, the doctor told me that my hair loss was aggressive and I should wait until full pattern was known. He pretty much said wait till you’re bald and then consider the transplants?

I decided to look into other options, which led me to AHS.

You might want to consider coolpiece, northwest lace and toplace for online hair replacement systems. Northwest is the best for customer service. But there is great place in Melbourne called precision hair pus.

You mentioned strange circumstances got your into systems. What were the strange circumstances – I’m intrigued.

Let me know if you have any questions - more than happy to give my perspective.

    Cheers

    Craig

    I PM'd you both. ;)

  11. hey sorry if this sounds kind of dumb but i would really like to know. Can men wear women hair systems? What i mean is can i get the same density as women do and just get a masculine haircut? I just notice how the mens hair peices tends to be much thinner and reveal a lot of scalp on their hair systems (which is natural due to age everyone thins). I'm a young man and my hair doesnt show as much scalp as the men's hair systems do. So i was looking at the females photos and they have nice thick hair which i think would suit my age. Plus the women with alopecia get these full lace systems that cover the temple points and everything which I need because mine are dissapearing.

    Strangely worded question.

Can you get a system with denser hair than older guys get? Yes. It works even better on younger guys with thicker hair because it's easier to blend.

  12. Hey Billy. I'll back you up here, I became a wearer recently too and I'm very very happy so far too.

Big self esteem boost and improvement in life quality.

Unlike you I got in early when I was still able to cover my hairloss with concealers. So I grew my hair out long, kept using concealers and then switched to a system.

It just looked like I got a good haircut to everyone. No one knows except the ones I told. :D

Just curious but did you get the skin base? or a lace?

    hi every one;

Mr billy seems satisfied, that is a good news for me. i have few questions for him to answer:

    1) I am not sure about how much is it secured. i fear that it will move or even detached or moved away due to wind, pulling, swimming, playing games....what would you say about this?

    2) how long should one wear it before reattaching to ensure it is re glowed and sticks all over again properly. i mean the maintenance of it should be weekly, monthly, daily?

    3) i live here in Afghanistan, where should i go for hair piece installation: India, Pakistan?

    your advice is highly appreciated.

    thanks

    1) The guy at my clinic surfs regularly and it doesn't budge and you can't tell. There's no way something like wind is going to be a problem.

If someone literally gives it a good tug... It probably won't do anything unless they pull around the edge somewhere and it's really weak towards the end of the monthly cycle or something.

    2) About 1 month is the standard length for a re-adjustment.

    3) Can't help you here sorry.

  13. Nother young Aussie here who just joined the board.

Just got into systems quite recently but have never talked to any fellow wearers before.

AussieCraig, you at 22 reminds me a little of myself at 24. Did the whole concealers tricks and made a smooth transition to systems which no one noticed. Only did it under strange circumstances that I wouldn't have done otherwise too (although I wasn't tricked like that!).

It encourages me alot to see that 7 years later you are still happy with them.

I'm very happy so far as I've had a boost in self esteem and all round quality of life but I've had this lurking fear that I won't be able to afford them one day or I'll regret it eventually for some reason.

Currently I pay too much. I go to one of the most expensive clinics (Not available in VIC) and get the top of the line skin base. Their service is amazing and they hold your hand through every step of the way and have found solutions to every issue I've had so far.

Unfortunately I may have to start looking for cheaper options soon so I'll be keeping an eye out on these boards for advice on finding a good balance between quality and finances in this country.

Is it an option to buy them in bulk from overseas and then pay a clinic to get them cut in? Or will the clinics tell you to F off since you didn't buy from them?

I'm noticing alot the guys on this site that went the hair transplant route instead of hair systems seem like they are in hell with problem after problem. Making me more confident about my choice.

  14. Just joined this board and this is the first thread I've read. I must say I'm confused. Why would someone who's hair is so important to them put themselves through all of this when you could just get hair replacement and look exactly how you want for the rest of your life?

Unless you cant afford it? (pretty cheap though if you order in bulk from overseas).

Do you at least use Caboki/Topik microfibre to thicken up?
