  1. If the doctor really said you had 15,000 grafts available(from scalp hair alone), I would stay away. There has never been a 15,000 graft case documented ever.

FUE is certainly an option providing you are a good candidate for it. Usually a decent density is required along with a few other factors. You may loss native(existing) hair due to a procedure if the doctor implants too dense and too close to other existing hairs. The term is referred to as 'shockloss' and I sustained it in an area that was in abundance of native hair... However a hair transplant won't trigger you to accelerate your natural balding process.

In regards to looking natural, if done by a good surgeon you can have a result that will not be detectable as being manipulated via surgery. I'm not sure it will look entirely god-given but you can get it pretty close. FUE can provide a more natural look because the surgeon can actively target finer single hair grafts from the donor to use in the hairline.

Usually the scar marks are not prominent unless you shave down to a zero guard. There are shaved down examples in the thread in my signature and I can PM you more pictures also. I very much doubt you would be able to feel the individual punch scars, they heal quite quick and do not need sutures to close.

With FUE the maxiumum safe amount that can be harvested in one session usually ranges from 1,500-3,000 but I don't really advocate the 3,000 figure. It certainly can be done and many have had amazing results with 3,000 grafts in one session(see s2thoudriver's mindblowing FUE results) but I'm a bit cautious about the body's ability to heal and sustain that amount of grafts in such a short time. Just my opinion.

Certainly do not book anything for quite some time because you need to be well informed on every factor of a procedure.

So the shockloss has nothing related to FUE or FUT right? As the difference between these two are taking grafts from donor area, not insertion of grafts? What is the chances of shockloss in my case, where I have existing hairs left and transplanted hair have to be inserted in between.

I saw your personal post. You showed FUE caused thinning of donor. What how many grafts taken from it.

Also what about body hair as donor? What is the catch in that? Only because it may look unnatural? Or the head may reject the body hair?

  2. Hi there,

Firstly I would remove any ideas about getting a HT in 'the next few weeks'. It can be life changing surgery (GOOD or BAD) and you don't want to mess things up by rushing into surgery. You won't be able to anyway as most of the top surgeons have waiting lists of several months.

The surgeon probably meant 15,000 hairs which is approximately 6,800 grafts (2.2 hairs per graft on average for most people).

You should try medications to stablize your loss. If you don't the chances are you will just lose more hair behind your transplant, not necessarily because of the HT, just further genetic loss.

If you can post a few pictures there are many good people who will give you there opinion.

Yes you are correct. Few weeks is too less a time. I am travelling back to India and will be consulting doctors in the next few weeks.

I did take medicines. It worked a little but when I stopped taking the new hair just fell off. So HT is the only option left. My main concern is that I do not want to loose existing hairs due to the transplant. Hair loss does not seem to be hereditary in my case. Loss was mainly due to high stress. So the existing hair should stay in place if I dont get a HT.

Some of my hair pics attached.

Plz advise about FUE. Do the transplanted hair look natural?

  3. Hello,

As the forum members seem to posses quite good knowledge about HT. I wanted to clarify few points from you all, instead of believing the tall claims given by hair clinics.

I have very less density in my front and mid region. But I am not bald in any place. My donor region is very good, confirmed by one of the doctor. He told I have some 15k donor 'grafts'(I guess) Want to go for a HT in the next few weeks.

    1) FUT seems a more major surgery and want to avoid it. What about FUE? My main question is will I loose any of my existing hair due to the transplant. I understand that I may loose my normal hair in the natural aging process, but I am really concerned about any existing hair loss due to the transplant. One of my friend lost his natural hair 2 yrs after the transplant. Can it be related? I do not want to use any medicine after the transplant.

    2) Will the transplanted hair look natural after FUE? Are the scar marks very prominent? Can someone feel it by placing their hands over them.

    3) What is the maximum num of hairs which can be transplanted in 1 session?

    Thanks!
