  1. hello folks,

its been a while since I posted on the forum, my latest photos are also long due, I will update them.

this is my 10th month past HT and I find the progress is pretty satisfactory if not out right amazing, important thing is I am happy :).

now the trouble is past 3 weeks I am experiencing heavy hair loss, I discontinued using propecia but continued with minoxdl.

when I called up the HT doc, his staff said that this is a common phenomenon in 8-9th month and she explained that since a mass of new transplanted hair grow more or less at the same time after HT all of them will go into a mass shedding/rest phase and that is the reason for this hairfall.

I wanted to check if any body has gone through it and is there any thing we can do about this.

  2. subbu,

    check my patient website.

    confused123,

Please send a PM or something with all your doubts/concerns I will be glad to answer them.

I am out of town so we cannot meet.

    Bill,

Thanks for fixing the signature, that's the signature I was trying for.

also regarding the itching, I applied two palm fulls of pure coconut oil to the grafted area, I made sure every graft/scab are kind of soaked in the oil and this definately soothed my scalp.

  3. thanks Bill, I will create a patent website.

it is past midnight 3 am here, I woke up as this damned itchiness crept into a dream and I started to scrach my head(grafted area) for a split second.

so Bill, I have to wait for 10 days to apply the stuff you are suggesting right, Is there anything I can do right now? it has become very tough to tolerate the itch.

Never thought itch could be this irritating.. icon_mad.gif I will also check with the doc in the morning.

  4. I zeroed in on Dr.Madhu and had my procedure done on monday dec 7th 2009.

I will breifly pen down the my exp here.

I got into the clinic 15 mins late, Dr.Madhu and his staff were waiting for me, they checked a few of my parameters, gave some meds, shot a injection, took some photographs, Dr.Madhu and I agreed on the areas to be covered, he wanted me to be doubly sure here.

Then I was led into the operation theater.I was made to lay down on my front exposing my head for strip harvesting, they have put some bandages on my head then gave the injection for anestesia, here it pained slightly and later I could not sense any thing, this process took mostly half an hour.

Then I was led into another room for the transplantation, Dr.Madhu made the incisions for some time then Dr.Sree Devi(wife of Dr.Madhu) took over and started the placement(Dr.Madhu said in an earlier meeting said she is very skilled at this), she worked with two other ladies, towards the end of the process I observed that only two surgeons were working sans Dr. SreeDevi, Dr.Madhu was doing rounds into the room all the while.

All the while I was at home talking to the staff, they apprised me of the status regulary, they assured my comfort, the whole process took about 6 hours, only thing I didnt like is that during graft placement the staff some times were chit chatting about trivial stuff(the usual ladies banter), also in the middle Dr.Madhu made me sit up and gave a mirror and wanted me to check the placement, when the thing is done I was led into my room.

Post op I didnt feel really tired, it was ok, actually I walked in my room as I was made to lay down for almost 5 hours. Dr.Madhu came and gave me the post op instructions, gave me a protective cover along with the tight hair band which was put during the HT left the clinic took an auto way home.

Contrary to the consultation process which I though is slightly messy the surgery is pretty organized and methodical, the support staff are also very friendly.

today is 3rd day post op, I am healing well, I feel tightness in my donar area and a ithcing sensation in the receipient area and no pain.

I will update you with my album also.

  5. Forest Gump,

Thanks for your reply and complement icon_smile.gif .

I think 2500 grafts are needed for a caucausian, Being an Indian I am thinking of going for a sub 2000 grafts, instead of talking about the no.of grafts, I think we can talk about the density(grafts/cm2) needed and arrive at the grafts based on the area that needs to be covered.

Please consider my hair chars, goals and the this examplary article regarding the no.of grafts needed from Dr. Ron Shapiro.

Please let me know your thoughts.

  6. Hello All,

I am 26 year old male baldy, check the pics attached(let me know if you need more pics).

I have been a lurker here for months now and so I am aware of the HT stuff.

I meet Dr Pathuri Madhu and here is the experience, a fairly long write up but should come handy to Indian patients, I also have a question in the end.

His facility is posh(every room is air conditioned, most of the rooms has LCD TVs which run the slide show of before and after photos), well equipped, adequately staffed, two separate partitions one for consultation and another for surgeries and follow up patients.

Firstly Jr Doc Shanu gave the orientation, there were about 6-7 guys, this is mostly not useful for members who follow this community.

Secondly another doc I forgot her name(regrettably so as she is pretty icon_smile.gif ) took a one to one session, again not really useful to me.

Just as I was talking to her Dr. Madhu made his way into the room, I was at home talking to him in Telugu, after listening to me for a while he recognized that I am knowledgeable, he chuckled when I unfolded a piece of paper where I wrote down all my queries and quipped that he is better off with well informed patients like me.

He tried to clear all my doubts. He placed me at NW4 progressing to 5(do you think so?)He drew with a pencil on the area that he would cover and arrived at a figure of 2000-2500. but regrettably there is a perceptible rush in the manner in which he answered my queries, after spending some time(not more than 10 mins) with me, he assigned a junior doc Dr.Deepak to clear my doubts if I had any, after I was done with Deepak, Madhu summoned me and made sure that my queries are all answered. Also I felt that the whole staff did not behave as if they have something to hide and were open and practical in results they could achieve.

Also I felt though the faculty is probably world class they should manage the consultation process a bit more efficiently(there were two more patients when I was talking to Dr. Madhu, etc) but all the while I saw Dr.Madhu giving instructions to staff so I think it is just a matter of time before they are more organized.

consultation charge is Rs 300/- and 40/- per graft and they are going to hike it to 50/- from Jan onwards.

Also it seems that the Madhu's clinic works 7days a week and dont take any holiday at all except when Dr.Madhu is out of town and they do 2 ops per day that comes to 60-70 of them per month.

Now the question I have is regarding the no.of grafts.

Dr.Madhu calculated roughly(In the second meeting I am going to ask him to measure it accurately) measured the area to be covered as 60-70 cm2 and if I go for 2000 grafts(covering 60 cm2) then it comes to 33 grafts per cm2, I feel this is enough for me to give me a fuller look, please let me know your opinion on this. also please consider the following things.

    1. Being a Indian I am blessed with wavy hair(it doesnt shown up that way in the pic as the hair is short),

    2. good hair to body color contrast ratio.

    3. I have some hair left even in the bald areas, I should be able to save them, if I react well to finax, I have not started the finax yet.

    4. I dont want to resist baldness eternally, it is just that my look doesnt suit my age, I am ok if I go bald say 10 years down the line, also I dont want to undergo more than one procedure.

    5. Dr.Madhu's clinic quoted the survival rate of the HTed grafts at > 96%.

Taking advantage of my hair characteristics and goals, Can I reduce the avg grafts/cm2 to be HTed to say 20 gfts/cm2?

After reading this, tell whatever you feel like telling me please!!.

Finally a word of praise for this forum, I think this forum should have saved thousands from butchery by unscrupulous docs world over.

  7. TOPPIK AVAILABILITY:

as of now in India, it is not available in any of the retile shops,

there is just one distributer in delhi and the prices he quotes are high compared to ebay.

One more thing is the HT clinics generally stock the concealers like toppik.

    I bought it on e-bay.

    USABILITY:

    1. When I applied toppik for the first time, I thought it is ridiculous and can be detected easily, but forced myself to try it for one day, surprizingly it is undetecable, but you need some amount hair around which it conceals the bald patches.

    2. I also happened to get drenched in heavy rains with toppik on my head, though it wears of slighty it is by and large intact.
