Hey all,
I am a 27 year old guy who has been experienceing hair loss since I was 20. Its been a slow process that seems to be different from many people's experiences. Every 2-3 months I will get sharp pains at my temple-area-hairline, the next day a section of hair has thinned, and the thinned area then fals out completely over the next few weeks. I have been on finasteride and rogaine for at least a year now and there has been no noticeable difference. I still get the pain, and I still lose small strips of hair.
This wasn't the end of the world as the hairline receded in a relatively natural pattern, and I have noticed that most people don't look at your hairline unless there is a serious problem. However, my latest loss in the past week is a step too far for me, and I am finally unhappy with my hairline. However I have a few problems.
Firstly, my scalp at the back is extrememly tight. If you drew a straight line from between the tops of my two ears, below this line the scalp barely moves (in fact I would say it doesn't move at all, maybe millimetres). Above this line, it moves relatively freely and the side of my head moves quite freely. I have no way of having a HT doctor check this as I am in Ireland and the only decent doc here charges 200 euro for a consult. I have been considering going to Rahal, but would hate to put a deposit, and pay for plane and accomodation, only to find that my scalp rules me out from a HT. Has anyone heard of situations where someone is completely ruled out due to bad laxity?
Secondly, I ahve noticed that with Rahal's work on NW 2/3 patients that he does not just fill in the temples. He also lowers the hairline of the still existing hair in the centre of the forehead (the part that looks like a peninsula coming form the back of the head). Is this so there won't be an obvious difference between the natural density of peninsula and the transplanted density of the temples? Or is it a request by the patients to have a lower hairline?
I will try and post some pics later on today to give you an idea of my concerns.
Thanks.
