  1. stay off it guys - your sex drive should come back but it takes time. Propecia should be banned in my opinion - it is a harmful drug that definitely affects the male sex drive in a lot of cases. I went through exactly the same and wish that I had never taken it. It really isnt worth the side effects to retain a bit of hair

  2. Have a look around but do consider Total Cover Plus (there is a website you can look at). I use this system and it is amazing. The only down side for you is that you can't order stock systems as you need to use one of the few salons currently supplying the systems in the UK. Your nearest to Leeds is in Manchester. Depending on where you live though this system is available in other parts of Europe too

  3. i think to be honest it all depends on the system - mine is a new european skin system and is only a partial crown system - i don't even know im wearing it as it is so light (it feels nothing like wearing a hat - in fact I can hardly tell its there on a day to day basis). It is also far less maintenance than when i was using topikk fibres. Don't get me wrong if I could afford a transplant and was guaranteed it would give me the results I wanted then I would opt for that too. However the system i use i find is the next best thing and is something I can afford

  4. didnt realise i had been so passionate about it to be honest as i've only posted on one other hair system thread, but for all of the reasons mentioned above by the previous poster. I did consider a transplant for a while but I didn't believe it would give me the results I was looking for and I felt that in another year or 2 I might have suffered more hairloss around the transplant area which would take me back to square one. Also the surgeon I consulted suggested that I might be best to take propecia after a transplant to retain the hair - I had very bad side effects when previously on propecia so not an option for me. I have since found a system that works really well for me and has given me what I was looking for. I agree it's all down to personal opinion but the cost of a transplant and the uncertainty of the results put me off doing it. A personal choice for me. Hope that answers your questions :-) I am more passionate about propecia than I am about hair transplants as I had a very bad experience on the drug ...

  5. I have been wearing Total Cover Plus for nearly a month now. I felt a bit self conscious in the first week as I hadn't worn hair before and I had a couple of situations where the base lifted at the edges and needed re-bonding. Once you get over the panic of the first time this happens and realise that the system isn't actually going to come off then it is easy enough to re-bond the edge. I am now totally comfortable with wearing the system and don't even notice it is there now I am used to it. I have no doubt that it definitely passes as my own hair and can do all the things i did before such as going to the gym . My system is a partial crown system which integrates into my own remaining hair so the front hairline is my own and the crown is the system - so far so good and couldnt be happier with the result

  6. I m using the topical version. thnx.. i think i should also change to foam ..but does hair fall increase if i stop using.. i just started regaine .

It shouldn't rapidly increase hair loss if you stop using it to let your scalp recover and when it has try using the foam instead - I found that the regaine/rogaine foam didnt irritate my scalp at all whereas the topical version did - good luck

  7. Hi, I have been using rogaine 5% for 15 days so far. I have serious flaking on my scalps and when I rub it each time I loss lot of hair. what should I do ? should I stop using rogaine ?

how can I get rid of this flaking on my scalps.. I feel hair loss is getting worse after this... :(

    your suggestions are most welcome...

    thnx

are you using the topical version or the foam? I found that the problem stopped when I changed to the foam

  8. Hey everyone,

Do you know if Finasteride has been found to work with lower dosages than 1mg per day? I've been taking 1mg/day for years (like 10), and I do suffer from some sexual side effects. Not horrendous, but definitely some. If my side effects never got any worse, I'd be okay. But, I'm very concerned about long term.....and getting worse. The recent reports of about Propecia have scared me (even though the test group of 54 men is extremely small). I've had 2 previous HT. The Fin has kept my "original" hair looking good. I KNOW it works and has prevented, or slowed down big time, further loss. I'm thinking about stopping Fin but am scared too death that once I do my hair will fall out (I know of a guy that was taking Fin for years, like me, and stopped cold turkey....in 6 months he was almost bald).

So, if anyone has any info on the effectiveness of Fin at LOWER dosages, please let me know. I'd like to start cutting my 1mg/day in half and see what results I get - both my hair and the sexual side effects, but if lower dosages have shown to have the same effect sexually as the higher dosage, then what's the point. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

If you've been taking it for 10 years then I am sure the side effects would have reached their peak by now. When I took it I reduced to 1mg a week to try to combat sexual side effects, but my problems continued to worsen even on a really low dose. It sounds like you are able to tolerate the drug a lot better than I did though as my side effects were really bad - I think in reality it is probably slightly different for everyone but it is a scary drug

  9. i had major sexual sides kick in bout 3 and a half years in.

Im 9 months off now and i think im back to normal more or less from when i started Fin. I initially thought i had no sides in all that time.

I can safely say now it was affecting me although it happened in a very subtle dulling process so it wasnt overly noticeable at the time. It happens so subtly people forget how they felt before they started.

I always say long term users who say they have no sides should take a year off it and then confirm if they were having no sides.

My only advice is to get all your bloodwork done , hormone levels checked prior to starting it again. People on here advising people to jump on this drug inlcuding doctors without mentioning this are just plain irresponsible in my opinion. You NEED baseline results data to refer back too should you have issues.

Its an extremley powerful drug that no-one knows the long term effects are or how it can affect any one individual.

that is the most sensible post I have ever seen written about this drug. I too had awful sexual side effects which built up over time. It really bothers me that doctors and hair transplant professional are handing this drug out without any proper warnings about it - I recently argued this case with a hair transplant surgeon I consulted - he basically said if I went through with a trasplant that he would put me on finasteride as well (without knowing any of my previous history) - he didnt even mention side effects and I assume he is saying the same to all his patients. Any drug that messes with your hormones cannot be anything but bad in my opinion. I have given up on all drugs and settled for a partial hair system instead

  10. In case anyone wants more backstory in order to answer, long story short: I stopped taking Fin 5 years ago due to some sexual side effects. They were pretty horrible, and if what happened to me was truly caused by the Fin, some of the sides have not gone away. However, I was recently in a longterm relationship and had lots of amazing sex and very few misfires, so I had a lot of recovery.

I recently got an HT to fill in my hairline, and I'd like to go back on Fin at a very low dosage, because at 25 yrs old, I know I'll soon be losing more hair, and I'd like to avoid the cosmetic, economic, time-consuming, and pain-inducing factors that go along with a 2nd HT as long as possible!

I reduced to 1mg a week because of side effects and the side effects still continued to get worse - so I abandoned it and it took me a while to get full sexual function back. Just be very careful if you do back on it

  11. it started off fine but over time I gradually developed all the sexual dysfunction side effects associated with it - which believe me is far more devastating than the hair thinning. And you don't go back to normal as soon as you come off the drug if u are unfortunate enough to suffer side effects. It takes months sometimes years for your hormone levels to re-balance. It actually really annoys me how propecia is so widely available and how it is advocated. I didn't even think about potential side effects when I started using it and it wasn't until i started to experience them that I eventually made the connection with Propecia. I was so desperate to keep my hair that I cut down to 1 mg a week but the side effects continued to get worse and I finally came off the drug when I had become completely impotent.. I'm happy to say that I am now all back to normal after being free from propecia but it was a gradual process to get there.

If you think about it - a drug that suppresses you DHT levels and messes with your hormones is worrying - in my opinion ( and this is just my opinion after personal experience) I think the drug should not be available for the treatment of hair loss without very close monitoring. All I would say is that if you do take propecia and you notice any sexual function side effects come off it staright away as the side effects get worse over time.

    Good luck

  12. mikey is it just the crown area you need a system if o i i was at anthonys salon and there was a guy who had a system just for the crown area and i have to say anthony did a great job so i think its worth going seeing him as your first system is under ?250 then u if you like it you can go to the cheaper places

Thanks - yeah I have booked a consultation with Paul Anthony next week - had a chat with him on the phone and seems very positive that he can make a difference to my crown and as he's only a few minutes away from where I live so I'm gonna give him a try.

  13. my own personal experience on propecia was awful - I had all of the sexual side effects that got worse gradually over time - and continued to worsen even after I reduced to 1 mg per week. I gave up on the drug as it was ruining my personal life and I had become virtually impotent. What was even more worrying for me is that it took 2 years after stopping the drug for complete normal sexual function to gradually come back. Any research, reports or findings might conclude that only 2% suffer side effects - if you are one of these apparent 2% like I was then you know how awful and devastating this drug can actually be. There is no research on this earth that cannot convince me that propecia messes up hormone levels and can be very dangerous for some people - I have been there and would never touch the stuff again...

  14. my experience was awful - took propecia for about 6 months. Side effects kicked in after a few weeks of taking 1mg per day, I reduced to 1 mg per week and side effects continued to get worse - starting with a change in sexual function and watery semen and ending in complete impotence. Came off the dug and it took nearly 2 years for complete normal function to return - semen continued to be watery and lumpy for some time. My opinion is that for some people this drug messes up hormon levels and is extremely dangerous - the drug did reduce hair shedding but didnt see any re-growth - at the end of the day it is your choice but I would never touch the stuff again
