Hello, Yes you are right with regards to checking in the mirror. I have the same problem I'm very impatient but at the same time I know 4 month mark is the pivotal time. I'm sure you had a great experience with Dr Rahal - I cant praise enough how good his staff were to name a few Fiona, April and also Dua. And ofcourse Mike is again one of nicest people one will come across. Larissa has been great in answering any queries I've had and last but not the least Dr Rahal, he's a star. I just hope the result lives up to my experience.

 

At what point did you notice a significant difference? Im nearly 3 months now and notice stubble like hair in the recipient area, I guess at the moment I can feel about 40-50 small hair popping out.

At four months, you will start to see some growth. But, If memory serves, at month six, you will really see it happening. And from that moment on, things will only get better and better!

The thing though that really got to me about this whole experience, is the fact that people that saw me as this new growth was happening, never really clued in that new hair was growing on my head. They would just say things like " your looking good" etc. People don't notice that anything was done. Always found that funny lol

Nothing much to report at the moment as expected - can't wait till the 4 month mark.

Yes you are going to see some results at the four month mark. Just be patient. I remember when I had my first procedure with doc Rahal how I used to look several times a day in the mirror looking for signs of growth lol. It will happen. No worries.

I'm nervous, but at the same time excited knowing my appointment is getting close for my HT with Dr. Rahal. It's amazing how booked he is. It was either Oct or March! :-)

 

How many out there are Rahal patients and how happy are you with the results?

I had three HT's with Dr Rahal over the last five years. I do remember being nervous when I had my first one (5600 graft FUT). But that quickly went away once I realized how professional the whole team was. I am very happy with the results. Don't worry to much. You're in good hands and I am sure you are going to be very happy with the results.

I just finished reading your posts. First time on line in a while now. I had three procedures with Dr Rahal ( two big FUTs and one small FUE touch procedure to add a little more density to the crown). Just wanted to take a moment to let you know that you are in good hands. I started out at the Norwood 6 level. I am very happy with the results. It has been 5 years now since my first procedure. Since then I have let my hair grow long, I've cut it really short and worn it everywhere in between. Personally speaking, I am extremely happy with my choice in Dr,s for my hair transplant. And yes, there are other wonderful dr,s out there but you can feel totally confident with your choice of docs for your upcoming procedure with dr Rahal.

Hello, I just looked at your pictures. You are going to have a great result. You just can't go wrong with Dr. Rahal. I was in his chair for my second surgery in May of this year and received 2953 grafts to my crown (fut) and this after 5604 grafts to the front and top eleven months before that. I will be posting some follow up pictures soon. But as I look back now, I constantly say to myself this has been hands down one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am sure once your results start to kick in a few months from now, you will be saying the same thing.

HGN: I can second your comments about nobody noticing since I have the same non reactions from people. I am often amazed that people do not realize that I have more hair now but that is the case. I am sure there are some that do but they just dont say anything. What really amazes me is that I read on here all the time about guys who get 1000 grafts and they get endless comments about having more hair while you and I who came from very advanced balding dont really hear any comments. I am not complaining though since I know part of the reason is that it is so natural.

what has the reaction been from your family and friends on your transformation ?

The only people that really know about my "transformation" are the people here on the HTN. Nobody has ever said anything. They really just don't notice. To people that know me, it's just me. They don't zoom into the fact that I have more hair. Case in point: today I was showing pictures of a trip I was on 10 years ago to some co-workers and nobody clued into the fact that I have more hair. I thought somebody would notice that I had a major receding and high hairline back then. But nope, nobody noticed. So to answer your question, the outcome is so natural that nobody notices that I have done anything. I am really the only person that notices! At least when it comes to the public.

Hello James,

It was done 100% by the hands of the Master himself, Dr. Rahal. I used the word "clinic" just as a fancier way of saying his office. Both of my transplants were performed by Dr. Rahal at his Ottawa office.

Yep, scars suck. But you become a master of layering your hair on the sides to cover the scar. i'm up for a revision myself. mine never healed well.

One of the things that attracted me in the first place to dr Rahal's clinic when I was originally considering having hair transplant surgery was the quality of his donor scars. On two occasions now, he has not let me down.

Hairgoesnothing when did the shockloss return for you after your first surgery?

It started to grow back around the start of month three. By month four it was pretty much all gone. I have shock loss right now in the exact same location as my first surgery and just like my first round, it is now starting to grow back now that I am well into my third month.

HARIRI your right about the quality of Dr Umar's work. He does what he does well.

But truth be told in this instance, Dr Rahal did such a wonderful job with this second donor scar (and my first) that I have not even considered ever having (or ever needing) any revision work done to it. There are doctors out there that can equal this work but none can surpass it. It just does not get any better than this. I could not be happier with the quality of his work.

Great scar for 8000+ grafts. You are lucky Bro. I wish I went with a virgin scalp to Dr. Rahal. But that is destiny. You really played right Mr. Magician :-)

I made a mistake at the start of this post. This second HT was 2953 grafts, not 2970. Just wanted to clear that up. Either way, your right, it is a great looking scar. If one can ever say that about a scar!

I think what you a referring to is a cream that helps diminishes the appearance of a scar by helping make its color fade. That is not needed in this case because the color of my scar is not drastically different from my natural skin tone and also the scar will by very well hidden by hair growth. The cream you are referring too I believe is used more to help diminishes the appearance of scars in plain view such as abdominoplasty scars or a scar from an injury.

Scar looks pretty good in close-up pics, but that is a nasty ass scar no matter what/who does it IMHO. You can cut your hair really short and it's not too noticeable, but bald just doesn't work. Kind of makes me sad when I see OK looking bald dudes to know that I will never be able to cut it (if I needed to) and be free with it and never worry about it again like them, but I just gotta remind myself that I do not look like those dudes bald.

I personally tried to live with the shaved bald hair look for many years (off and on). It never felt right for me. I always preferred, at that time, having "some" hair instead of "no" hair. But I did always miss having hair on the top of my head. Now, I have a fair amount on the top and it looks natural. I could not be happier. I did not rush my decision to undergo hairtransplant surgery. I studied the technique for many years before choosing to have it done. The scar is just par for the course(whether one chooses FUT or FUE they both leave a mark). It was the end result I was after. And the result was and is great! But that was my decision. Everybody is different. The way I see it, and I tell this to people often, don't rush this decision because, just like all decisions we undertake in life, it comes with consequences. And it is those consequences we have to live with.

Yes, you are correct, the scar does not concern me much at this point. Sory I do not have any pictures of before I shaved my head. But the entire scar was well hidden by my two months of hair growth with the exception of a patch of shock loss just behind my right ear. This was actually one of the main factors that brought me to decide to shave my entire head. Which in turn, at this point anyway, will give my hair a chance to grow out evenly. Also, it will not take long for the hair to grow over it because of where I am in my recovery.

But on the other hand, I also wanted to give a chance for people to see just what a "good" donor scar looks like after two months. We often see pictures of scars just after surgery and a few days after the sutures are removed but we rarely see, if ever, what a scar looks like at the mid-recovery point because hair is grown over it. At least people can now see how well a donor area heals a few months after surgery. In the hands of a good HT surgeon, I think anyway, FUT transplant is a very feasible choice because the option of wearing a fairly short hair style is possible. Last year, before my second transplant, I used to shave my head down to a #4 without the scar in any way being visible. I foresee this same option in the near future once again.

I am now two and a half months post-op from my second surgery of 2970 grafts with Dr. Rahal. During this visit, Dr Rahal concentrated uniquely on my crown. As to be expected at this point, nothing much is happening with the exception of lots and lots of pimples. What I wanted to share with the community today is pictures of how well my donor area is healing. Yesterday (Sunday the 12th of July), I decided to shave my head entirely just to see how well the donor area was really healing. As was the case with my first surgery (last year 5604 grafts), the donor scar is healing once again pencil thin. There is, of course, still some redness present as well as some minor shock loss above and below the scar but over all, I believe, Dr Rahal’s skill comes shinning through yet again! Please feel free to let me know what you think.

I truly am happy and jealous. You will have a full head of hair and your hair loss troubles are soon behind you. You’re fortunate to have found Dr. Rahal right from the start.

I just had a question regarding scalp stretching exercises; 1) did you do it? 2) Did follow the Dr. Rahal’s recommendation as for time and exercises? 3) Do you have any suggestions on how to do them for so long? I find it difficult to do for more than a minute or two at a time because my arms get tired.

To answer your question, yes I followed Dr Rahal's recommendations. I did my scalp exercises as often as I could. I spread the time out during the day. Meaning, I did them for short periods of time but quite often during the day when I had some free time. I do believe this helps with the healing after the procedure because it helps reduce the tension on the donor area once your surgery is behind you. Hope this answers your questions.
