I still have him use the clipper but I'm not sure what number. He used to go all the way up in the back but now he only goes up about halfway. I guess he's trying to hide the scar. It bothers him more than it bothers me. I told him I'll just tell people I had brain surgery. He asked "to have one put in"? And I told him no to have some taken out. It just got too big for my head. 🤕

I know, not funny. But he was amused.

I desperately need a hair cut too. I want to cut it short but I have no idea how short I can go and still hide the FUT scar.  I was thinking a number 4 but maybe I should play it safe and go with a number 6 clipper.

I just had my procedure with Dr. Cooley in early December.  My hair loss is isolated only to my crown area and I went with FUT 3100 grafts.  I'm in week 5 and am in the dreaded ugly duckling phase.  I've shed all my implanted grafts about 2 weeks ago and there appears to be some shock loss in the crown area.  My bald spot looks wider than it did before.  Reading though this thread has helped me immensely, waiting is the hardest and most frustrating part.

Yes, I just had a 2nd procedure after about 9 years. First one was June 2010 second one was in July of 2019. I'm about 6 months out. I started seeing more density after 4 or 5 months. Enough to not worry about how I combed my hair after 5 months. It's the longest 4 months of my life seemingly.

  4. Thanks for the encouragement, Merlin. Your hair looks great. I'm hoping my results are just as good. I used a different doctor this time. Dr Charles in Boca Raton. I used Dr Charles b/c he was closer in proximity. It has been 95 days since my 2nd procedure. Starting to see some minor improvement in density but it's just starting to come in. Dr Cooley will always be the best in my mind. Dr Charles does excellent work too.

  5. Looks good Merlin. You still have a few months left of continued growth. If you're at 121 days now figure about another 100 days of more growth. You will see added thickness! I would estimate about 7 to 8 months before my growth really peaked. You know Dr Cooley would say stop freaking out about it! :)

  6. Wow Merlin that looks like great work. I had 3,122 grafts transplanted in 2009 by Dr Cooley. Still extremely satisfied with the work. I had seen the most growth between the 4th and 5th month. After 7 months it was thicker than ever and continued getting thicker the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th month. It is all very individual so don't get discouraged. Make sure you take the Propecia (Finasteride). That helps a lot.

  7. I use a company out of Canada known as Planet Drugs Direct:

They have the 5 mg Proscar tablets, 90 for $45 with free shipping. They also have the 1 mg Propecia tablets, 90 tablets for $46. I just cut the 5 mg Proscar tablets into quarters and it's a lot cheaper.

Anyone know of a the cheap pharmacy to get propecia? I was getting it at walmart but their prices here have went up.

    Thanks

  8. Hi Joe;

I wanted to take a shot at this because no one else was responding. Everything you are feeling is perfectly normal. You will be at times over the next 6-8 months feeling a lot of anxiety and anticipation. I am at 8 months now (Dr Cooley, 3,288 grafts) and have never been happier with my decision and the results. Most will tell you that the growing and maturization will continue up to 12 to 18 months.

The recipient area will get much thinner until it gets thicker again. That is the anxiety part. It really started growing for me around 4 months but it is different for everyone, I had a lot of shock loss. The soreness should subside pretty much after about 3 or 4 weeks.

I don't know about the Aloe Vera moisturizer but it sounds okay, you should probably consult with your HT physician. I used Emu Oil as a moisturizer but mainly to keep the Follicle Solution Therapy Spray in my hair so it didn't evaporate away. That is sort of a conditioner that I used because I felt it was being helpful. Probably not though, I spoke to the doctors assistant and she said that no matter what you put in your hair it doesn't really matter. It is an individual thing and everyone will grow at their own pace.

I hope this helps a little. I'll leave you with one thing Doctor Cooley told me (I don't think he'll mind) "The more you look at it the slower it grows".

Just try to eliminate all stress from your life right now, I know easier said than done. Happy Growing!

    Hi all,

I'm 12-14 days post-op after 1967 FUE procedure and am in full paranoia mode about taking care of my grafts wanting to know if I'm healing properly. There is SOO much conflicting information post-op that its driving me crazy. Hope you guys can help!

I still have about 1/3 of the scabs on my head (just began washing more vigorously on day 9-11) and have alot of dry skin in and around the recipient area--is it okay to apply Aloe Vera lotion/gel/spray directly to the area for moisturizing???

Also, my donar area continues to be quite sore--sort of like a sunburn on my scalp. Scabing is virtually gone, but it seems like this "sunburn/soreness" may be lasting longer than it should. Any thoughts???

Oh yeah, during my first couple of more vigorous washings (actually using my hands--no direct stream from shower), I did notice alot of little stubs falling out and the recipient area does look a bit thinner now (bummer!)--that's okay, right???

    Thanks all--really need some reassurance!

  9. I just want to comment briefly on Dr Cooley and his staff. I had HT done with him about 4 months ago on June 10th. He and his staff were wonderful and he did a terrific job. I did a lot of research before deciding on Dr Cooley and never felt better about him and the work he did for me. The follow up and answering my questions and trying to calm me down have been outstanding. I can be a bug sometimes when the results are not immediate. Anyway, I am only at 4 months so don't want to post pics just yet. I just can't find the words to express how impressed I was with Cooley and the staff. I had 9 people working on me for 11 hours and left feeling great after the surgery. I'm sure the Valium helped a little with that also. I had very little bleeding (actually none) but after stitches were removed by another Doc one stitch bled for about 5 minutes. Good luck to you RCWest, you made a good decision!
