  1. usedandabused, how is your results showing now with Dr Epstein? Please describe your story once again if u don't mind. I am very close to making my decision. Thanks lot in advance.

if you look at my previous posts, you can get the full story, not going to rehash this again.

Why would you go with a Dr. that has had a great deal of controversy, been kicked off the coalition, and many unhappy patients?

If I were you, I would talk to Limmer, Rassman, Bernstein, or Harris. I don't know your situation, but overall, I wouldn't recommend a hair transplant to anyone....

  2. I am 7 months out from same Dr..........my hair looks like s***. (period)

I am not pushing him yet for answers or even complaining..I think it is fair to give time ;what if I am just a late grower..

Though; through my research since my procedure I have learned that the more epinephrine(no clue if spelled right) used ,the less likely your results will be good...also will cause more shock loss...i had a two day fue; lots of trama ..would not do that again..FUG less time in chair= less trama and= less epi =less risk of trama to head, and even the graphs.

This should be a top topic on all HRT forums. This is what decides successful transplants...

I had the same experience and I think you are correct in saying that excessive epinephrine use is VERY DANGEROUS and SOME doctors (hint hint) are using more epinephrine than needed. WHY? Well it can be assumed that they excessively use this to make their job EASIER by TOTALLY getting rid of as much blood as possible in the scalp. WELL blood flow is essential to the survival of hair, and more importantly miniaturized hair which is VERY sensitive to trauma and lack of blood flow (even for a short period of time). I had FUG and the combination of a deep slice of scalp from ear to ear severing important nerves and veins, the deep recipient sites made, and epinephrine totally ruined the blood flow in my head, killed all my miniaturized hair and some of my normal healthy hair, and ruined my scalp health forever.

  3. A few weeks ago a member posted a comment allegedly made by Dr. Epstein regarding hair and hair loss, and how the relationship of those factors to power/authority. Most of the people that jumped in thought Dr. Epstein's commentwas out of line. I, on the other hand, did not. I viewed it as an accurate commentary on our society.

When it comes to politicians, I do not believe that a voter consciously considers the amount of hair the person has. And yet, for some reason the percentage of politicans who have retained their hair is significantly higher than that of the general population. Perhaps voters do have a bias towards hair, or perhaps it's simply that those with hair have more confidence, which in turn leads them to pursue careers in politics. I don't think anyone will ever know the answer for sure.

And for the record, as a trial laywer, I can say that hair is EXTREMELY important in my profession.

Well this is the problem with this way of thinking that keeps it alive. All of you who think this way are either from or influenced by a generation of people that make me sick. Hair loss is a natural event in for 50-60% of men. If you feel self conscious about yourself like I did, then it is better to concentrate of all the other areas of your life that you need to improve instead of your stupid hair. With all the mental time and energy obsessing about it, you could be getting physically fit, becoming more successful, and working on your personality. If it is thought that baling people look suspicious, then what is thought of people that try to conceal it. My hair transplant is a scarlet letter displaying to everyone in see and meet that I was not happy with myself the way i was and that is more of a turn off to everyone than any amount of hair loss.

Dont compare yourself to ANYONE in politics, LOOK at them....most of them are overweight, boring, and liars.

My "procedure" is the worst thing ive ever done in my life. It should be outlawed the way it is advertised. THIS IS MAJOR SURGERY and is TERRIBLE for your hair and scalp health forever. I would encourage everyone with any amount of hair to take care of thei hair and scalp they have, because in the long run, it is a much better play. Take saw palmetto, take biotin, put alo vera on your head, brush and massage your scalp every night, rogaine, maybe propecia if necessary......I wish I wouldnt have believed the lies and continued with this route...it was working and now because of the procedure, ALL my gain was lost and MORE. My hair loss was accelerated 10-20 YEARS! PERIOD!

  4. I have decided to have my procedure done with either Dr. Charles or Dr. Epstein. I've tried contacting Dr. Charles, but with no luck. He is listed as working at Foundation for Hair Restoration, and also Charles Medical Group. Does he have his own practice also? Does he only operate at Boca Raton? Is Dr. Epstein in the same office or another? Thanks in advance!!

Dr Charles no longer works with Dr Epstein, he has his own practice now. In my opinion that was a very good move on his part. very good.

  5. usedandabused, you cannot keep surfing the internet looking for anything that you can to attack Dr. Epstein. I remember your case well, and I truly feel awful for you, but this cannot be healthy for you. Perhaps you should seek out the care of a mental health professional to assist you.

you do not have the first idea of what i have been through in my life so don't make suggestions on what I should and should not do. This is an open forum and a relevant topic. I feel that there are some physicians that are preying on insecurities and selling procedures that are not in the best interest of the patient, and further more, are ruining people's lives like mine has been ruined. I am not attacking anyone, just sharing PUBLISHED documented information that might be relevant in someone making a lifelong decision.

  6. you mean that you lost the hair that was transplanted? why was the hair lost, was the procedure not performed correctly?

do you have any photos of the results?

were you trying to lower your hairline?

90% of the transplanted hair never grew. I lost all of my natural hair in my hairline from trauma. I am now left with 2-3 hair grafts scattered in my almost non-existent hairline. I just wanted to fill in my temples and this is what happened

  7. I was not balding and I had a procedure done, pretty much the same goals you have. now I have lost most of the hair in the frontal region. I would NOT do a procedure. If you talk to ANY ethical doctor, they will say the same. I would also go to a doctor that ONLY does hair transplants....NOT a plastic surgeon. In my opinion you can not do both and be effective. the old adage "jack of all trades, master of none definitely applies"

If you want an honest opinion, talk to Dr. Limmer, Rassman, Cooley, or Harris.

  8. "People that lose their hair are viewed as less powerful and more suspicious," says Epstein, who has surgical and consultation offices in South Florida and New York. "It's also seen as a measure of virility."

Do you think it is right for doctor's to put this into people's heads that might already have a self confidence issue? Ironically, before my procedure I had all the confidence in the world. Now it has disfigured me and ruined my life.

  9. In my early 30's I had a transplant with M.H.R. in Orlando. That was about 12 years ago and frankly I don't remember how many grafts I had, maybe 750? But I do remember I thought it was a bit pricey for what I receieved. I was promoised dense coverage as I was receeding in the front, and had a fairly good sized bald spot on my crown. I was never very happy with the results. Again, this was a good 12 or so years ago, and there have been some decent advances in hair transplants.

Now I'm 44. I'm active and work out, and feel young, but in recent years I've noticed quite a bit more recession with my hair line, front and crown. From time to time I debated another procedure, and I finally discussed the issue with my wife. I'm glad I did because she's the type of person who does her reserch and investigates things thoroughly. She found this site on the internet and her opinion based on what she read, was that the Hair Transplant groups, M.H.R., Bosley, etc., did not generate the raves omongst their patients, as did some indiviual surgeons who specialize in Hair Transplants.

I was ready to dig up the old M.H.R. business card I had, but based on the patient reviews we read on this site, our impression was that the clinic groups for Hair Transplants, were more or less like going to the H.M.O.'s for medical insurance. After much reserch we narrowed our choice down to two Florida Dr's (I live in central Fla.) and after consults with both, decided to go with Dr. Jeffrey Epstein in Miami.

I had my procedure Nov. 13th, where I had 2617 grafts. I'm not sure of the break down, but I know a majority went towards rebuilding my front hair line, with fairly decent coverage over my crown. I have thanked my wife over and over for she was the one who found Dr. Epstein! I don't have a single complaint about the Dr., his office, or staff! His experience, credentials, and achievements, are all deserved.

Dr. Epstein is a very dynamic and confident individual. He is not snobby in the least, and makes you feel very comfortable, and will make sure you have no unanswered questions. I also can not say enough about his staff. True professionals, but with outstanding bedside manners! Very friendly. Very kind!

The entire experience from the consultation to the procedure, and after, has been easy and plesant. My wife took the three hour drive with me, and Dr. Epstein's office got us a great discount at a Hampton Inn, ten minutes from his office. The hotel is also situated in the middle of a mall shopping district, so my wife had something to do during my procedure.

The other Dr. that I was considering wanted to do about half the grafts that Dr. Epstein did, but his price was about the same. This time, as opposed to my M.H.R. experience, I feel very satisfied and pleased that I got more than my moneys worth! I am anxsiously waiting my healing process now to see just how it turns out! Based on my experience with Dr. Epstein so far, I would highly recommend him and his office and staff to anyone considering a quality yet affordable Hair Transplant! Chris H.

please research fully and more updated posts before choosing the doctor!

  10. A very good friend of mine had his HT with Epstein two years ago. He is very pleased with his result.

I believe he had 2,500 grafts in the hairline and frontal third. He's 30 years old with medium thickness dark hair... perfect characteristics if you ask me. He was a NW3A/4A with significant recession in the temples. He's a NW2 now.

I've seen his result in person several times and they are very good- completely undetectable. Unfortunately, he won't make an account on HTN.

He is going back for a scond pass to add more density this fall with Dr. Epstein again.

I haven't see a lot of mention of Dr. Epstein on HTN either, but that doesn't really mean anything.

Either way, do your research, of course. Good Luck.

There HAS been a lot of mention on Dr Epstein here, and most of it NOT good, do a search and find out

  11. Hi all,

I am planning to do a HT with Dr. Jeffrey Epstein. I read good things about him in the forum, but lately(from the post around 2009) I see many complains against him. Do any of you have any recent experience with him? He mentioned around 2800-3000 grafts for me.

Can you please help me with this?

do your research first...its an obvious answer

  12. I had a strip procedure in 2009, I still have a dull pain when I brush my scalp in that area....in my crown, right above where the start of the incision was made on the side of my head above my left ear, basically where my natural spiral is.....is this from stitching up my scalp to tight? that area has also thinned more than the other areas. No grafts were placed in that area, i only had grafts placed in my frontal hairline which made most of my hair in front fall out...which i documented in my previous posts

can someone tell me about this pain?

    thx

  13. Beware of believing any reviews on this site that are under a doctor's page. I posted a negative review about my doctor and it does not show up under his profile. It shows up under the reviews on a totally different page under the general procedure, but it looks like the doctors have a deal worked out that they can only display positive reviews on their profile...never ceases to amaze me how shady people are.

  14.

Then you go on to mention Bernstien, Rassman, Cooley, Limmer & Harris as if they represent the cream of the crop of today's HT docs. IMO those 5 are not even on the map (not even close!), so it seems your research has not been very thorough in this regard.

I mentioned these doctors because they have supported me, given me more knowledge, and some offered to help me in any way possible without any strings attached or any financial benefit to them. These are all very well known doctors and them offering to take the time to do that and say that speaks VERY highly of their morals, caring of people in general, and ethics...because in the end...even the highest skilled doctor can ruin you....it takes an ethical doctor to tell you the truth about what is best for you.

  15. UsedandAbused,

I've read through this entire topic and have to say that I agree with the vast majority of your posts. Hair transplants are definitely not for everyone. I also believe that prospective patients should be made aware of all the risks before undergoing surgery. Physicians should definitely assist with the education process however, I also feel that patients need to be accountable for their own research and choices. Knowing and understanding all the benefits, limitations and potential risks of hair transplant surgery ahead of time can help patients make an informed decision as to whether or not surgery is right for them.

Unfortunately, the hair restoration field is still riddled with physicians who use outdated techniques and are more interested in filling their pockets with money than filling your balding areas with hair. However, there are equally as many physicians, like those recommended by this community that I'd consider the "good guys". These physicians care about their patients, use state of the art techniques and do the best they can to help their patients meet their hair restoration goals.

Moreover, hair transplant surgery is not without risks and even the best physicians have cases of poor results. But a quality physician will stand behind his/her patient in the event these risks occur and help them achieve their goals.

I can't speak specifically or intelligently about the physician who did your procedure because you didn't mention him. However, by claiming that you've had a bad experience by a surgeon recommended by this community without sharing the details of your surgery, pictures and the name of the physician is unfair to this community.

As Dave said above, we take all recommendations seriously and if you've been treated unjustly and unfairly by a physician recommended on this site, I'd like to know about it. If after reviewing your case and discussing it with your physician I happen to agree with you, we will consult with other leading experts and potentially remove this physician's recommendation status.

If you'd rather not discuss the details publicly, this is your right. However, I ask that you send me a private message with the details of your case, before and after photos and the name of the physician. In turn, I will discuss your case with your physician to get his/her side of the story. Then we can move on from there.

I also strongly encourage you to discuss your concerns with your physician to see if you two can come to a fair and reasonable solution that will help you get the head of hair you deserve. If not, I encourage you to consult with other leading hair restoration physicians you trust, like the ones you mentioned and see what they propose to do to help you.

    Best wishes,

    Bill

I mis-spoke and did not mean for it to sound like that, and in turn, I corrected my post. I feel like THIS particular site has VERY stringent criteria and do a great job it addressing issues promptly for obvious reasons

Look guys, I am not trying to argue with anyone or say this is more common than not.....I only had 1 procedure and 1 experience and it was a very very bad one. I am not trying to say that my horrible experience happens all the time.....my whole point to this is that is CAN happen and it DOES happen. As for the generalizations, it was necessary to word it like I did to avoid any direct accusations. As stated by someone else....these procedures have limitations, and a good doctor should tell you straight up that there is no way that your current natural situation can be improved when it is appropriate.
