I have undergone first HT with Dr Paul Shapiro two years ago

Please find the details of the First procedure

I am considering the second HT ; but I have to return to India and I need suggestions as to

1)which doctor to consider in INDIA

2) Is it ok that the 2 HT is done by a another Doctor

3) it is more preferable to get it done by the Paul shapiro

Any help is greatly appreciated .

I am 32 years old. Dr.Pathuri Madhu is the best HT surgeon in South India,i zeroed in on him through this site, since i am Indian i decided to do it from him and also i saw number of his patients who had got good results. The procedure was FUT(strip). My area to be covered is big so he has spread the grafts but still he said that i will get a decent coverage.

After 10 days of my procedure i am prescribed to use Finpecia 1mg(tab) and Tugain Foam 5% to retain my native hair. I guess i might have a little of my native hair growing inbetween the transplanted hair which could help in getting a denser coverage and the prescribed medicines will help the native hair grow healthy if at all it grows.

since you have started using Finpecia ; it is going to retain the hairs and also grow new hair ; if your hair is coarse and wavy then it will actually appear to be denser .

I think the grafts used on the area seems to be right ; but the thing is you need to ask your doctor regards the grafts break down ,since you had 2000 grafts ; each graft might have 1 hair ,2 or 3 or 4 hairs .usually they take the 1 hair grafts to the hair line .

i have seen some HT surgeons do the dense packing about 2000 grafts just for the hair line .

The HT surgeon madhu Pathuri from hyderbad is the only one recommended on this forum ;

Hi aaron,

yes It is interesting halo pattern :confused: ; but the inference is since there is already some native hairs and So the recommendation is to use meds ( Propecia and Rogaine ) and try to stop the further loss and go for a second procedure for the crown and the halo region.

usually doctors do not go beyond the safe zone ; so please specify the strip length and width and the number of grafts ; if not please ask the clinic to provide .

also I had my HT last week with SMG paul shapiro for 2642 grafts with 70 hairs sq cm and strip is 1.6 ( width ) X 22.5 ( lengh ) = 36 Cm2

I presume you have had needed more grafts in one session so the doc would have .

Dry the donor area (stitches) in the back of the head with a clean towel.

• Drip Vitamin E oil ONLY on the recipient area; do not use your fingers. Make sure all the grafts are covered with Vitamin E oil
  
• Apply Polysporin ointment on donor area (scar) 2 times a day for 2 weeks. After the stitches are removed keep applying Polysporin on the scar for another 4 or 5 days.
  
• Repeat all steps one more time in the evening.

Congrats on your HT ; Even I had my HT last thursday with SMG and my donar area was same as yours so I had ended up with 2642 grafts with the strip measurement of 1.6 cm X 22.5 cm = 36 cm2

Since you have a large area to be covered and with 2400 grafts ; Dr madhu has taken the correct approach ; even if you had been to any other Docs ; they would have the same recommendation

But the brighter part is your hair is coarse and wavy which gives fuller .Even I am an asian Indian with the same hair characteristics .

As always Dr Paul was very informative and we discussed to go around 3000 grafts also my case is a classical progrssive male pattern baldness ; and added that my donor density is not realy great. I am optimistic that my HT would turn out well .

Hello All,

I have been considering to get a HT (Strip) lately ; so had few online consultations with coalition doctors. I wanted to know which approach is better and best suited to my situation .

The Approach suggested are :

1) To get 2500 to 4000 grafts on the frontal and a separate procedure for the crown around 2000 grafts .

2) To get a total of around 4000 grafts ( one session ) which comprises of 1500 to 1800 to restore hairline and the front area and 2000 grafts in the crown region .

Explanation for the above 2nd approach

o The Front

§ The Immediate Front will have 40 Grafts per Sq cm followed by 30 Grafts per sq cm

o The Crown :

§ Since my loss is more on the posterior of the crown ;hence the Outer surface of the crown will 30 grafts per Sq cm followed by 20 grafts per Sq cm and 10 Grafts per Sq cm.

Thanks for your suggestions and regards the Hairline is just to indicate that I had hair initially but would most likely comfortable with the photos of year 2003 or 2005 shown below .

Photos of my Hair Loss Progression.

From My pictures it is pretty evident that most of my hair loss increased since 2007 to 2010 and may be in few years I would reach Norwood 5 or 6 .

And I am really fortunate that I came across this site ;which actually stopped from going to one of bosley's or hair club.

I just need to have the online consultation with these great physicians and decide; From browsing the various patients on this site I feel that I may be a candidate for 4000 to 5000 grafts .

My expectations are

Donor Density: 80-100/Fu/cm2 and a natural hair line which resembles my 2003/2005 photos

I need your advice regards which physician would is the best for One session ( 4000- 5000 Grafts ) and Natural hairline .Since most of the this forum patients have done HT's with these physicians .

Thanks lorenzo for your suggestion ; I was taking rogaine in the crown area but I had scalp itching ;so stopped for time . I have been loosing hairs a lot in the past few years .Please find my picture in year 2005 ,I have a strong hereditary of male pattern baldness .So I dont know when to go for the HT.
