  1. The characteristics of BH can change when its moved to the scalp...I have seen it all too often.

Keep in mind you are seeing the best examples of BH which are not representative of the overall patient results of those who have BH procedures.

Not saying that you are going to have poor BH results but why risk it when scalp donor is so much more promising and available?

oh the characteristics change...then that is a concern and the risks not worth it then.

Can you provide some pictures of where a patient did not get a satisfying BHT result.

    Thanks for the info

  2. Thanks for the input guys.

I can understand wanting to preserve scalp donor, but IMO body hair is best left as a supply to use in cases where scalp donor has run out.

Suitability of body hair varies from person to person. My body hair is vastly different to my scalp hair in colour, thickness and texture, but I realise that this isn't always the case.

I have dark hair all over my body and scalp, face.

My chest hair greatly matches (thickness, texture, and colour) my facial hair and scalp hair. Hair on arms and legs are definitely more on the curly end.

I guess the main cases of where BHT was used on temples is Doctor Umar's patients. I think the results turned out pretty good.

  3. Every doctor has their own unique set of post-op care instructions, so the information you'll get will vary quite a bit. We provide our patients with a hat to wear home the day of surgery and give them a mild shampoo and a double sided sponge to be used to gently clean their scalp twice a day for the first five days. We have them come in the day after the procedure for an in-house hair wash and teach them how to do it themselves moving forward. They also receive a list of all the "dos and don'ts" to make sure that they properly take care of their scalp the months following the HT.

I think a good set of post procedure care makes a difference on how well the grafts get hold of blood supply.

  4. To all doctors and patients who've had FUE and FUT, please post your after surgery care instructions?

    1. did you had to wear head band straight after surgery?

    2. did you had to apply saline solutions for 1-2 weeks after surgery to keep grafts moist?

    3. did you apply vitamin E oil to grafts?

    4. did you gently pat your grafts to wash it or were told not to touch it at all for few weeks?

    Please answer these guys.

    Thanks

  5. Hi guys,

what do you guys think about using body hair to transplant into temples? I just want to bring my temples forward a bit and better define it. I do not want to use scalp donor as i want to preserve it for now.

I got great facial hair and body hairs as well. I think 600 grafts (300 on each temple) would be suffficient. I understand that body hairs do not grow as long as scalp hair. I dont think length is required. Because naturally you'd see people with baby hairs along temples anyway. Plus Doctor Umar used body hair to do this patient. Check out his temples.

Finding a recommended BHT clinic that is well priced wont be hard. Tejinder Bhatti in india does it. Will cost me around $2100 AUD which is not much. Plus best part is preserving my scalp donor.

I think it will be low risk procedure for me.

Just wanted to get some more opinions from you guys. Has anyone done BHT to further add to their already transplanted areas?

    Thanks

  6. Here is a link to open technique.

I'm not sure what you mean by open technique. The machine you're talking about is not used for the incision; it is a vibrating machine that is run along the area to 'confuse' the nerves during the removal of the strip, helping to reduce any discomfort that might be felt.

But while the machine was run along the donor area, sometimes I felt skin being cut and was given injection. Was the machine cutting the strip or was it done by hand?

  7. My first HT with Dr Path, he does open technique to harvest donors. Less graft transection this way because the grafts are watched while the skin is cut. And my scar healed up very good, i could not feel the scar nor feel any bald line where the incision was.

For my second HT it was with Rahal and I remember a machine was used to slide across the donor area that cut the skin. Meaning there must have been grafts that were transected and not used in the transplantation. And my scar is lumpy and has a bald line. Maybe due to tension. Dont know.

But question, why didn't rahal use open technique?

  8. I am from Australia and looking for a good FUE doctor. I've had strip before and do not want to go this route unless necessary.

I just want to get maybe 1000 grafts or less just to better define the hairline.

FUE Hair Transplant cost in Bangkok, Thailand | Hair Transplantation Cost Bangkok Thailand, Absolute Hair Clinic

This doctor from thailand seems good. He has FUE gallery as well.

Doctor pathomvanich does FUE as well now. But he is of age now so i dont know the FUE results.

Any other good FUE doctors that aren't too far away from Australia. US and Europe are too far.

    Thanks

  9. I've always had a genetically high hair line. I always wanted to lower my hairline to something that is ascetically pleasing for my face. I've been to one doctor and they said not to go that low so I will be saving my donor hair for later.

So I thought to get hairline lowering done. In this procedure the hair line cut at the front and from the sides into the hairline. Scalp is lifted and then pulled forward. I'd get lower hairline plus my donor areas will stay in tact. Its expensive procedure but money isn't the issue.

    Some results

Forehead Reduction Surgery Hairline Lowering Surgery Before and After Photos

They do this surgery on men and women both. For men you have to either have no hairloss history, or you have already had hair transplant so your frontal hairline is fixed.

Problem is when I emailed doctors from USA and Australia, they told me since I've had strip taken out at donor area from ear to ear, means my blood supply has been disrupted. And if they do the hairline lowering (which has incision lines from the frontal hairline all the way to the back of the head), that it will further disrupt the blood supply. So they will not do the surgery.

So I guess blood supply is not disrupted majorly with the FUE procedure yes? If i did FUE, i could have done hairline lowering.....

    Is this correct?

    Thanks guys

  10. akuma,

I also took a peek at your pics from the link you provided. It appears that you had your frontal hairline lowered by 1 to 1 1/2 cm?

You have a great visual volume of exisiting hair in the frontal zone however with the wide contrast of dark hair on a fairer complexion, there is much more light reflecting in the commencement of your hairline. Dr. Charles added his insight and wisdom in this area thank you. You may want to add single hair FUs in that region but be careful to not over compact that area or it will not look natural. Proper angulation of the recipient sites created for those single hair grafts are critical. Are you familiar with the "stick and place" method in that area of the hairline?

The commencement of any hairline should be done with singles as most natural hairlines occur. There needs to be a slightly lower FU count with some slight visual space them because again, that's how natural hairlines commence. Feel free to ask Dr. Charles about this. I encourage you to look at mature hairlines on others who do not have hairloss and you will see what I am referring to. Look especially at men with wider color contrasts as yours.

As far as the yield from your prior FUHT procedure, you are getting closer to the 1 1/2 year mark post-op so you should not be seeing any more new growth from your last procedure. I did take note that you have above average hair caliber which is outstanding for achieving visual coverage.

In addition, with FUE, the surgeon can still extract single bearing FUs in the donor area for the hairline. It's when the surgeon is re-building a new hairline or lowering the hairline (like in your case) that they may need to dissect some multiple hair bearing FUs into singles so that they have enough.

This is true with strip as well. The strip specimen may not provide enough natural occurring single FUs so the team may have to dissect some of the multiple hair FUs to have enough singles for the new hairline. Highly experienced techs who are competent know how to microscopically dissect and trim the grafts into singles without transecting them. Transection can and does happen depending again on the staff and the equipment employed. Believe it or not, some clinics still dissect the strip without using scopes.

Other than that, IMHO your frontal zone looks fine and best wishes to you my friend.

Yes i only lowered 0.5 cm to 1 cm.

What is the "stick and place" hairline thing?

Someone in this forum mentioned that the "follicle" stripping of the hairs for the hairline could be what caused the problem. I thought the whole point of HT was to leave the follicular units the way they are? Stripping double hairs into singles, wouldn't that guarantee bad growth?

  11. Hi Akuna,

Thanks for the link. I was able to see your pics and follow your progress for the most part today.

The thing that struck me is that the frontal scalp area that was addressed seems greater than 15cm2. I think if you add more grafts within and behind the hairline, you'll achieve the density you're hoping for. Do you have a date set for your next procedure?

I haven't set a date for the procedure yet. I dont know what to do at the moment.

  12. Dr Rahal is one of the best out there. The short answer is that he is aggressive in graft out (density) and he gets awesome yield.

Dr Konior has some killer hairlines and I have seen some really nice h and w hairlines on appropriate patients. I think that he is currently the guy willing to pack the tightest and dense packing takes skill . Some think it is good and some don't. I think it really depends on the patients age, history, and education.

whats a H hairline? i cant find a picture in google about it.

  13. thanks for the responses guys.

    Hi Akuma,

I don't know your story and did not notice any pics to view but if I understand your original question you are asking how much more can be added on top of 50/cm2?

You mention that you currently have 50/cm2 but are you basing this on your ht physician telling you or were you able to get your density measured with a hair counting device? I agree with Dr. Charles that generally 50 per cm2 would give good density so if you feel you need more, your density may not be at 50/cm2. However, if you indeed have 50/cm2 and you need a little refinement to achieve a denser look, another 10 to 15gr per cm2 could be added in the hairline without compromising the blood supply. It's less risky to add to the density in another procedure rather than try to dense pack too much in one procedure. This is when you risk the blood supply.

There are many ways in which the grafts can be damaged during a ht procedure. The ht team definately has to take proper care when harvesting the donor, slivering, cutting and planting to maximize yield.

    Hi Janna,

    Here is my whole journey.

    http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/165098-doctor-damkerng-pathomvanich-transplanted-scalp-area-growing-slower-than-temples-6.html

I was told my doctor that I have 'nearly' 50U per cm2. But I doubt it is 50. Please look at my case on that link above and provide feedback.

  14. Hi guys,

Ive been looking through Dr Rahal results and he seems to have done very dense hairlines. I read somewhere that he does the usual 59 grafts per cm2 (dense) at hairline, 55 behind that, and then 50 behind that. I do think this is a good plan as you get good strong hairline, and also coverage with more spread out grafts behind the hairline.

Instead of the opposite, where you get weak hairline but denser grafts behind the hairline.

    Here are some examples

Hair restoration surgery before and after photographs with 3249 grafts

Hair transplant surgery before and after photos from 2688 grafts to the hairline

12 months postoperative hair restoration results from 3489 grafts.

Hair transplant surgery before and after photos from 2989 grafts to the temporal regions

Before and after hair restoration surgical procedure photo results with 3693 grafts

    The hairlines are great.

Is he the only one that densely packs the hairline and then lesser densitys behind?

It really gives a good result. Most other results from other doctors that I seen have less-dense hairlines.

Any input on this would be great.

    Thanks

  15. Here are the pics

Today has been 1 year 4 months and 19 days.

The result has improved but not much.

The scalp area is struggling to grow. I took close up pictures and you can see from the side shots that there are STILL short wispy hairs growing out. These aren't new hairs i believe. The thing is, the hairs grow out, and then fall out, and then start to grow again. Hence why I always see 1-2 cm short wispy hairs all the time. I know this because the hairs that i kept an eye on, have fallen out and started to grow again!!!

Plus the scalp transplanted hair is growing at slower rate. I tested this by cutting a 1cm on both my hairline AND temple. The temple one grew faster.

I felt the temple hairs with my hands and it feels smooth. But when i felt the scalp hairs, they felt very ridged. It felt like it has ridges and the hair is wiggly.

I think these are signs that it could be a blood flow issue. The hairs are struggling to grow. Could be due to graft popping. The follicles maybe aren't deep enough for blood nourishment?

    comments guys?
