I am new to this website having joined in January 2011. I hate surgeries because you let go of control of your life and place it in the hands of someone els.... I guess I look at this the same and wonder will I be better off going through this kind of treatment or should I just forget it. Thats why Im here ... to give myself time to study the options and see whats right for me.

Rabbit,

Thank you for sharing these thoughts with the community. I do encourage you to do as much research as possible before committing to a procedure, and please don't hesitate to ask any necessary questions or contact me with concerns via private message. Good luck!

Is it better to spend the time doing the research on my own as I am starting to do or is it better to learn "as you go" when talking to different facilities. I have started by calling a few hair restoration groups but am not able to speak to the doctor directly. Is this common?

Rabbit,

I think both sound like valuable research experiences, but I would definitely have done some research by the time you meet with a clinic or physician for any purpose. Additionally, not being able to speak to the doctor directly over the phone is pretty common for all medical practices. In a hair restoration practice, for example, the physician is likely in surgery or consulting face-to-face with patients and simply can't be in two places at once. In certain instances, there will be some representative that can talk to you over the phone, and I'm sure that if you scheduled a consultation you'd have the physician's undivided attention during your appointment. Good luck!

I appreciate your insight. There are doctors that choose to sit and answer questions directly. But you are right, my basic foundation for what I want needs to be researched. This is definately a big business and warrants looking into the doctors mostly and their reputations as well as their licensing and "word of mouth" with other patients.

Since I don't like medical procedures, you will be hearing my progress and what doctors I choose to research and eventually hire to help me with my hair.....any advice or news will be sincerely appreciated. I still consider myself novice. Since I live in los angeles, I know there are alot of doctors to choose from. I think I'm going to zero in on 10 and go from there..starting with some doctors my friends have consulted with.
