The start of my journey with before Pics.

So this is where I am starting at a Norwood 5/5a at 59 yrs old. I am a very active individual and enjoy life and meeting new people. I work out and run full court basketball with  the 20 something year olds so I am not the typical old guy even thought they do call me "Old School"  I seemingly can grow hair everywhere but on top of my head as you can tell the ears really grow hair nicely! I have had my hair receding or as I like to call it in full retreat for close to 40 years now. At one time in my 20's I even had hair extensions in an attempt to have some hair. Well here I am at 59 and on this journey that I am not sure where it will end or what the results will be. Like many of you that have been here before I want to be of value to others that are contemplating this type of HT surgery. I am going to provide a lot of Pics for you to see both the extent of my hair loss from every angle possible and also what is happening as I navigate the maze that is HT. (If you notice I have a cut on the bridge of my nose where I ran into an open Tuna door on a boating a few of the pics) One thing I think would be useful here would be an area for Norwood 1 Norwood 2 ect. That would enable someone to go in and look directly at all of those cases most like theirs and evaluate both where they are and what is possible.

I started looking at hair transplants many years back but saw the cost in the USA and didn't think that was a viable option at the time. Fast forward to 3 months ago and I started looking again and decided that Turkey could be an option and FUE was my HT choice. I looked at several clinics and had tentatively decided on one to get a consult. I was about to send in my pics and decided I needed more information as I had seen a lot of people that had botched surgeries and I did not want to be one of those cases. I found the Hair Restoration Network and began looking at both the before pics and results from Different Dr's. After seeing one peticular outcome from Dr.Gokhan Gur and checking his credentials I decided to send in my photos and get a consultation. I also checked for this sites recommended Dr's and he was there( very important for me) I was contacted by someone at a different number than I had seen for his office and became suspicious as I was not sure this was actually someone connected to him. I asked one of the members here who referred me directly to Fue Capilar. I sent them a message  and a short time later received a message from the first contact that Fue Capilar had requested they handle this directly so I assumed the first was connected to them. This is also something that is scary as you want to verify that you are really talking to people that represent the Dr and not someone scamming you or worse. I received my consultation through What's App and decided I wanted to do this. They sent me a link to pay my 500 euro deposit which I did (took one week after consult to think and sleep on it) and received a receipt confirming payment and further instructions. I will fly to Turkey in October 2023 and have a HT consisting of 3000-3500 grafts ( this may change at consult depending on donor area...hopeful we can do more) I am excited and terrified at the same time. This is a new time for me and I have told some of my friends and family what I plan to do. I am going to share every step of this journey with this network and am also going to a video log of everything from start to finish. I hope you all come along with me....looks like I have a new HT family here!

Sorry, you are a Norwood 7. Not NW5. The lateral humps are completely gone and the donor has dipped in NW7 fashion.

Clearly you don’t have enough donor for full coverage. Dr Gur plan is good to only do 3k grafts for the front. For the crown you will need body hairs.

Your hairline needs to be super conservative unless you have a lot of beard hair.

I can see why you believe you're 5a, in that the bridge of hair is still intact in the midscalp.

Unfortunately it seems like your hair loss is progressing towards NW7 since there is visible thinning in those areas.

Are you currently on medication? There's a reasonable chance you'd be able to significantly slow down your loss, and perhaps even recover some of your hair prior to surgical intervention.

That was Dr Gur that evaluated it as NW 5/5A

I am only 5 weeks out so I worry about starting on something that may cause a problem with the surgery. I would be open to body hair or beard hairs I have plenty to fill areas not highly visible to provide density or illusion of density (IOD). I am not sure if Dr Gur does this?

Thank you for your input. I have to say that my heart sunk a bit hearing I might be a NW7

I'm not sure if he uses body hair or not.

On terms of taking medication, something like finesteride would help to reduce permanent shock loss where weak hairs in the recipient area don't recover from the trauma of surgery.

Similarly, it will work toward stabilising your hair situation.

Usually you'd establish whether medication is something you'd be prepared to take and able to tolerate since it could influence the strategy taken for your surgery.

This is a long game so gathering as much information before your first move is a good approach.
