Can Shampoo cause chemical Burn to hair follicles?

Hello,

4 days ago, I used a salicylic acid shampoo on my scalp and face. It resulted in burning sensation of skin which lasted at least two days. Think skin on my forehead feels rough textured after the incident. Though, it has improved since then.

 

I also have somewhat increased shedding since the incident. The burning sensation was bad enough to have caused me significant trouble while sleeping for the next two days but it's much better now.

 

My question is, was it just a bad reaction to the shampoo or have I chemically burned my scalp and possibly permanently damaged my hair just as some people experience while chemically relaxing their hair?
