  1. Definitely talk to a doctor, a good HT doctor. I had my first one in my early 30s. I would think 24 is way too young IMO. Late 20s would be better and I say this because you dont know how far your hair loss is gonna go and how its gonna go. I lost mine by my two older brothers have lost nothing. Every family and person is different. If losing your hair is bothering you a lot try some derm match cover up. I use it in dry form everyday. Its truly remarkable how it conceals the thinness.

  2. Interesting post Clint. My hair has been thinning or shedding (not sure) for the past 6 months or so. I tried a t booster for 3 weeks but stopped because it started to give me anxiety at night (6 months ago). Have been on creatine for 3 months. Not sure if propecia is loosing its effectiveness with me or it was the supps or not. What I do know is I can now see into my hairline and see those nasty 3 and 4 hair grafts I got done in the 90's. My hair thickness has not changed IMO since my last HT at Shapiro in 03 until now. I have been very satisfied until recently. It this continues and my hairline gets more and more pluggy I will prolly have to get some repair work done if thats even an option. I have 0 donor hair left unfortinatly.

  3. Its been a while since I have visited this site but came back and found this post which is why I came back.

Have been on propecia for almost 6 years. My gf make the comment that my hair looked thinner about 6 months ago but I did not believe her. Well now I can see into my hairline and see the larger grafts I had done in the early 90's. It really sucks to see these giant 3 and 4 hair sized "plugs"!!! Dr. Shapiros clinic had given me some Dermatch which I have now starting using and it really does work. I dont like the idea of having to put on everyday but the "pluggy" look of my old school grafts arent very comforting.

I wonder if the propecia has lost its effectiveness on me? I would get another HT but after 5 at a hair mill and a 6th at Shapiro I have no donor hair left.

  4. 4 HT's ....thats for sissys!!!! LOL I have had 6 and would gladly get 6 more if it meant I could have brad pitt hair!!!!! I just dont have any donor left.....I gotta bald back of the head!!!!!@#$%^ People dont believe me until I pull up the pony tail and show em the empty void (ie scar lines with small layers of hair between) and then they are believers!! yeah I am freak but a happy one!! LOL

If I remember correctly you had your HT done about the same time as me back in Jan with doc Rose...Mine grew in great...it started growing 7 to 8 weeks postop....now 8 months later it really looks the same but longer as it did 4 months ago...I now look in the mirror and cannot see into my scalp as I could before....I have not been to this site all summer....havent really thought about my HT much since it grew in ...thats what is all about isnt it?! I am flying back to MN on Thursday for another reason but I plan to stop by Shapiros for a quick hello...they were all so nice there....dont think I'll ask out whats her name again!!! I really cant remember her name, the secretary girl....man she was hot!! Cori, thats what it was..

hope all is well...aloha from Maui ... big it up

  6. rose did my work but shapiro was in the room both at the beginning consultation ( I didnt have diddly for donor left) and several times during surgery. doc rose was extremly cool and I cannot explain that enough....I will have him do any and all future work on me,,,they day they can get donor hair out of my chest or where/whatever I will have him do the work. Those guys are it in my eyes....extremly fair and best of all, full of integrity. I posted my story back in Jan in case ya want a full report. going there will be your best decision.

    aloha

  7. Dude have you been using the rogaine on the grafts? 6 months is a long time. I have had 6 HT's and my latest I used the rogaine and started growing just 9 weeks post op. I am now 4.5 months post op and am very satified with only 635 grafts I had done this time.

I would be on your doc's case big time. Dont ever go back there again, there are much better docs out there with some integrity.

Demand to talk to your doc and dont let up till you get a refund or something.

  8. We each have our own personal views on this subject but this is mine. Before I got all my HT's I was devastated that I was losing my hair. I hated it when someone would comment on it. Now after 6 HT's I have hair but by no means am I Elvis. Unfortinatly I had most of them in the 90's so I have a lot of minigrafts which our about as natural as a flower growing out of my head. I live in Hawaii and I surf and swim a lot. The day I said f-it about what people might think if they see my plugs was a big sense of freedom. The day you can go and get a haircut without thinking about what they might think will be a great day for you. I say let go of the insecurity and stand proud. I can hardly imagine how nice it would be to have had all fu's done instead of 2000+ minigrafts. But I am still happy to have what I do and I volunteer the info to people all the time and 99% of the time they are shocked. Without all the work I had done I look like John Luc Picard IE norwood 7 !!!

  9. I think you will find everybody is different in this area. Some people swell up, others dont. My most recent HT, I was back to work after 3 days with a hat. All my current work was done in the front. After the scabs fell off 5 to 7 days the hat was gone. I hated the hat. I also had some sutures in my hairline cause they took out some big old grafts from the 90's. 20 of them. I also had 20 or so taken out back in the crown area and the hat really irratated them. If your not having any sutures in your hairline, which it sounds like your not, then its no biggie.

If you plan for a week off, you'll be safe and feel a lot better. I am now almost 10 weeks post op and have had sprouts coming up these past two weeks. Usually it takes at least 12 weeks to start growing, so I am stoked!! I did apply the minoxodil this time around, maybe it helped.

    good luck

  10. Thanks for the reply. I would never order that crap, I just was really curious cause they do spend a boat load of money on advertising. I am a firm believer that if you want more hair, its propecia, minox (which I do get from costco) or a HT. All the other stuff is just snake oil BS!! Nioxin, there is another scam. Just buy the thickening shampoo made by suave or any other drug store brand for few bucks instead of huge dollars.

I am in marketing and I am still amazed that people believe all this crap. Yeah I got a pill that burns fat while you sleep and grows hair!!! Unreal just call 1-800 I AM DUMB

  11. I had doc Rose in January. I was a unique case, hardly any donor hair via too many HT's in the 90's. He managed to take out 40 large minigrafts, trim and re-insert, take out a huge scar, harvest some donor hair via my sides and place all of it right up front to add density to my frontal tuft area. I wanted them to do everything they could, but they really felt that for me doing just a little at a time because my donor is so sparce would be best for me. I know they were right. They could have said sure lets go for 2000 and just butcher me just to get my $$. Not those guys. (Shapiro was advising with Rose before and during my procedure) To top it off they charged me half the current rate cause I had flown all the way from Maui hoping for some serious FU loving! And then doc Rose invited me out to dinner...

I am not saying anything is wrong with Berstein, I just know Rose is first rate. I will be going back to him for the little touch ups ( its all I can do now) in the future.

good luck and choose well my freind, it will last a lifetime!!

  12. I too had a mini micro hairline done in the mid 90's.....your new work really looks awesome. I had 631 fu's done in Jan in the frontal tuft area to add density and to soften up the "old school work". I can only dream that mine will look as good as yours...was donor hair an issue?? I have almost none left.

    congrats, it looks really good!!

  13. Just keep on the propecia and the minoxodil...you are way to young to get a HT..you should wait until your hairloss is in full force...it would suck to get it done then in the future your sides drop and all you got is the one spot your doc filled in...Your doing the correct thing now for your age. Take it from me 38 and 6 HT's...I only wish there was propecia 15 years ago.;;

  14. Go to shapiromedical.com they have some nice pictures of women they have worked on. Dont let locality determine if and where you get a HT done. Do you research and find the best surgeon available in your eyes. Consider docs that do FU's only....no micro or mini BS grafts...you will thank all of us on that one later...

    good luck
